The thunder rumbled loudly as Helen whimpered. It had become very dark, she had hidden herself after the fight.
She felt bad for fighting that way. She had been stressed from running too many laps before the fight. She wanted to stay home and rest but her mum had forced her to the field saying she had to train harder.
She was just going to do a little since it was a new girl she was paired with but when the girl landed a blow to her stomach. Her mum had mind-linked her telling her the Beta was watching her.
She didn't want to seem like a weakling, it was a privilege that the beta taught her privately. She didn't want to bring shame to him so she transformed and charged at the girl. Helen didn't expect her not to transform, that's why she kept coming at her.
It felt as if she was in rage, she suddenly couldn't see clearly as she tasted the girl's blood. It tasted sweet and she wanted more, she didn't know what happened, and only when she saw Kendrick's blood did she calm down.
The thunder rumbled again shaking the lockers, the school was very quiet. While everyone rushed to the girl's aid, she ran away to hide in shame. She mindlinked her mum but her mum had cut it even before she could say anything.
While hiding in the locker, she heard some girls talking about how she was probably the one killing the Pack members.
She felt so lonely and scared, a glance at the window revealed it was dark and she trembled, she couldn't sleep at school. It wasn't safe.
Stepping away from the lockers, she moved to the window, it was about to rain, and she had to run home before the rain started. Opening the window, she stepped out and closed it gently, making sure not to make a sound.
She mindlinked her mum and she cut it off again, a whimper escaped her lips and she burst into tears. She sobbed loudly as she ran home, the wind blew violently as she ran, struggling to stand upright.
Her house was far away and she could barely see anything. She ran blindly, hitting her face on some branches.
A howl sounded a little too close and she froze. She looked at the dark sky and tried mindlinking her mum again.
Her heart was beating so fast she couldn't concentrate. Regaining her composure, she continued to run.
"Moon god..go..dess. Moon goddess, please, I don't want to die," she prayed as she ran. Her legs became weak as she slowed down. She could see her house. It was lit up. She was almost there.
"I can do this," she whispered, shaking in fear. She walked carefully, placing her steps one after the other to avoid making a noise. She was almost there.
A movement caught her eye and she paused. Her heart was pumping very fast, the wind blew, pouring sand in her eye. She shut her eyes as she continued to walk.
The movement in the bush didn't stop. It moved as slowly as she did and she cried again. She opened her eyes after the wind stopped blowing wildly and looked at the bush. It was still.
Perhaps she only imagined it. She walked faster, rummaging her hands in her bag to find her keys in case the door was locked. She found it and raised it hoping it wouldn't make a noise.
She was directly in front of her house now.
A wolf howled and she turned around. The key dropped from her hands as she took in the sight.
The wolf was standing a few distance away from her. She couldn't see it but she could make out the shape. It looked oddly familiar, it was the size of a small horse... Its head was hairy and its red eyes shone in the dark.
It looked menacing. She backed up, moving with her back to the door. Her hand touched something and she almost squealed when she realized it was the door knob.
The wolf dropped from the hill where it stood and walked so slowly towards her. She watched as she peed her pants. She steadied her hands on the knob and turned it praying it opened.
It didn't bulge. She realised with a jolt that it was locked, adrenaline rushing into her, she turned and banged on the door screaming very loudly.
Her wolf howled as she transformed involuntarily. She howled loudly again as she banged her body against the door. She opened the mindlink and screamed with all urgency. "Mum!!!!!"
The mindlink opened and she ran away, hiding her body in the shadows. Her wolf shook, wanting to go back.
There was something familiar about the wolf. She could tell it was a male... He smelt familiar but she couldn't place it.
The front door suddenly opened, she paused as she heard footsteps, it was her mum.
"Helen?" Her mum called out, she could hear her footsteps coming towards her.
"No... Don't come!" She called out but her mum ignored it and found her.
"Let's go inside," she whispered, dragging her.
"He's here, the wolf is here," Helen muttered. It was going to kill them.
"Let's go!" Her mum snapped pulling her paw, she transformed into her human form and followed slowly behind her mum. They went to the front door and peeped. Helen couldn't see the Wolf again.
"It's gone," her mum whispered and pushed her into the house, Helen held the door open as she waited for her mum to enter, she turned to face her, giving her a big smile, she placed a leg inside and Helen gasped as the wolf charged at her mum.
"Mum!!" She shouted as she slammed the door shut, locking her mum outside.
She heard a bone crack and she heard her mum yelp in pain.
"Mum!" She screamed as she stood up to open the door. It didn't bulge as she tried.
"I love you, Helen. I love you!" Her mum called out to her as she heard a snap and a deafening silence followed.
She knew without a doubt that her mum had died, she dropped her bag and fell to the ground.
Her head was pounding very loudly, and unable to keep her eyes open she slipped into the darkness, letting it embrace her.
"You are awake," Collon's voice rang out through the dark room as Alpha Elton's eyes fluttered open."Where am I?" Alpha Elton? he asked, his eyes roaming the room, but no matter how he looked, he couldn't see anything in the darkness. "You can't even recognise your room?" Collon chuckled, a tone devoid of any amusement; instead, it was hollow and eerie. "Well, I brought you back to your room. Away from your beloved Kenderick. Here, where we can talk. Just us, since he hates you too much to be in your personal space." "If only he knew how much you paid to protect him." He added, his voice sounding sharper as he glared into the darkness. Alpha Elton tried to sit up, but a sharp pain pierced through his body. He let out a groan and fell back down as he looked in the direction Collon's voice was coming from. "What do you want to talk about?" "A lot of things," Collon inhaled deeply. "Do you know how hard it was to pretend all these years? To call you ‘Father’ like it meant something?
"Every time I see you, you are always distressed," Jasmine mumbled as she stood beside Kenderick with a large book under her arms while they both watched the warriors training. "I'm not distressed," Kenderick replied, his voice a little sharper than usual. As if sensing his defensive tone, he cleared his throat and added. "I'm a little distracted but not distressed." "You are distressed," Jasmine replied. "I don't know how, but I can feel it when I'm close to you. I can feel your shift in moods. The last time you were at the bakery, you were annoyed. Wait a minute, I've never actually felt a positive emotion from you. Why?" "Are you here to see your sister?" He asked, subtly changing the topic. "Do you often come here to watch her train?" "You are changing the topic," Jasmine pointed out. "But I understand you. I wouldn't feel comfortable if a stranger walked up to me to talk about my moods." "You are not a stranger, though," he corrected while Jasmine shrugged."You mean not ent
"And why are we discussing choosing a new Alpha?" Kendrick questioned, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the room."Our Alpha is recovering well. He was awake for a brief moment yesterday, and Nancy said he'll be fine in a month's time," he paused, noting the carefully blank expressions on the faces of the elders and others seated around the conference table."Is there something I am missing here?""There's nothing you are missing," Elder Ambrose replied with a tight smile. "Although it breaks my heart to do this, it is what we have to do.""Why?" Kendrick repeated. "I still don't understand the reason behind the sudden need for a new Alpha.""None of this is sudden," Elder Lydia answered with a sigh. "The proposal for appointing a new Alpha had already been made before Alpha Elton got poisoned. In fact, the poisoning case delayed it.""You wanted to impeach the previous Alpha? That's surprising," he scoffed. "If that's the case, we should probably start searching for those who will fi
"Thank you, Beta Kendrick!" The grey-haired woman dropped to her knees, bowing so low her forehead touched the dirt. Her shoulders trembled as she sobbed, her face streaked with tears and snot while she clung to his ankles, stopping him from escaping as he had been doing the past few days."If not for you… My son would’ve been executed for something he didn’t do." She cried, her voice hoarse from how much she had cried and shouted after him. "After losing my husband just months ago, I... I couldn’t have survived losing him too.""I'm forever grateful to you!" Kendrick stiffened as he felt her hands around his ankle. He groaned, unsure what to do as the woman wept at his feet. Before he could utter a word, another figure rushed forward."You saved my daughter too!" Another woman joined, kneeling beside the first, with a basket of freshly picked fruits clutched to her chest. Her face glowed red from excitement or embarrassment, and her hands trembled slightly as she held the basket out
"No wonder everyone is talking about the soufflés!" Xander exclaimed between bites, his cheeks bulging as he chewed the dessert. "Although it doesn't taste like that of your mother, the taste and texture are quite close." "It tastes good," Kendrick agreed as he took another small bite from his serving. "Do you think they changed the baker? The last baker's soufflés were the least liked dessert in the bakery," Xander mused."Yeah, they have a new assistant baker; she was employed based on her soufflé skills, and she just happened to be the one who served us," Ava replied as she cut into her chocolate mousse. "And you know that because?""It was just by the way; I was doing some checks on Kayla, who happened to be her sister," Ava replied with a shrug. Before Xander could ask the obvious question, she continued."Kayla applied to join my team. She's got the skill of a trained warrior; she's got the instinct and awareness. And that's unsettling somehow." "How is that unsettling?" Da
"Can I get a pack of macarons and two packs of croissants?" Asked a silver‑haired man, his brows and eyelashes the same silvery shade, while Jasmine stood behind the counter, gently sipping natural mango juice after her morning shift."Coming right up," she murmured, trying not to spill as she reached around the service area."Take your time; I’m not in a rush," he added with a gentle chuckle. His eyes crinkled at her worried smile."Sorry… So that’s one pack of macarons and two packs of croissants. Right?" she confirmed, beginning to box the order. She stole glances at him as she worked.Noticing, he laughed softly. "Planning to ask if it’s natural or dyed?""I don’t mean to be rude," she flushed, embarrassed at being caught. “It’s just… you look different.”He raised an eyebrow, tilting his head. “Different how?”“Oh! Not in a weird way,” she hurriedly corrected. “You’re different—beautifully different. The blue in your eyes shines against your silver hair. It’s relaxing. It makes p
