Chapter 40

Once upon a time when I walked through these hallways and entered any room, I was always met with either children, Quentin's wives or servants. I could always hear some noise no matter where I was. At that time when I'd just gotten here, it would irritate me and pain me. Those loud happy laughs and the constant sounds of mothers scolding their children to stay away from anything that would hurt them.

As I run my finger across the walls it seems like a distant memory. The only sound that meets me now, is the sound of my breathing and the almost silent patter of my feet as I walk through the house by myself.
