Chapter 13.

Marissa POV.

Sleep didn’t happen. Everything just stayed on repeat. I miss my wolf Zarah. She would have been able to comfort me and no doubt give me the strength to tell them all to fuck off. But alas, we had to bind her, and now I am truly alone. I could speak to Lucy, but there is only so much I can tell her. Humans can’t know of our existence. If they did, it would cause nothing but panic and the possible mass genocide of my species.

Giving up on sleep, I get up and get dressed in a white ruffle-trim sundress. I updo my hair with a pearl U pin, grab my sunhat, sunglasses, and phone before I head out. Tiptoeing through the bungalow, I leave a note telling Lucy and Andrew I will be back later.

The sun hasn’t risen yet, but the birds are awake and they call to me. Breathing the cool early morning breeze, I drive to the beach car park that overlooks the bluff.

Climbing out of the car, I smile as I take my sandals off and walk along the waterline, the cool gentle waves lap at my feet
