There’s that moment when nothing makes sense—sitting in a conference room full of strangers talking nonstop while your mind wanders to random things, like counting the number of bald men in the room.
Of course, that usually only happened when my boss was a woman who wore such heavy makeup and red lipstick that she looked like she was running a two-shift-a-day clown show.
I sat back lazily and sighed inwardly. I was wearing tinted spectacles, which gave me the advantage of being able to close my eyes. I drifted off, imagining my soft, comfortable bed with its fresh linens and the fluffy pillows I loved more than anything.
I was supposed to be in an important shareholders' meeting, listening to a board of directors offer their views. I always came prepared for these; my specs shielded me from unnecessary trouble and the need to look at all those weird people—especially our boss, who thought she was the diva of the corporation.
“Our company is the best. Our clients depend on us for nothing but excellence... Gentlemen, we need a strategy to gain more ground and stay on top.”
I sat there, oblivious to what was being said. I could hear an angry voice shouting my name, but I felt like shifting in my sleep. I threw my left leg to the side, and I heard murmurs rising. I muttered something about "old fools needing to get a life" and felt my head drop until it hit something solid.
Ouch.
I reached out blindly and grabbed the nearest thing to lean on. It was the Vice President’s hand—meaty and somehow bony at the same time. I didn’t care; I just muttered again under my breath. I thought I had it all under control until a hand slammed hard on the table right next to my head.
I jumped, rising to my feet so abruptly I nearly fell. I grabbed the back of the Vice President's chair to steady myself and looked around, praying it was all a dream.
“Oh no.”
If only being in the meeting were the dream and I was actually back home in bed. But as my blurry eyes adjusted, my knees weakened. I wasn't in bed. I was definitely in the meeting, and every shareholder was staring at me like I was an alien from Mars. I quickly smoothed out my red floral dress and cleared my throat, my mind racing for an excuse.
“I... well... wow... you look so pretty today, Madam CEO,” I said with a fake, stammering laugh.
The CEO looked at me like a mean witch. Her eyes were glowing a crimson red, making me back away unconsciously.
“What is this, Miss Morgan? Sleeping at work? In the middle of an important meeting?” my boss yelled through gritted teeth. Judging by her tone, I knew I was already fired.
“Miss... I mean, Mrs. Amelia... I wasn't sleeping. I was... napping.”
Oh gosh. Of all the things my brain could come up with, it chose "napping." Sleeping and napping were the same thing. I swallowed hard, fiddling with my hands as they turned cold. Everyone knew Amelia Hawkins was a mean woman. She never smiled; she was like a rock fated to be still. As she glared at me in disdain, I realized I was in deep trouble.
“I will not have you insult my company!” she yelled, finally letting loose. “I forgave you once for being late for your presentation. You practically kidnapped our most important business partner, causing the company losses, and now you’re sleeping in my meeting with our primary shareholders!”
She listed my "felonies" one by one. I’d only been there two months, and I was convinced she only hated me because I was better at her job than she was.
“T...that’s not it—”
“You are fired! Get out of my company!” she cut me off.
How rude, I thought, rolling my eyes.
“You can’t do this. You need me. I’m your best worker,” I said, reminding her that despite what she thought of me, I actually got things done.
“Best worker? Ha!” Amelia mocked. She was hell-bent on humiliating me. Her voice, already an annoying high-pitched squeak, was now reaching a glass-shattering volume. “You are nothing but a pain in the neck. You are worthless!”
I saw the men in the room nodding in agreement, and my blood began to boil. She had no right to talk to me like a slave. Samantha Morgan was no one’s puppet. At twenty-four, I was beautiful and intelligent, while she was just a bitter divorcee.
“If I’m worthless, so are you, Amelia. Just look at you. Your dress is ugly,” I snapped. I watched her expression shift and knew I’d hit a nerve. “I actually feel pity for you. No wonder your husband left. For a CEO, your fashion sense is horrible, that heavy makeup is a disaster, and your hairstyle belongs in the eighties.”
The room went silent, save for a few people muffling their laughter. Amelia was sweating from embarrassment. I smirked, slammed my laptop shut, and tucked it under my arm.
“How dare you insult me, you pathetic, low-class girl! You don’t even deserve to lick my shoes—”
“I quit, you funny clown!” I shouted before she could finish.
I might not have been rich, and I didn't have a mansion, but I had self-respect. I was going to walk out with my dignity intact.
“Out! You’re fired!” she screamed after me as I marched elegantly toward the door.
I went straight to my office to pack. It was sweltering, and I desperately needed a cold drink, but first, I needed a ride. I pulled out my phone to call the person who had found me this "darn job" in the first place.
“Hey Charlie... yeah, your sister got fired for the fifth time. Pick me up ASAP.”
I sent the voicemail knowing my twin brother was busy. He was successful, unlike me, and while he loved me, he was definitely going to scold me for ruining his hard work. I followed up the message with a long paragraph explaining exactly why this wasn't my fault.
“Just great,” I muttered, shoving my belongings into boxes. I wanted to be gone before the clown sent security to throw me out.
Jessy's breathing hyped up. Her body trembled with each kiss. Chase was now naked on top of her. Felt his flesh pressing against hers. She loved everything about Chase. His kisses. How he whispered sweet words to coax her"C-chase" Jessy murmured his name in between kisses. The fire in her body was inextinguishable. She wanted all of him.She had never been in such a situation before. The man always appeared refined and calm. She never thought he could be so naughty"Don't panic…I'm gonna take care of you"Chase murmured, assuring her. She was tense. That he saw. He didn't want her to feel scared. He was there for her"More…Chase" she moaned when he grabbed her breast, Jessy hissed biting her lip when Chase massaged her breasts lovingly. Pinching her aroused nipple between his fingersShe stirred and moved her limbs in a shaking stretch, and her eyes half-opened. "Hey relax sweetheart…" Chase coaxed and reconnoitred his body with an innocent abandon that seduced him utterly. Her lips
After a long day, Jessy and Chase came to the Williams mansion. Luckily, the nanny was with the twins… Jessy knew it was a responsibility Sammy left her with. “Madam… you don't have to worry… they ate…aged a little and fell asleep, “the nanny said, smiling. Jessy scanned the twins and nodded. They seemed fine and tired.“Okay…then I'll retire to my room,” she said and left the bedroom. After taking a shower when they got back. She decided to spend time with the twinsJessy walked down the passageway hesitant to go to her bedroom. She didn't know what to do. This turned out to be more difficult than she imagined “Madam…do you need anything?” the Nanny's voice startled her only to realize she was standing in the hallway, leaning against the wall with eyes closed“Y-yes… umm where is sir?” Jessy asked, hoping Chase had stopped his work and gone to sleep“Sir is still in the study room… Do you want to see him? “the nanny said and Jessy shook her head. “Get some sleep” saying that, Jess
"Aww, congratulations Chris…finally!"Jessy squealed, pulling Chris in for a hug. The newlywed was blushing left and right"Thank you, sweetheart" Chris had no words to express her happiness. All credit went to her father-in-law. This wasn't expected. Getting married to Charlie, however, now she was happy that finally, Charlie belonged to her"It's a shame Sammy wasn't here," Jessy said as both women walked outside the church. "Yeah…that bitch ditched me…oh well…it's worth it, "Chris said feeling happy. This was too good to be true. Looked at her finger. The fact that she was now Mrs Morgan. Married the most caring man that ever lived. Chris couldn't stop blushingAfter a long wedding ceremony. They finally tied the knot. Having to get congratulatory wishes from the guest was something she couldn't resist"So are you going for a honeymoon?"Jessy asked, wondering if Chris wanted to go for a honeymoon. Chris shook her head. Charlie was the one in charge of the company since Dave wasn't
When morning came and the Morgan household was busy making wedding preparations. Shocking news came knocking. The entire house had gathered in the small living room agitatedCharlie and Chris sat together wondering why David and Sammy did something so sickening. Scott was on the verge of having a heart attack if not for Trisha consoling him."That boy…such humiliation," Scott said, biting back anger. His voice was stern and cold. Nothing scared Charlie more than his angry father. Chris knew such times were to be handled cautiously. She solely saluted Dave for being man enough to stand up for his woman however he made a mistake because his father-in-law was fuming and calling some soldiers to go after him."Dad, can you relax okay…you clearly…well pushed Dave to his limits," Charlie said"You stepped on the young man's nerves honey" Trisha added and dropped on the couch. She was against Scott doing anything to Dave however he and his crazy ideas wouldn't be changed by anyone"If not f
“Please pass this information to Mr. Williams and make sure it's sighed,” Charlie said, handing a file to Audrey, the lady, was hesitant, looking at her boss she felt terrible. Charlie, on the other hand, had his eyes fixed on his computer.“Anything else?” Audrey said hesitantly, adjusting her specs she didn't know what to do“No,” Charlie said coldly and Audrey was even more agitated. She knew her boss was angry. For some reason, she wanted him to look at her, so she could apologize.“Sir… I…” Audrey said, fiddling with her fingers. Her host trembling as she tried forming words“Ms. Audrey…next time be mindful when coming to my house…” Charlie said, glancing up and shoving his laptop aside. Audrey nodded nervously.“I'm sorry, sir… I didn't mean to… I thought.”“You should stop it…my woman doesn't like it when other women drop at my place like that,” Charlie said before his secretary could give an excuse why she came to his house in the middle of the night as she did a few days ago.
“Boys, this is my world… I do most work efficiently… I built all this from scratch” Manuel said as he poured Chase and Benjamin some vodka. The men nodded as they sat listening to his story. It was the truth. Manuel wasn't born with a silver spoon, however he worked hard and built his empire from scratch“My dad used to fix cars…he was a mechanic, “Manuel said and sat down. Chase was inspired by the man. He was a perfect role model for young men. Other than that, Chase still didn't know why Manuel chose Benjamin to marry Jessy“Sir… I promise to do everything to make your daughter happy” Benji said with a smile which Chase frowned upon. This was a bad idea. When did all this happens“And you… I heard you are getting married” Manuel said, turning to chase. Lost in thoughts, Chase jerked back to his senses only to realize he was with the company. “Yes sir…the wedding is soon but not yet confirmed”Chase replied, nodding slightly. He wasn't concerned about his marriage. The only thing he
(Sammy POV)“So…what do you think?” he finished his sentence with a click of his index finger on the desk and leaned back in his chair and kept his gaze on me. I stood there pondering over his words. He made a good offer, something which I didn't expect from someone whom I disrespected the other nigh
(Sammy POV)“No, no…no, no… I don't want you here…we made a deal okay…you report to work early at 6AM” the man before me said, shaking his head. I knew dropping at his house's doorstep with my luggage sounded so ridiculous even to myself, but I was left with no choice when my mom gave my room to some
(David POV)I was so frustrated with myself. I never knew being responsible was too tiresome, I was wearing a suit. The so-called necktie around my neck felt like I was being hanged in the cruelest way possible, and sitting in the conference room with several old men as well as women who came smiling
(Sammy's POV)Three days passed, and I was still irritated. Staying at home all day was a pain in the neck, especially when I had a mother like Trisha, she was a greedy woman who loved nice things. Occasionally I wondered how dad tolerated her all for so long. My parents were like my role model, neve
