But it didn’t go the way I had pictured.

I had arrived late to the location—the clearing just in front of the pack house—decked in the best outfit I owned if the hand-me-down could be called that.

Dark jeans that fit perfectly over a red chiffon wrap-round blouse. I had given up the brown top, the color too dull to attract attention, and decided on a vivid red.

Like a moth drawn to a flame, my eyes had searched him, finding him seated in the front with the alpha and other highly placed wolves.

They were all conversing in low tones when someone said something funny, and he burst out laughing, his shoulders shaking at every move. My eyes narrowed, my fingers twitching as I observed him.

Maybe he wasn’t laughing as hard as I had imagined, but it was difficult seeing him so happy when he had stood me up.

A fierce wave of jealousy came over me as I watched the reaction, my fist tightening even more as I continued to stare. Only I should bring out such character in him.

“Raya!” A voice yelled, and I turned to see Thalia furiously waving me over to the seat she had saved for me. I glanced back at my mate, who was still oblivious to my stares, or he was just good at pretending I didn’t exist.

I was only seconds from matching here and sitting beside him, especially as the alpha’s daughter was getting too comfortable with him, but it would only cause trouble.

Giving him another once-over, I made my way to where Thalia was, and I sat in the empty seat.

“I saved a seat for you.” She announced, panting like she had just won a marathon, and I smiled. Thalia was trouble wrapped in pretty brown eyes and flawless skin. Her sharp tongue was only tolerated because of her charm.

I dumped myself on the seat provided, my glare still on the man that had decided I didn't exist. My wolf, the quiet one inside me, had been trying to reassure me, but I refused to be reasonable.

I had pretty much tuned out all that our alpha was saying, even when he introduced the guest. My fury was already rising inside, bubbling like a large pot of stew cooking, and it was just a little left before it completely tipped over.

If my mate wasn’t going to give me attention, I was going to march over there and kiss him before declaring that we are mates.

“Geez, Raya, you have been eyeing that alpha like a smoked piece of meat. I am surprised he hasn’t combusted already.” Thalia chirped beside me, wriggling her brows, and I gasped.

“Thalia!” I slapped her shoulders, flushing hard. “I wasn’t staring at him; I was only trying to listen to what the alpha was saying.”

“Girl, I don’t have heightened senses for a reason, and you are my friend. I know, so spill.”

I thought over it for a moment. Thalia had been my best friend since I was born, the only one who truly understood my plight, and it was only right that she know.

Yet, there was a little moment where everything seemed to be distrusting. My mate—I didn’t even know his name—had not yet said anything about me, even though he had expressed his pleasure in seeing me; he had stood me up twice and barely acknowledged me.

I wasn’t going to claim someone that hadn’t yet laid claim to me.

“He is just—” I began, wanting to give a vague response to my reaction to the man, merely dismissing it as a crush, but the air suddenly stilled around me.

My eyes swiped across to him just in time to see him rising from his seat, his eyes locking on me, and I inhaled sharply.

He was such a crowd puller, that mate of mine. His rising up had caused a stir among the people, both men and women alike. They leaned forward, as if pulled by gravity, but I was no better.

I stared at him like he was indeed a piece of meat, only I wanted to hump this particular one.

“I am Micah Draven, the alpha of the Grimhowl pack,” he began, his voice ringing loud and clear, and I nodded.

“Micah, Micah.” I tested his name on my lips, loving the way it fits on my tongue. “Micah,” just perfect for moaning.

His eyes cut to mine, as if reading my thoughts, and I would have sworn he winked at me, but his gaze was gone from mine before I could process it, and he continued talking.

“We are a closed pack, yet our search for the one fated for us has taken us across the world, and at last, it has brought us here. I am pleased to say our mission has been richly rewarded.”

My breath hitched, my fingers worrying the fabric of my top. Was he truly doing what I think he was doing?

Was he truly going to announce our joining before everyone gathered here? My stomach knotted as I imagined the stunned faces that would follow Micah’s words.

He didn’t even keep me guessing for long, because his mouth opened, announcing me to the world and to anyone that cares to listen, all with a smile on his face.

“Ryan, please.” He beckoned unto me, but I was already standing up before the words finished leaving his lips, enchanted by this fellow.

I glided through the crowd, ignoring the murmurs that arose as I passed, and I finally stood beside him.

Micah gently wrapped his hands around mine, completely enveloping them, and my lips parted as a sharp jolt crawled up my spine. The electricity pulsed between us, crackling bigger and bigger until it consumed us whole.

He angled his head towards me, his lips slowly revealing in a smile, and I rewarded him with a wide one of my own.

“Ladies and gentlemen. I would like to present Ryan Everhart, my mate.”

  • Seeking the Love of an Alpha   Chapter 100

“We are here.” Rowan announced over the soft noise of the music from the radio, and I tried to look at the ‘here’ through the window. It was a tall white building, its many floors impossible to count from inside the car, but from what little I could see, it was beautiful.Rowan opened his door and came out, coming to mine, and he opened it, helping me out. My breath hitched, not from the sparks or electricity running through us, but from a familiarity that felt dangerously inviting, and I took another deep breath.Goddess, help me.He gave his keys to the valet, and we entered the building, straight to an elevator.I stood rigid as the elevator began to move, my heart racing so loud I could hear it. Despite that I was a wolf, I had a phobia of heights, and it was even worse that I was in an enclosed metal contraption that was going as fast as it could, yet there seemed to be no end.“Are you alright?” Rowan’s voice broke through the daze, and I stared at him with wide eyes.“Hmm?” My

Somehow, the month had flown by in a flurry of activities, most of them far too loud for me, but I endured it for the extra cash. The overly bright decoration, annoying music about a fucking sleigh, and even annoying humans scattered about in red, white, and green clothes were too much, but I had passed through the hurdle. And overall, it had been a great month, with a lot of tips, and right now I was standing in front of my wardrobe, not that it could be called so. The dark brown construction was already falling apart, the door barely closed, and it only contained a few of my clothes. My eyes scanned what little I had, trying to find a suitable outfit that would fit the party. I mean, what do humans even wear when they go to parties?I wouldn’t want to stand out too much, especially with so many of them there, and I wanted to enjoy myself without worrying about what I had on.An annoyed sigh left my lips, and I padded to my bed, reaching for my phone that was lying in the middle, and

I froze as I felt the foreign sensation on my lips. It was warm and inviting, but when the soft press of his lips on mine finally registered, my hands came between us, and I pushed him off gently.“You can’t do that.” I croaked out in a voice that betrayed what I was feeling. But what exactly was I feeling? However, Rowan's voice broke the daze before I could contemplate it too much. “I am sorry; I was carried away.” He apologized, but there was a mischievous glint in his eyes that may as well have said he was not at all sorry, and I wasn’t sure what to feel.“Y-yea.” I croaked, but I cleared my throat, blinking as if to clear the coating of redness that had spread on my cheeks, and I waved it aside. “It is alright; let us just go.”We walked side by side, the silence thick enough for a knife to slice through, but I was too in my head to care about it. Why the hell would he kiss me? The thought kept running through my head, yet no answers were forthcoming, and I blew a breath of frus

I was excited, oddly enough. It was weird that I was going out with someone I barely knew a week ago, and it was even weirder that I had never stepped out of the regular cycle of work and home.Yet here I was excited to go on a date with a man. Okay, it wasn’t a date; we were only going to get a phone together, and it was enough for me to shiver in my boots.By 3pm, I was ready, dressed in one of my new acquisitions: black jeans with thigh-high boots, a wine sleeveless top, and a woolen sweater. Nothing too much, but not so bad that I end up looking like a slob. I ran a tube of red lipstick on my lips, took one look at it in the hand mirror I had, and swiped my palm at it.I shouldn’t be doing too much; after all, it wasn’t a date. We were just going to get a phone for myself.Right on cue, a knock sounded on my door, causing my heart to skip a beat despite itself, and I held a palm to the treacherous organ, willing it to be still.I rose, picking up the small mirror I kept on the be

Rowan froze mid-scroll the moment he saw me, his phone instantly forgotten. He raised his eyes to meet mine, pressing the power button without taking his gaze away.A gasp caught in my throat as those brown eyes beheld me, the truth in them almost frightening. Hastily, I placed the tray down, putting down his food, and he offered me a smile, one that made the side of his eyes crinkle.“This looks good.” He said, nodding in approval, and I beamed, standing straighter.“It even tastes better.” I replied, and he gave me a small smile before taking a fork and picking up the pasta. I watched as he brought it to his mouth, his eyes widening as he got a first taste, and I almost pumped my fist in the air at his reaction.“You like it?”Rowan chewed slowly, savoring every bite, and he shook his head. “I lovee it.” He drawled, his voice excited and slightly high, and my smile widened even more.I gave myself a mental pat on the back. The creamy tomato rigatoni could never go wrong, not with th

My breath hitched at the reason he had come, though I wasn’t sure I truly hated the way it made me feel. However, I drew in a slow breath, schooled my face, and positioned my pen ready to take his order.“What would you like?” I asked, keeping my voice steady so I didn’t give anything away, and his eyes racked through me slowly, as if I were the menu.My skin bristled, and I was unsure what to feel when he stared at me like I was the only thing that mattered, but thank the goddess for the notepad in my hands, and I clutched it hard as I waited for him.“Hmmm.” He hummed, running a hand over his jaw as his long fingers flexed slightly. For a man, his fingers were well manicured, no cuticle in sight, trimmed short even and I nodded in approval. At least he was neat. “Surprise me.”“Surprise you?” My eyebrow pulled together, and I tilted my head. “I am no chef; I am just a server.” I reminded him, but his lips had pulled slightly in a grin, and he shrugged.“It doesn’t matter; you are th
