Chapter 13: Into the Lair (5)

Tori was sleeping quietly and I was feeling guilty for not bringing him with me but my son's safety was my priority. I didn't think that Josephine would endanger him, at least I know she would not harm a child.

She might have been bickering a lot with Tori before the tiger transformation incident but it was obvious that she cared for him since I saw how persistent she became to check on Tori's health. I lived together with Josephine these past few months so I could say that I was able to read her seemingly awkward actions a bit — well, that was what I thought not until a few hours ago.

I know nothing about her at all except that she sure knows something and she chose not to reveal it to me.

I carefully closed the door and walked toward the exit as stealthily as possible but I guess luck was not on my side. There were approaching footsteps as hushed voices became louder.

I quickly hid behind a wall and perked up my ears to eavesdrop.
