I plopped onto the furthest mattress and took off my shoes, making it obvious I wasn’t going anywhere for a while. Nathan growled at the way I easily let my guard down around someone who was still technically a stranger, and I found it comforting he was as hesitant to trust her as much as I was.

But he had enough paranoia for the both of us at the moment. Maybe it was something about the caged animal, but Nathan did not like being put in a small room with someone untrustworthy.

Nina took the other bed and did the same to her shoes. She hauled her own backpack on the bed and reached inside. Nathan growled again at her actions,
