Cass's POV

I grabbed the man by the collar and dragged him away from Sage. His feet scraped against the wooden floor, and he struggled against my grip, but I was stronger. I was faster. I threw him against the nearest wall, and his back hit the wood with a satisfying crack.

"You will not disrespect her," I said, my voice low and shaking with rage. "You will not speak to her. You will not look at her. Do you understand me?"

The man laughed. It was a wet, ugly sound. "Or what? You will hit me? G

Kael's POV I stepped out of the lab and walked along the hallway, my mind still spinning from everything Vex had shown me. The crystal sat in its containment box, glowing faintly, while behind the reinforced glass of another chamber, the virus pulsed and writhed like something alive. Vex had explained the molecular similarities, the way the crystal's energy could theoretically neutralize the virus if properly processed. But theoretically was not good enough. Not when my father was lying in a bed, waiting to die."Can you create the cure with this?" I had asked.Vex had looked at me with that frustratingly honest expression of his. "I am not sure yet. It will take a series of trials. Errors. Adjustments. This is not something I can solve overnight."I did not have time for trials and errors. My father did not have time. Every day we spent in this community was another day he grew weaker. Another day closer to the end. But Vex was right. The crystal was the only solution we had now. I

He looked past me at Sage, and his smile widened. "Look at her. Standing there like she is worth something. Trying to act like she is not just a hole for you to fill. Is that it? Are you fucking her? Maybe I should get a taste too. She looks like she needs a real man."I punched him in the face. His head snapped back and hit the wall. Blood sprayed from his nose, and his eyes rolled back for a moment before focusing on me again. He was unconscious. B

Cass's POVI sat in the meeting room, my body still sore from the punches Vex had landed on me the day before. The bruises on my face had faded overnight, but the shame in my chest remained fresh and raw. Kael sat beside me, completely healed. Vex sat beside Sage, and he had not looked or spoken to me since.Sage's eyes fixed on Elder Tomas. She had not acknowledged any of us when she walked in. She simply took her seat and waited for the meeting to begin, her face a mask of cold professionalism. Elder Tomas stood at the head of the table, his weathered hands resting on the wood. His face was grave, and the other elders beside him wore matching expressions of disappointment and anger."I am very disappointed," Elder Tomas said, his voice carrying through the room. "Someone among our people is betraying us. Someone has been smuggling crystals out of the Caverns of Ash and providing them to outsiders. This is not a small crime. This is a betrayal of everything our community stands for.

Vex's POVI waited for her answer, my heart pounding in my chest. The seconds stretched out like hours.Milo looked at me with those dark, knowing eyes. "Aunt Sage did not tell me everything in full details. She only said that she had a huge fight with you three men a long time ago, and that things ended badly. But I am not a baby. I can figure things out on my own."I raised an eyebrow. "And what do you think happened?"Milo crossed her small arms over her chest. "I think that the three of you were fighting over who would get to be with her. And since she did not choose any of you, you all threw a fit and did something to hurt her. You all broke her heart."I stared at her. Her assumption was so far from the actual truth that it was almost laughable. But at the same time, she said something innocent and yet painfully accurate.I rarely laughed. It was not something I did often, or well. But hearing this child, this seven-year-old girl, lay out her theory about adult drama with such c

Vex's POVI could not believe what I had just heard. The words echoed in my head, bouncing off the walls of my skull, refusing to settle into any kind of logical order."Why did you do that?" I demanded, my voice low and dangerous. "Why did you ruin her life? She did nothing to you. Nothing."I was aware of the workers and other people in the waiting room staring at us, their eyes wide, their mouths open. I did not care. This was between me and Cass.Cass lay on the floor, his nose bleeding, his eyes fixed on the ceiling. "I was foolish," he said. "I made a stupid mistake. I was jealous that my mate did not belong to me alone. I could not stand the thought of sharing her with you and Kael. So I thought that if you and Kael rejected her, if her reputation was destroyed, she would have no one left but me. I could have her for myself."I punched him again. My fist connected with his jaw, and his head snapped to the side. He did not try to block it. He just took it, like he had been waiti

  • Shattered by three, claimed by none   Chapter 32: What the fuck did you do

Vex's POVI sat in the hard wooden chair, my eyes fixed on the door that led to Kael's room. Cass sat beside me, his elbows on his knees, his head bowed. In the waiting room, the clock on the wall ticked loudly, marking the passage of time that felt far too slow.Kael was not someone who could be hurt to the point of hospitalization. He was an Alpha. His healing was superior to most wolves. For him to be lying in a bed with cracked ribs and a possible spinal injury, something significant had happened in that cavern. Something between him and Sage. I did not know what, and the not knowing gnawed at me like a persistent itch I could not scratch. But at least there had been progress in the investigation. The guide's revelation about the smuggled crystals was a significant piece of the puzzle. Someone in this community was working with the perpetrator, enabling the creation of the virus. I would find out who. And I would also find another cure, one that did not involve a child. Milo deser
