Chapter 4: My Special Place

Amelie

As soon as the switch is flipped, the loudest scream, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" came  from James's room. Next, we heard the door slam open. From the top of the stairs, he yelled, "Who has a death wish? Who did it?" I looked up to see our baby brother, who was not such a baby anymore. He was a towering 6'4" with light brown hair and similar caramel highlights to mine. He also had our father's bright blue eyes and high cheekbones. He was still a bit skinny as he was only 17 and had yet to fill out. I could tell he would be more imposing physically than our father, but could he play the mental game as dad could? This was yet to be determined. As things stood, we sisters were winning. Little, soon-to-be Alpha was losing his mind, and Hope and I could only snicker mockingly.

"Oh, Hope, look at the little pup. He seems angry, and whatever will we do? I'm so scared of this little pup." I mocked as James came rushing down the stairs. We ran around the house playing some odd form of keep away and tag until our father stepped into the room.

"Enough," he said using his Alpha tone, which made us stop in our tracks. Not fair. "You are adults, yet you act like children whenever you are all together. Now stop tearing up the house before your mom yells at me." We all knew who the actual "Alpha" in the family was. We held it in, trying so hard not to laugh.

Our dad just shook his head at his three adult but forever children and said, "Dinner is ready. Come on before it gets cold." He sighed and waited for me to bring up the rear. He put his arm around my shoulder and kissed the top of my head. "How are you doing, kiddo?"

"I'm good, dad. It's nice to be home again." He smiled at me, but I could see a little pain in his eyes as he looked at me. "I promise, I'm fine. My business is doing good. Everything's fine."

"OK, kiddo. I understand." With that, we continued our walk to the small family dining room that was used only for the Alpha's family.

Inari chimed in, "I told you he already knows. He can feel your pain through his family bond. You cannot lie to your parents. You need to talk to him."

I knew she was right, but I just wanted to live in this happy moment without my shame and sadness taking over. "Inari, you're right, but let's wait till after the heir ceremony. I'm here for James. Also, I'm mated he can't feel me in the family bond like before. You know that." I could feel Inari agree and shift back again. "Let's go for a run tonight. We'll go to our spot." Inari agreed, and I entered the dining room.

Luna Celest gave me a huge hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Hello, love! Did you have a nice drive?"

"Yeah, I always enjoy the hills and mountains on the drive." I hug her back and take my seat at the table.

The rest of dinner had its usual banter. We caught up on each other's lives, teasing from time to time and getting our marching orders from Celest. We all had a job to do tomorrow to ensure the event went off without a hitch. All I could do was smile and let my heart fill to the brim.

After dinner, I switched into some workout clothes, leggings, and a long-sleeved t-shirt and went out the backdoor to the tree line. Once I got there, I stripped down and let Inari out. I was filled with all the love from my family and, at the same time, sadness. I knew it was going to end. I needed some air, and Inari needed to run free. So, I shifted, which I didn't do often enough since finding my mate. My body cracked and twisted. Fur pushed through my every pore. Werewolves who shift repeatedly need a ton of protein. It takes a lot to keep up a wolf's body. Finally, I complete my shift, and Inari stands in her full glory - chocolate brown with an almost gold undercoat; her eyes changed from my stormy grey to a rich topaz. "OK, it's all you, Inari. Let's go to our spot." At that, we take off through the woods to find our favorite mountain clearing.

Once we get there, I shift back. I'm naked, but I love this place. Growing up, I would find wildflowers and wild herbs. I would collect the seeds and bring them to this clearing. I walked through the wildflowers and herbs. I looked around to take in the violets, gaillardia, yarrow, feverfew, echinacea mixed with thyme and wild rosemary, and mountain mint. It was a little slice of heaven for me. It was a place where I could indeed be at peace. I could just be with no judgment, no expectations, and no one controlling me. It was just my plants and me growing and thriving. I breathed in the cool mountain air of Western South Dakota and looked up at the clear night sky. Up here, away from everything, you could see every star. I spent the time trying to identify constellations, which I am terrible at. I think everything looks like the big dipper. Good thing I didn't have to navigate by the stars. Who knows where I would end up?

"Am, we need to head back. Tomorrow will be a long day, and you will be needed to represent your family."

"I know. It's just so peaceful here. I never want to leave."

Inari sighed. She felt the same as me. This was our peaceful place. It was the one place we wished we could take with us. With that, I stood up, my naked butt covered in dirt. I dust myself off and step back, making sure not to step on the chamomile in front of me. Inari shifted, and we headed back to where we had left our clothes. I dressed and started to walk back to the Packhouse. I could see a silhouette in the backdoor. It slowly stepped away once it saw me. I could only assume it was my father. It was his regular practice when I lived with him before. He just wanted to make sure I was safe while also giving me my space.

I went back to my old room. Everything was left as it was. It was like a time capsule. It was all frozen at the moment; my life changed when I found my mate.  I found it both comforting and a little unnerving.

I rinsed off in the shower and pulled on some pajamas. I realized I hadn't checked my phone since I got to my parent's house. A jolt of pure panic shot through me. I didn't want to check, but I knew I would have to. There were five missed calls and 20 texts. The last text sent a chill through me.

"Don't answer my calls and texts for hours? There will be consequences." I read aloud. Shit, what was I going to do now? I looked at the time. It was only 10:30 PM. It wasn't that late yet. I quickly text him back, hoping I can stem his anger.

"Hey, babe! Sorry for the late text; I was spending time with the fam. I'll call you as soon as I'm up in the morning. Love you, good night." I breathed a heavy sigh. I prayed that was enough to calm him. My phone buzzed again.

"Don't let it happen again." That was it. For now, I averted disaster. I plugged my phone into the charger and laid down in my childhood bed. I pushed everything out of my mind and just let the sounds of the woods nearby sing me their sweet lullaby as sleep took over.

Chapter 90 Gideon "Alright, gentlemen, what's today's topic?" I take a seat on the sofa next to James, John, and Harlow. Flynn, Logan, and Rylie are sitting across from us on the other couch. "The raid and the New Moon Alliance issue has found its way overseas to the International Councils. They are calling a review of the incident. So, in other words, we all have to go on a trip." John sighs. This was to be expected, but it's still a pain. "So where are we being dragged to this time?" Logan grunts. Now that he is part of the Alpha Council and played a significant role in the raid, he was required to attend. Logan didn't like traveling more than a few hours from his pack, so this was a major annoyance. "South Korea." "What!?" Logan stood up in protest. "Hell No! I'm not going!" "Alpha Logan, you know very well you don't have a choice. You and your heir are required to attend as we all are." Flynn l

Chapter 89 Amelie "Oh no, no no no! Got you!" I lift Aspen in the air, and the sound of his giggles is the world's sweetest music. "Where do you think you're going, mister!" Birch squeals as I pick him up in my other arm. Escaping mom is our favorite game these days. I can't believe they turned one today. My little trees are growing so fast, and of course, since they are always around older kids, they have developed very quickly and have already started walking. "Daisy, Rose, girls, can you help me with your brothers for a second?" I pop my head out of my bedroom door, looking for signs of my daughters. They come tumbling out of their bedroom door. "Yes, mommy, we can help." Rose eagerly bounces past me into my bedroom. Daisy twirling behind. I set the boys down on the floor with their toys. "Thank you, girls. Once mommy is ready, she will help you get ready for the party. Are you excited to see your grandparents?" "We w

Chapter 88 Gideon I must hurry. I'm whipping through the mountains running the best direct route I can. My lungs burn my paws feel like they will split and bleed at any moment, but stopping is not an option. I don't know what happened, but Daisy was hurt, and Amelie is in a lot of pain. I'm still too far to bond-link her, but I feel her. I feel a sharp rock split my paw; I keep going. "Ulv, we need to dig deep. How do we use our fae and elf magic?" "Not sure, never tried." Ulv is as determined as I am. Nothing is stopping us. Ulv is in control, so I concentrate and search for a trigger to our magic. We needed the boost desperately. I first searched by exploring the bonds that will help me find our core and where Ulv and I are connected. When Ulv is in control, I usually don't fully let go. The only other time was during Amelie's heat, and then I focused on her and our spiritual connection. I start with my mate bond. It's like a

Chapter 87 Amelie No! Somethings wrong! My chest feels tight. It's Daisy. What's wrong. My body moves before my thoughts can catch up. I have to get to the great room now. The pack-link was alerted too. I move as fast as I can. I feel someone coming up from behind me. I turn my head and see Shay and Jordan closing the gap on me. Becky and Bailey are following close behind. "You feel it too?" I don't stop; I keep running. "Easten is terrified." It sounds like his mother is too. "I've never felt this much rage and fear from Ryan." Jordan's tone is anxious. "We just saw everyone leave and felt we should follow. What's going on?" Becky is already panting. "I don't know, but it's the kids." I keep looking forward; I must keep moving forward. We are greeted with a paralyzing scene. I see wolves I've never seen before. They have all the Omegas and pups corralled in the corner. They have silver weapons, and the O

  • Scars   Chapter 86

Chapter 86 Gideon "Let her go, you coward." Beta Newman snarls through gritted teeth. Lacy is strangely calm as the bright silver blade is positioned at her ebony neck. It's as if Nox is holding the still night hostage, but by the look in Lacy's eyes, the night was about to strike back. "Nox, why are you doing this? I am your mate. You love me." Lacy's tone didn't match her face. I could tell she was buying time. I didn't know why. I could only play along and trust father and daughter. "Oh, Lacy dear. I've never loved you. You were just a means to an end. Although you are a tempting means." Nox takes a deep inhale of Lacy's scent. This must have been what she was waiting for. Lacy digs her claws in Nox's side. He drops his arm holding the knife, and she rushes to her father's arms. "You bitch! You will pay for that! Don't think I will treat you as nicely as before." Nox is holding his side but now has the silver blade pointed at me. He must be

Chapter 85 Amelie "Are coms up between packs?" This is it. The day of reckoning has finally come. "Yes, Luna, everyone is connected." Magen gives me a nod and waits for my call. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I hate being the center of anything, but now was not the time to falter. "OK. Let's get everyone connected." With a few keystrokes, the wall of monitors lights up. "Hello, everyone. Our warriors need our eyes, ears, and prayers. Our central team will be watching the action, but we will need your help as well. Thank you all for joining virtually this evening. Let the Goddess be on our side." I have three monitors on the desk in front of me connected to Gideon, dad, James, Riley, and Logan. We spread out all the ranked members joining the raid, so Marcus went with my dad and James. At the same time, Tyson and Uncle Lucas went to one of the separate off-pack faculties together. Some of the Luna's and ranked females are also joining the raid
