Chapter 6

It has been a Minute since I have walked on my feet. I felt as if I was taking my first steps again. My balance was wobbly. I slowly walked to the mirror while holding the walls. I steadied myself in front of it, and looked at the clear reflection of myself. I stood 4’8 tall. I am shorter than Kilian by 2inches. I have blue eyes, and caramel brown skin. My shoulders are broad. My chest is just starting to grow. My figure is not skinny. I have muscles in all the right places. I was buff for my age. That came with being a werewolf. High metabolism. My nose is round with rosy cheeks besides it. My lips are small. I have no real body features yet. because I am not done growing yet. I was in awe of myself. I looked at my ears and tail. My ears are grayish white with a black outline. My tail is the same white with a little black dot at the tip of it. I am a gray wolf after all.

I went back to the couch, and got under the cover. I was tired from the events of today. So much stuff has happened. I was bought, and given to a child my own age… I sang a lot… I fell on my butt which still hurts… and now… I have to live in a closet. I cried tears as sounds of sadness Escaped my mouth. I want to go home. I want to see my mother and father. I wanted Richard. He was my bestest friend in the whole world. We grew up together… he was the boy I was pretroved to be. We were supposed to be the first to create our pack’s new generation. The alpha law was that whoever was alpha would have at least 1 child, and at most 5. The eldest was to become the next alpha, while the other siblings got to marry whoever they wanted. Our genetics were so strong that even if we had kids with another race, our childrens would still be werewolves. The only reason it mattered that an alpha married another werewolf was because it made the children stronger than the rest of the pack. My mother even told me that our pack started from a man who was blessed by the moon. She told me the history of how our pack came to be when I was young.

“His name was Leto,” Mother said as I laid next to her in the forest with my head on her lap. It was a normal night. Our pack had built homes in the forest by our cave. We were far from any cities, so we were never bothered. I was the youngest of our pack, but I was not the only child. While father hunted with the pack males, the females would protect the house dens, and the children. We had started a fire, as we sat around it to hear my mother’s story.

“He was a human who was outcast by his own people. He was not wanted because he had differences that made him stand out.” Mother spoke with sorrow in her voice as if she felt pity for Leto.

“He had knowledge, skills, and senses unheard of. Some would say he was the black sheep of the world.” Mother stroked my hair as she spoke.

“He ended up making a home in our forest. The one we live in now.” Mother smiled at the kids. She was proud of our home. It was a beauty unseen.

“One night as he was hunting for food, he wandered across our lake.” I looked up at her in confusion.

“Yes darling, lake moonlight.” My mother always knew what I was saying without me speaking a word.

“It was the night of a full moon, so he could see very clearly. There was a lady yelling for help. She was stuck between some floating logs.” The children gasped at the history lesson. Some even asked what happened next.

“ It seemed as though she could not free herself. Our ancestor jumped in after her without a second thought. He used his intelligence, strength, and senses to get her free.” I sat up from her lap. Why would he risk his life for a stranger. Mother smiled at me, and whinked.

“ It is said he worked from the time the moon rose to the time it fell to free her. When he brought the woman to land…” Mother stood up, and pointed to the moon above. It was winking at us too.

“She thanked him with a kiss, and spoke these words.. ‘ For your bravery, and skills unparalleled to this world, I grant you a gift to be free, and true to yourself every night like tonight.’ “Mother turned back to face us as she whispered the next part.

“When he turned to face the woman… All he saw was the moon light shining where the woman once stood. He did not know her gift until the next full moon, where he became a wolf.” Mother howled aloud, and so did we. We all laughed after. She quieted us down, and continued.

“When he changed back to human form, he learned he was forever blessed with a tail and ears to signify that he was blessed by the moon.” My mind thought of how peaceful it was that night. I wondered if Richard could save me. If he would come for me. I knew if he was still alive, he’d never give up looking for me. But I also knew all of my pack was dead… Including Richard. My cries got louder. I did not want to be alone. I grabbed the corner of the cover, and tightened it around me.

“Mother! Father! Why did you leave me! Why did you have to die!?” I did not howl my words. I knew the words I was speaking, but I did not know the language I was saying. Was this the English my father used? I did not speak when in this form, because I never needed to. Mother and father talked to people for me. I was always quiet till full moon, when I would sing as we ran through the trees.

“Are you okay?!” The door swung open without hesitation. I was Mortified. Kilian had come in without knocking. I looked up at him. What do I do now? Kilian could see me in my werewolf form.

‘I did not know you could speak english. I heard you crying.’ He walked towards the couch.

‘I need a little help Lyra… your scent is… it’s different… it smells… of human blood…’ My body started to sweat as fear paralyzed me.
