CHAPTER 3

CAROL

After arriving at my small apartment, which was more like an art studio, I changed into something more comfortable. It didn’t take long before Susan arrived.

“Mmm! These are delicious.”

“Yeah, you’re right. I needed something sweet to sweeten my day. By the way, I ran into your father today.”

Susan stopped chewing; her perfectly plucked eyebrows rose in surprise.

“Long story. It was pure chance…” I waved my hand to brush it off. “He asked me to tell you to call him.”

She watched me for a moment longer before continuing to eat her chocolate donut.

“I swear I’m going to end up gaining weight if I keep this up.” I laughed. The girl had an incredible body and never gained a pound.

“Sure!”

Susan was beautiful: a natural blonde with a killer body and beautiful blue eyes, just like her mother’s. Or so I had seen in the photographs she had shown me, though she looked more like her father.

“So, what happened?” Susan watched me from the other end of the sofa as she popped another donut into her mouth.

I told her everything that had happened with that idiot of an exboss.

“Wow, babe, that sucks.”

“Yeah. Don’t even tell me.” I got up from the sofa and went to the kitchen for more wine. “Do you want some more?”

“No, I have dinner tonight with Dad and Henry,” she shouted over her shoulder.

“Wow, and what’s the occasion?” I said, returning to my spot. Susan shifted somewhat nervously.

“Well… Henry asked me to move in with him, so I said yes.”

My wine stayed suspended in mid-air on the way to my mouth.

“I don’t think your father is going to like that idea.”

“Dad has to get over it. I’m not a child, Carol. I’m twenty-two years old and I can fend for myself. He can’t expect me to live with him my whole life. I know he needs his space too, even if he doesn’t want to admit it.”

“Are you sure about this? I mean, you’ve only been dating for a year and a half.”

“Yes, very sure.”

“Okay. In that case, I wish you the best, hope you guys enjoy it.” Something in my voice must have given me away because Susan frowned.

“What’s wrong, babe?” She moved closer and took my hand in hers.

“Nothing. Don’t mind me.”

“Oh, no. You’re not pulling that on me. I know you too well and I know something is up.”

I rolled my eyes. Nothing escaped her.

“I don’t have a job. I’m about to be evicted from the apartment, I have nowhere to live…” The reality of it hit me so hard that my breath hitched. “But don’t worry, don’t let my problems overshadow or ruin your happiness. I’ll find a solution.”

“Look, how am I not going to worry? You’re my best friend; obviously, I’m going to worry about you.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too, babe.” We hugged.

“I hate having to call my parents and ask them for help.”

Susan’s back tensed. She slowly let go of me, a serious expression on her face.

“You’re not thinking what I think you’re thinking.”

I tilted my head and shrugged. There was no need to mention it; she knew.

“No, you can’t do this to me.” She stood up and paced back and forth, agitated. “Your parents moved to Spain three years ago. How can you even think about something like that when you fought so hard to stay here?”

“Don’t you think I know that? I, more than anyone, know everything I had to do to be able to stay. Having to prove to my father that I could be on my own was hard. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget Corinne’s look of sadness either.”

Emotions overwhelmed me; tears began to roll down my cheeks.

“I don’t see what else I can do. I have no money, no job, and as if that weren’t enough, I have to vacate this place in a week.”

“When were you planning on telling me all this?”

“I don’t want to be bothering you with my business. Besides, I haven’t seen much of you lately. You have your own life, Susan. You’re even planning on living with Henry, and that’s great, you know? It’s wonderful. But I have to figure out how to put my life back together and find some stability.”

She stopped pacing and seemed to think about everything I had said.

“You are important in my life; you’ve always supported me unconditionally. So, if you need me, I will absolutely be there for you. We’re going to fix this.”

  • SWEET TEMPTATION   Chapter 13: Carol

CHAPTER 13CAROLSaturday went by incredibly fast between Susan’s move—which, by the way, caught Will by surprise; the man left in a fury, claiming he had things to do in Brighton, and we hadn’t seen him since—and finishing unpacking my own belongings to settle into the guest room.Afterward, I tidied up the living room, which was cluttered with boxes everywhere; I stacked them inside one another and stuffed them into black trash bags. I hauled them out of the apartment to the utility room... it took three trips to get it all out. By the time I finished, I was exhausted and drenched in sweat. I caught a whiff of my t-shirt."I need a shower, urgently," I said out loud to myself. The small bathroom in my room didn't have a tub, and I remembered Susan mentioning there was one in the house. I went to the main bathroom across the hall, only to discover that it didn't have one either. It wasn't the first time I’d been in there, but I’d held onto the hope of finding one. When I opened

  • SWEET TEMPTATION   Chapter 12: Carol

CHAPTER 12CAROLThe fire inside me was spreading rapidly, scorching everything in its path. My body responded to him automatically, as if we were magnets drawn together by an invisible force field. I was so turned on I could feel the moisture between my legs soaking my panties. The friction of his member against me had me losing my mind; all I could feel was the iron grip of his hands on my waist. My pelvis throbbed again. Relax, inhale, exhale... I repeated it over and over like a mantra. My reaction to him was stupid, but... dammit, I never actually imagined this could happen, and hell, it was happening.I pulled Will by his hair, dragging him closer. I bit his lower bottom lip and tugged it between mine, applying a bit of pressure; I know it hurt because I saw it in his eyes, in the way his brow furrowed, but he didn't say a word. For the first time, our tongues enjoyed the journey they were taking. I could feel all his heat; it was delicious. Will trailed his lips down my ne

  • SWEET TEMPTATION   Chapter 11: Will

CHAPTER 11WILLThe first thing I heard when the elevator came to a halt on the top floor of my building were the girls' voices, a bit loud and punctuated by soft giggles.I push open the front door and take in the scene, captivated; the two of them, like a pair of schoolgirls, are sprawled on the sofa with glasses full of red wine. They’re wearing tiny pajama shorts and camisoles. They don’t even flinch at my arrival until I kick the door shut."Dad, you’re home!" Susan throws her arms up in a silent invitation for me to come closer. It was obvious from her voice that she’d already had quite enough wine for one night.I walk straight toward them to say hello."Have you eaten yet?" I lean down and kiss Susan on the forehead. I notice Carol shifting uncomfortably; I turn and, without overthinking it, I kiss her forehead too. Her soft skin against my lips sends a tickle through me. I notice her catch her breath, so I pull away and act as if I hadn't noticed."I have, but Carol ha

  • SWEET TEMPTATION   Chapter 10: Will

CHAPTER 10WILL"Wow. Are you planning to close the restaurant too?" As we talked, the man accompanied me to the entrance of what was now my building."No, I plan to keep that. Well, I must be going. My daughter is waiting for me at home.""Of course. See you around."I head to my car and climb in. I glance at the dashboard clock: quarter to five. I’d make it back by nightfall, and I still had to call Matt to let him know everything was ready and talk about the new plans... While driving, I let my mind drift back to a memory of when I first met her: Carol had just walked through the front door of the apartment, showing off those gorgeous long legs; God, they seemed infinite. Tan skin, wrapped in tiny denim shorts. My eyes kept traveling up to her flat stomach, where only a small sliver of skin was visible. She wore a black long-sleeved shirt and her brown hair was loose. Her face, without a drop of makeup, was truly beautiful. I swear I tried with everything I had to look away. But sh

  • SWEET TEMPTATION   Chapter 9: Will

CHAPTER 9WILLWhat the hell was I thinking when I stole Susan’s keys to Carol’s apartment? Showing up at her place like some kind of animal... I think I let myself get carried away by that conversation I overheard Susan having. Seeing her with another man last night—someone who wasn’t me—was an image that clouded my every sense. Then, she didn't answer my texts, confirming that what I’d heard was true.Dammit, I didn't understand why I was acting this way. Carol wasn't for me; she’s barely a girl... Though seeing her like that, so sensual and sexy in those pink panties and that short t-shirt—hell, I was hard as a rock in seconds. Not losing control and taking her right there on the kitchen island was the hardest challenge I’ve ever faced. Now, what I couldn't wrap my head around was why Carol was alone instead of having company; I’d find the answers to that soon enough. That little girl—though she was anything but little—was undoing me. I couldn’t get her scent out of my mind, t

  • SWEET TEMPTATION   Chapter 8: Carol

CHAPTER 8CAROLMy workday was nearly over when my phone vibrated in my desk drawer, signaling a text. I pulled it out. My brow furrowed when I saw it was an unknown number. I tapped the screen to open the message.—Still at the office?Butterflies began to flutter wildly in my stomach. It had to be Will; no one else has my number except for Susan and my parents. I checked the time in the corner of the screen: five-thirty.—Yes. But I’m almost ready to leave. Do you need something? C.I signed off with my initial.—Yes. Save my number. W.The man loved giving orders. But this part had nothing to do with work. I ignored his request and left the phone on the desk. I gathered my things, grabbed my purse, and stood up."Ready to go?" I turned to see Marta."Yes. You?""Let's go then. I’m dying to get home, I’ve got things to do.""Right." I grabbed my phone just as it vibrated in my hand again. I read the message. “Why are you leaving me on read! That’s rude. W.”I stopped dead
