THIRD PERSON POV

Saphire pushed through the branches without slowing even though the burn in her ribs was flaring with every step but she refused to slow down or stop moving. Because that meant she would start thinking.

By the time her isolated cabin came into view she finally stopped at the treeline to watch the place.

The cabin was quiet and the windows were dark while the door was still shut. That’s the way it was meant to look but she couldn’t be too sure. Something felt off.

That’s the way it was meant to look but she couldn’t be too sure. Something felt off. She stood there for a while longer scanning the area for anything out of place but nothing was obvious and it looked like it did when she left. She stepped out anyway and crossed the clearing with her knife in her hand. She slowly walked onto the veranda and slowly opened the door. There was nothing inside. It was completely silent. So she stepped in closer feeling the adrenaline finally run out and her shoulders dropped. She shut and locked the door before taking off her jacket and stripping off her tor

The clearing settled into silence after that but I kept my blade raised because I didn’t trust how easily they had walked away from this fight. Behind me Dante and Travis stayed where they were, not daring to come near me.“She took them apart like they were nothing.” Travis muttered. Dante finally tried to walk closer to me but I didn’t lower my knife. “You can stop staring.” I said keeping my voice steady even though my side burned with every breath. “I’m not staring. I’m trying to understand what just happened.” Dante said. “Then you’re going to be standing there for a while.” I said, trying to hide the pain that I was feeling. “They knew your name.” He said. “So what?” I shrugged. “That’s not normal. They weren’t random and they weren’t hunting blind.” He said. “I already figured that out.” I snapped.“You’re bleeding.” He said. “I’m aware. Don’t touch me.” I said stepping back from him. He didn’t listen and I snapped faster than he had expected. “Don’t fucking touch m

The first vampire moved before the others and that was his first mistake because I already knew where my blade was going. The same blade that I always keep wrapped to my thigh. He lunged for my throat and I dropped low as his claws sliced the air and my hand closed around the knife handle. I came up under his ribs and drove the blade in.His body jerked as I twisted and pulled it free again. As he was falling I shoved him aside so he crashed into the second vampire coming from my left. The third vampire came in fast and smarter because he didn’t come head on. He circled while the other two recovered and I backed towards the trees without taking my eyes off of them because I wasn’t going to be surrounded by them in the open. That’s just a stupid way to die. I could hear them breathing even though they didn’t need to and that told me they were putting on a show. They were coordinated. The second and third vampire both attacked together but I moved first. I pivoted toward the tree an

The room went deadly quiet until the woman looked at Kyle and then back at me. “You’re the guy from the river.” She said. “Alpha Dante Moretti.” I introduced myself. “Why the hell did you call me ‘mate’? I’m not your mate.” She said. “You saved my life. You knew what to do to stop those vampires from killing me. No one knows how to do that.” I said. “My father taught me.” She said. “Your father?” I said confused. “Her father was the great Samuel Matthews.” Kyle said in a condescending way. “Holy shit. Everyone knows about your father. He was the best vampire hunter we’ve ever seen.” I said. “And he also knew how to follow the rules.” Kyle said. “Do you ever get sick of listening to your own voice?” She asked looking at Kyle which caused his jaw to flex. Wow. She’s definitely got guts to stand up to her Alpha like that. But she could also just be pissed because she’s been detained for a bullshit reason. “What do you want?” She asked. “What’s your name?” I asked.

DANTE POVTravis got me back to the pack hospital where they stitched me up and made sure that all my vitals were fine. They wanted me to stay in the hospital but I was adament that I was leaving. When I got back to the packhouse Travis was waiting for me and we went into my office. “Have you contacted Alpha Kyle yet?” I asked as I sat behind my desk. “I left a message. He wouldn’t take the call.” Travis said. I leaned back on my chair and I started thinking about the pack that lived so close but was so far away. “What do we know about that pack?” I asked. “Not much. They make sure of it. He runs a pretty tight ship. He makes sure that everyone in the pack keeps their mouth shut and doesn’t talk to outsiders. No one really knows anything about them. Alpha Kyle became Alpha when he was 22 because his father was killed and his mother is still living in the pack. People believe that she’s still running the pack and she’s the reason why no one knows anything about them. She doesn’t

ALPHA DANTE POVDuring my usual rounds of the grounds was pretty routine. I liked to patrol my own territory to make sure that nothing is out of place. I don’t know why I do it but I always do. Especially with the rise of vampire attacks and I like to make sure that my pack is safe. This day wasn’t like any other day though. I didn’t catch a scent of anything, but as I heard something flying through the air I turned around just in time for it to strike me across the ribs. I fell to the ground and rolled to my side as I saw two vampires step out of the treeline and think they had won the ultimate prize by attacking an Alpha. But they underestimated me. After a fierce battle that severely injured me one of the vampires stabbed me in the chest with a silver blade and I fell back into the river with a strong current and carried me for so many miles. I finally felt something catch my ankle and when I reached down it was a net that looked like it had been placed there on purpose. Almost
