Hazel’s P.O.V.

My feet felt like a foreign object attached to my body when I walked towards the backyard of the packhouse.

That’s where Naisha was hosting lunch with her friends and minions. Each of them had a black heart like Naisha.

After searching for Naisha's whereabouts all morning, I learned from a kitchen maid that Naisha had planned a lunch with her friends in the pack house. I waited for her to finish the lunch so that they don't dump the whole lunch on me.

While searching for her, I learned that Keith left the ceremony right after she marked him. He didn’t kiss her to finish the ritual.

He searched for someone all night, and now he was sleeping in his room after getting heavily drunk this morning, ruining their first night completely.

The whole situation made me understand that instead of confronting Keith, Naisha blamed everything on me.

I heard a few murmurs that she was like a wounded wolf last night, lashing out at everyone to find Keith's whereabouts, breaking whatever thing came into her sight, and beating a few maids to vent her anger. She even tried to find my whereabouts.

I don’t know what was going on in her mind, but one thing I was sure about was that it will be my sheer luck if I walk away alive today.

“Look who graced us with her presence.” Ruby, her best friend, and David’s younger (also the meanest one) sister taunted me in disdain.

I gulped down the retort that suddenly came to my tongue and looked at Naisha with a calm face.

“Luna.” I greeted her formally, bowing my head to show respect, after stopping at a distance from their table.

Her dark green eyes shot daggers at me as soon as I looked up.

“My mother's medical grant is revoked this morning, Luna. They said that my mother didn’t fit for that, but her medical grant was approved by the former Luna.” I spoke, but she cut me off.

“And I am the present Luna now. If I said that your mother’s case is not eligible for a medical grant, then it isn’t. It's my duty to ensure that the charity falls to needy hands, not to leeches and homewreckers."

Xyla growled aloud in a fit of rage, ready to kill Naisha, but I blocked her again.

I had to because I knew what was coming to me.

I wanted to challenge her for her decision of over-powering the former Luna’s decision, but Keith’s parents had already gone out on a vacation.

“My mother is in a critical condition, Luna. She will not be able to survive more than a day if she doesn’t get the treatment.”

“So what? What does it have to do with me if she will survive or not? And it’s not like she is your birth mother.”

The taunt made my nails dig deeper in my palms.

“Oh, I forgot. She found you somewhere in the woods when you are only a baby. What a combination! A pathetic widow and a b*stard pup.” She laughed in disgust, followed by all her friends.

Mom was everything I had left.

After that attack, I was so traumatized that I didn’t come out from my hidden place. For two nights and three days, I stayed there, curled up, semiconscious.

It was Mary who found me. Her sister was mated to someone in my pack, and she came there after getting the news of the attack. She is also the only one who knew my secret.

She took me in and took me to her pack and adopted me. She was a poor omega, and her mate was already dead.

She found her motivation to live in me, and I was really grateful for her.

Even though the world was harsh on me, she was my shelter, my safety net, and the only person who loved and cared for me genuinely.

I had to save her, no matter what humiliation I would endoured today.

“Please, Luna. Be a magnanimous person and let her get treatment. She is my only family.” I pleaded, my eyes lowered, just like she loved to see me.

My hands were clasped tightly behind my back.

“Ooo….. you are begging me?” Naisha cooed sinisterly.

I gulped down the invisible lump that had formed in the middle of my throat.

“Kneel and beg her, Hazel. Show us how much you love your mom?” Ruby mocked while laughing hard.

Naisha looked at me mockingly, waiting for me to swallow my pride and surrender.

"Kneel! Didn't you say you desperately wanted to save your mother?"

I looked up at her, this time without begging. "If I did, would you let my mother continue her treatment?"

"You would never agree to that, because you're afraid Keith still wants me," I answered myself.

She immediately marched towards me and suddenly grabbed my hair at the back of my head and yanked it harshly,"How dare you threaten me! Keith chose me, not you!"

“Hold her.” She commanded her minions, and my heart sank.

Ruby and another girl held my arms and shoulder tightly, digging their nails deep inside my flesh intentionally.

I could fight, and I know that I can win against them.

But fighting means death for my mother.

Naisha continued hurting me while the other two continued pressing me down.

“Last night was supposed to make me shine in front of the whole world, but you ruined everything.” She shouted while hitting me.

I saw stars when she suddenly kicked me in the chest, and the tip of her sandals hit the same place where she had given me two broken ribs two days ago.

I felt like dying, but I didn’t open my mouth or plead.

Just a little more. Let her vent her anger, Hazel. You will be okay. This is for the woman who put her life at risk for you.

I continued chanting this in my heart, enduring the pain with all my strength, but soon, I felt that I would pass out at any time.

“Luna.” I heard someone calling her name, making her stop for a second, but she was still holding my hair; they were on the verge of leaving my scalp at any time.

Then the new girl whispered something into her ears.

She spoke in a low voice, but I could hear her clearly. Alpha Keith was about to sober up.

“Get up.” Naisha barked at me suddenly.

I flinched harder, but I still opened my eyes. She was still shooting daggers at me through her eyes, her face twisted at ugly angles, but she didn’t charge at me like earlier.

Ruby and others were now standing beside her; disdain and hatred were still evident in their gazes, but none of them spoke.

“I can give your mother that imported medicine for seven days, but this is the most lenient thing that I am going to do with you. You can have that, but both you and your mother have to leave the pack before dusk today, cutting all the ties with this pack, and you will never come back.”

My heart skipped a beat in fear, but what more can I expect from a heartless and cruel pathetic creature like Naisha?

“One gaze in Keith’s direction in the future, and I promise you that you will not get your mother’s body for a funeral.” I couldn’t take her threat lightly because I knew that she was able to do that.

Her father was an influential beta with a few successful businesses running in the human world.

She is reckless not because Keith chose her as his mate but because she had a strong backup of her family.

I slowly moved my body upward. Every muscle and nerve was screaming in pain, but I knew that I needed to get out from here.

“Thanks, Luna.” I murmured hoarsely.

“Pack your bags and reach the east-border station in three hours. Sign the papers, take the medicine, and get the f**k out of our lives.” Naisha barked like a mad b*tch.

I just nodded once, but winced in pain because of the injuries that I got on my shoulders and shoulder blades.

I struggled to stand up and dragged myself to the exit.

“Pathetic wolf-less. You did the right things, Luna. It’s a waste of our resources to let her and her mother stay here.”

The sharpness and disgust in their words were like slashes of knives, but I zoned all of them out.

Now I had a bigger problem than that.

I needed to find a hospital where I can put my mother. With seven days of doses, I can’t be assured.

I had no idea where I would go after leaving this pack, but I needed to get out before Keith fully woke up.
