Chapter 3 Living Together

Chris nodded. "Follow me then. Since you're married to me, then we should be living together."

Laura thought about it and then nodded in agreement.

She probably wouldn't be able to head back to that home of hers anyway.

When Laura thought of Shona's attitude towards her, a flash of sadness appeared in her eyes.

Chris had always been very sensitive. He had sensed the change in mood of the person next to him, but he wouldn't ask anything that had nothing to do with him.

Chris brought Laura to a normal community where he had got someone to buy in the afternoon.

"The passcode is 159357," Chris told Laura the passcode to the door.

After they went in, Laura realized that the house was quite big, but it was a little empty. Only a sofa, a table, a couple of chairs were in the living room and nothing else.

"This is your room. All the pillows and sheets are clean and they're on the bed."

"Okay, thank you." Laura turned around and looked at Chris. It was late, so she wanted to have a shower, but realized that she hadn't brought any clothes to change into.

All the stores were closed at this hour.

Chris seemed to have seen Laura's poverty-stricken state and asked, "What's wrong?"

"I haven't brought any fresh clothes with me."

"I'll get my... friend to bring you some. He runs a clothes store not far away. Tell me your size."

"There's no need to trouble your friend at this hour."

Laura didn't feel like it was suitable to trouble others at this hour to trouble others.

Chris lowered his head and started typing on his phone. It seemed that he was sending a message to someone.

After a short pause, Chris said, "He hasn't gone to bed yet and is coming over already. He's not far away."

After hearing those words, Laura could only express her gratitude.

Chris wasn't someone who would just not be responsible for someone he had brought home. Laura was his wife after all.

It would only be normal for him when he found out about Laura's real plans and divorced her.

After the fresh clothes had arrived, Laura said, "Thank you, Mr. Jacobs. How much are these clothes, I'll pay for them."

"There's no need."

Laura felt a little bad for taking the clothes for free. She wanted to say something else, but she saw the tired look on Chris's face, so she had no choice but to say, "Thank you. In the future, you can tell me if there's anything else you need."

She was married to Chris, so they would need to live together in the future. Therefore, Laura didn't insist on paying Chris. She would make it up to him in other matters in the future.

There were two bathrooms. Laura came out after a quick shower. The door to the other bathroom opened as well.

Chris walked out topless and the two of them locked gazes unexpectedly. Laura immediately blushed.

It was the first time she had seen a half-naked man like this, especially those abs that stood out.

Chris frowned and cursed inwardly.

He was used to being alone and had forgotten that there was a woman at home.

However, Chris would never allow himself to be embarrassed in front of others. He pretended to remain calm as he walked towards his room. If one looked closely at his footsteps, he was actually in a little bit of a panic.

Laura breathed a sigh of relief and went back into her own room. After setting the bed, she went to lie down. She suddenly felt that she couldn't actually fall asleep.

Her mind was in a little bit of chaos. Laura thought of her family and then herself.

She couldn't believe that she married a stranger.

However, it was getting late, Laura would need to get some rest.

She was the store manager of a small convenience store. The convenience store was located next to a company called the Jacobs Group. The business was quite good and her salary would be about 3000 dollars a month.

Laura had two days off a week. It was a new week the next day, so she would have to go to work.

On the morning of the next day, Laura got out of bed as soon as the alarm went off.

The convenience store would open at eight o'clock in the morning and it was seven o'clock.

After a simple wash-up, Laura saw the door of the other room was still closed, so she didn't disturb the other party. She left a note for Chris telling him that she was going to work before leaving the house.

She felt that for someone who worked in a company, the start time would be a little later.

Laura traveled on the bus to work.

The convenience store wasn't big, but it had a lot of things. Combined with its good location, a lot of the Jacobs Group's employees would come to the store during their break times to buy things.

As soon as Laura reached the store, she saw a girl standing outside.

"Excuse me, are you Shannon?" Laura asked politely.

The girl was wearing a light yellow dress and had two braids and was wearing a cap. She had a bright smile on her face. When she saw Laura, her eyes lit up. "Are you Miss Walker?"

"That's right." Laura nodded as she walked to the store entrance and opened it.

A convenience store would normally consist of one store manager and at least one store assistant. The previous store assistant resigned a while ago, so Laura employed Shannon through online interviews.

Shannon had experience working as a store assistant. After Laura opened the door, she took Shannon to have a look around.

After having a look around, Shannon quickly went to tidy the goods on the racks.

Laura went to take a look at the accounts as well. She then picked up a loaf of bread and a bottle of milk from the side and asked Shannon, "Have you had breakfast?"

"I've already eaten, Miss Walker. Do you have that every morning? That's not going to cut it. I've got some extra hard-boiled eggs with me, I'll give you some."

Shannon went into her bag, took out a hard-boiled egg inside and handed it to Laura.

Laura had no choice but to accept the offer.

Convenience stores would often close quite late. Every time Laura finished her shower at night, it would almost be midnight. Therefore, to make sure she had enough sleep, Laura would always have a loaf of bread and a glass of milk when she got to the store.

"You must take breakfast seriously. Do you know what rich people have for their breakfast?" Shannon pointed upwards in the direction of the Jacobs Group.

"I have a cousin working for the Jacobs Group. I've heard from him that their CEO would have Muesli that's flown in the same day every morning! One breakfast meal would cost a normal their whole monthly salary!"
