Time for a distraction.
“Hi, Opal!” I greeted her with a welcoming smile on my face.
Startled that I started up a conversation with her, “Oh, oh, hi… Lili with an I right?”
Shushing Susi’s giggles, I confirmed her question, “Yepp, that’s me! Nice to meet you!” attempting to respond bubblier, like the Su Monster beside me who seemed to burn to get her chance to speak with the strange guy sitting with us.
Opal nodded her head and smiled with her palm facing upwards towards the new guy.
“This is Simon, my twin brother.”
Susi’s and my mouths dropped. This Simon was gorgeous. He was on the same scale of sexiness as Connor. The resemblance to Opal was extremely obvious now. Both had vivid, dark red hair and freckles splashed on their faces. They could’ve been a pair of models. Light brown eyes with speckles of green in them. They’re both stunning.
Clearly listening to our greetings, even if he did not acknowledge us at first, he looked at us and grinned. “Yo.”
Yo? I couldn’t help but silently laugh.
“Heyyy, handsome.” Susi flirted.
Susi’s POV
Whew, Simon is HOT. Not my cup of tea because he is obviously not my mate, but YUM.
Kia: Really, Su? Can you stop fooling around and find our mate already?
My Lykos is fed up with me. I can’t help but have fun while I still have the chance. We don’t know how our future will be when we find our mate. What if our mate is a Beta or an Alpha? Our freedom will end. She and I have already discussed this. Her response was that the Gods would never pair us with someone who would take away our beloved freedom. I beg to differ. I’ve seen it happen all too often to other she-wolves.
I leaned forward onto the table, daydreaming as I responded to Kia.
Me: Don’t worry, he’s human, plus, I think he has eyes for our future Luna. Hah. He’s already set for having a funeral.
“So, Mr. Gorgeous,” I smirked at him, pulling his eyes from my pretty little Lili. “See anything you like?”
He blushed as I put him on the spot, but quickly recovered. “Obviously.”
He rolled his eyes at me. Well damn, this boy has some attitude.
Facing Lili again and he directed his question to her, “Yo, Pretty Blue Eyes.”
WOW, he’s direct and not shy at all. Completely the opposite of poor Opal over here. Lili wasn’t paying attention to the staring and instead focused on the front board. Was it just me, or did she look lost in thought?
She jerked her attention to him when he leaned across the table and snapped his fingers in front of her face.
Startled, she snapped at him, “Can I help you?”
She furrowed her brows in annoyance. Opal widened her eyes, waiting for his response.
“Did I strike a nerve? Damn, babe, chill the fuck out. Gotta get to know me anyway since we are official partners for the rest of the year.” He winked at her and did a half-grin.
“Great...” She grimaced as she drew the word out longer.
He leaned back in his chair, confident because he had gotten under her skin.
“Ignore him. He’s an ass. I’m sorry we’re stuck with him.” Opal apologized, rolling her eyes at him.
“It’s alright, honey, we love asses on men.” I giggled and pretended to bite the air at him.
Deciding now was a good time to pull Connor’s leg, I opened the bond link and shot him a message.
Me: Hey, Big Dog, you got some competition.
Pleased with my “Big Dog” phrase, I couldn’t help but chuckle out loud causing me to shrug off Opal and Lili’s confused looks.
Growling followed the link.
Connor: Big dog?
It surprised me at how long it took him to catch on. It must seriously distract him with the whole mate thing.
Connor: Competition!? The fuck!? Get him to back off. Who is it? I’ll link him.
Me: No chance. He’s human. He’s a cocky bastard too.
I giggled and took the chance to annoy my Alpha some more.
Me: Did I mention he’s really freaking hot?
He was snarling now, making Kia whimper.
Connor: What class are you in?
Hehe, I pissed him off. I shut the link down without giving him an answer. For whatever reason, Lili felt bothered. It had to do with him, and I don’t appreciate that one bit.
Kia: He’s going to discipline us… you shouldn’t have done that.
Rolling my eyes, I ignored her whining. Connor won’t dare do anything to us, knowing we are close to his mate. Not to mention, my Empath abilities are highly valuable within the pack, giving me the status of Beta even though I am a female. He needs me to protect her when he cannot.
It distracted my thoughts on how to handle the Connor - Lili situation when the smell of arousal hit my nose. Not female arousal, but male!
I took a gander around the room as I tried to follow the aroma with my nose. I don't know how I missed it, but the smell was drifting from Simon. If he was a werewolf, he would've never allowed anyone to smell him like that unless he was seeking to get laid in a room full of women. Turns out I wasn't the only Lykos bearer in the room to flavor his essence. Two other she-wolves tilted their heads up, deeply inhaling the aroma.
Kyla, a mated wolf, and Alexa, who is close friends with Talia. I was more concerned about Alexa jumping him since she was mateless, but I was a tad bit curious why Kyla was following the scent. She knew it wasn't her mate, and yet she was allowing herself to be turned on by the need of another male, a human at that. Kyla's lust wafted through the air as she responded to the scent of Simon first. She had me flabbergasted.
Simon's aroma had turned her heat on, and she was asking him to mate with her!? Even though he was human and couldn't smell her offer, I attempted to diffuse the situation without him getting found out. I also didn't want the other males-wolves to catch her scent over Alexa's. It could lead to some problems within the pack. He did not affect me, but that was probably because I had better control over my Lykos being a Beta.
Focusing on Kyla, I opened a bond link.
Me: Can you chill out over there?
Clearly startled by me, not knowing I was in the class, she dropped her face and focused on the book in front of her.
Me: Respond! I can still smell you.
Kyla: I---I don't know what came over me.
Me: You are around teenage boys all day during school. Not to mention you're mated to Luthor. There is no reason for you to behave in such a manner.
I could no longer smell the offer she had replied to Simon with.
Me: Thank you. If this happens again, I will advise Luthor and the Alpha of it.
I heard a whimper from her in the class, which caused a few heads to look at her in question. She just shook her head in response to them to let them know it was nothing.
Kyla: Yes, my Beta. I understand. Can we speak in person after class?
Me: Of course.
I shut the link down and brought my attention back to Simon, who was now pestering Lili. Opal's face showed astonishment at something Simon had either done or said.
Lilith's POV I didn't need any more distractions. Connor had me frustrated enough to just want to ignore this sexy man sitting in front of me. He wouldn't remove his eyes from my face, causing me to feel a small ounce of insecurity. To make matters worse, he was insistent on me giving him my undivided attention. Clearing his throat to get my attention yet again, I gave him a sideways peek. He smirked with his lips slightly pulled back from his teeth. His tongue flickered across his lips like he was staring at something delectable. He continued to play with me. I couldn't concentrate on the lecture. Not even Connor. Perturbed with him, I crossed my arms and relaxed back in my seat, accidentally kicking the pole of the table. I watched as my pen rolled off onto the floor and made its way under the table. Rolling my eyes, frustrated that I must hop off my stool to grab my pen, he stops me. "It's alright, I got you." He said, win
I hesitantly agreed to walk with Simon to history class. Opal had enough of his foolery and headed to her own class. She reminded me to kick him in his testicles if he tried me again. I couldn't help but laugh when she said it because Simon winced and covered himself. We stopped by my locker first since it was closer and then made our way to his. When we came upon his row of lockers, my eyes landed upon Mr. God-Like and the skank who had him pushed up against the lockers. Her body smashed against his. Didn't they get enough during their free period?? I felt prepared to handle anything relating to Connor with Simon beside me. I didn't know what my relationship with Simon was to me, but he attempted to cheer me up, and in my books, that's something a friend would do. All I could hope for, as we came up to the locker beside Connor and Talia, was that Simon would defend me against Connor. I could handle Talia on my own. Connor's eyes fell upon mine, black w
Connor’s POV Hearing the strange guy call her “Lil” bothered me. It told me they were becoming close. Something she and I had yet to become and wouldn’t if I kept fooling around with Talia. Who could blame me? Meeting my mate has sent my hormones raging, and I’m not ready to accept Lili as my mate. I fear risking the change to her. This must be the guy Susi was harassing me about when I was having my heated earlier. He was on the same level as me with looks, but he was not me. He was not Lili’s mate. Even though these are true, it doesn’t stop the fact that he was human, making him a better choice for her. A safer choice. Watching my little mate reveal her backbone struck pride deep in my soul. She had no fear in her eyes as she got in my face and snapped. Keeping my distance from her was nearly impossible in the first place, so when she did that, whew. I had an urge to claim her but held back to watch her squirm with my flirtatious
Lilith’s POV 4th period ended up being boring. The teacher was super strict with us not speaking, but that didn’t stop Simon from giving me small pokes or knee bumps. Occasionally, he would lean back and throw his arm across my shoulders. Susi would catch him from the other side of me and shove his arm off. Shaking her finger at him, mouthing “No!”. These two had me going back and forth the entire class. I did like Simon. He was blunt and not afraid to go for what he wanted. Even if he tried to push my boundaries, I at least knew where I stood with him. The bell rang, and we hopped out of our seats. The three of us tried to race out of the room at the same time and got stuck in the doorway until Alexa was kind enough to shove us through. Giggling like little girls, yes, even Simon, we headed for the cafeteria to have lunch. The lunch lady slopped gooey mac and cheese onto each of our trays and asked if we preferred a burger or pizza. I’m a p
Simon’s POV My last few classes passed slower than molasses. I was craving Lil’s presence. It felt like I was no longer a whole. I’ve dated plenty of chicks, but never once felt this urge to hook to a woman’s side. There was an innocence about her I desired. I’m used to girls throwing themselves at me and me having whichever pick of the bunch I wanted, when I wanted, and where I wanted them. But Lil, it was as if she didn’t care about the male race. That was until I saw her react to the guy in the hallway. When my eyes met his, after she made her PDA comment, I felt an urge to attack him. I couldn’t explain why, just that he pissed me the fuck off. His eyes told me to back off, but my mind said to put him in his place. I was grateful for the distraction the girls caused, including the desire to protect Lil. Being a top jock in my old school earned me the respect of other dudes. They never challenged me. They also NEVER gave a second glance t
Lilith's POV While Simon drove to the little town at the end of the mountain’s road, we talked about our parents, which led to more. Just like mine, his parents loved him dearly. Their parents treated Opal and he as equals and considered them both to be Golden Children. He told me how they watched Opal be mentally tougher, whereas him being physically tougher. It made them the perfect unit. It turns out the reason Opal was so shy was because of girls at school choosing to be friends with her just to get close to her brother. She couldn’t find genuine friends and kept getting used. With guys wanting to date her, they were afraid of the aftermath of Simon and refused to act on their feelings. Opal had never had a boyfriend, thanks to Simon, and Simon had never had a girlfriend who hadn’t tried to take advantage of his sister. “At least you guys can still come home to a house full of love. It’s like life decided you had too many good th
Simon's POV Lil inputted her address into my GPS, and we made our way back into the mountains. She played with her phone, trying to get used to it. I gave her my phone number and watched her type in Susi’s number, too. I offered her Opal’s number, but she declined talking about how she wanted to go about it the right way, so she didn’t feel used. That made me smile. I’ve known this girl for a day, and I’m falling hard for her. She’s compassionate and loyal. Nothing like the previous chicks I’ve dated. And the way she teased me earlier? Oh. Hot. Damn. Lil is feisty but pure. I don’t know where she developed the skills to tease like that. It was almost like something clicked in her when our eyes met in the car. We reached her home, and she made no effort to leave the car. She seemed hesitant, which I could understand
Lilith's POVMy phone's alarm went off and almost fell when I felt for it in the dark. A mini heart attack ached my chest as I caught it by its charger mid-drop. Hissing under my breath as the screen's brightness burned my eyes, I climbed out of bed and slipped on knee-length gray gym shorts and a black tank top. This school seemed pretty lax on the dress code for girls, so I wasn't too worried about the spaghetti straps showing. My sports bra underneath was wearing down enough to allow the shapes of my nipples to be identified. It was 6 in the morning, and thanks to it being Summer time, the sun was just peaking through my blinds. Tim would not be awake yet, even if he was an early riser. My plan was to wake up before him today, rush downstairs to grab a snack, and sneak out. I wasn't playing nice for him anymore. Especially after he almost killed me last night. I hadn't expected him to come chasing after me with a butcher knife. He reminded
