Alan’s hand falls off my face and he rushes towards Ethan. But Ethan shuts the door again. And locks it.
Alan’s palms are curled in fists as he stands there, pitch silent. I swallow and move closer, until I’m standing right in front of the door—beside him.
I look up at him for a brief moment but he doesn’t even spare me a glance.
“Ethan?” I call out in a sing-song, facing the door. I wait for a few seconds. I’m about to call out his name again when the door creaks open a little and Ethan’s small head pops out. My heart constricts a little and I crouch down, asking him,
“Can I come in?”
He takes a while, then nods.
“Ethan.” Alan’s voice booms, startling us both. Ethan looks up at him.
“Can I come in too?” Alan asks, and I can tell he’s struggling to say it calmly. Ethan shakes his head, then pulls me in with his both hands.
I pretend to have been forced in because of his grip, then when we’re both in, I peek through the door.
Alan starts to push the door open. I push back hard.
“Stop!” I whisper. “Please respect the fact that he doesn’t want to… uh, talk right now. I promise, I’ll make sure to know what’s up with him. Okay?”
He’s not buying it. “I need to see my son.” He tries to push again. I can tell he’s not even using much strength, but I’m still struggling behind the door.
“Sir!”
He stops pushing now, then spins around and storms off.
I finally shut the door when he disappears around the corner, letting out a deep breath. The room is pitch dark. My eyes fill with moisture. Why would such a little boy be so comfortable in this darkness? I’m still scared of the dark at my age, I can’t imagine…
I sniff.
“Oh Ethan… where are you?” I call out in a breezy, soft singsong. I hear a giggle. It’s quiet, almost missable. But it’s there. My lips twitch.
“Oh Ethan, I’m coming to get you…” I start to tiptoe. The giggle is louder this time. And yes, Ethan is a real smart kid so he turns his Kaio necklace upside down.
It’s harder to find him now, but I follow the sound of his footsteps—which he tries to make as quiet as possible.
Ethan is smart. The only way I can catch him is by outsmarting him. So I stop in my tracks. I let him move around for a bit, then I start moving. I hear him move too, but I’ve come too close.
His shriek rings across the room when my palm wraps around his arm, pulling him to me. We’re on the floor in no time, laughing hysterically.
I carefully ask now, “Alright, alright… now can we turn on the light, big boy?”
Silence for a while, then I feel his nod. Letting out a breath of relief, I go over to the switch and flick it on.
Ethan is still sitting where he is, his hair a mess for the first time since I’ve known him. That was me, I think, wondering if Alan would like that. There’s a lot of prim and proper in this house.
“What do you want to do now?” I ask Ethan, and he shrugs. I look around his almost empty room for the first time, cringing.
“We’ll get you more… fun things for this room. Won’t you like that?”
He shrugs again. I sigh. Then I see a scrabble set and I turn to him.
“You play scrabble?”
“Yes.” He mutters with a small smile.
Oh wow.
For the next thirty minutes, Ethan goes head to head with me at the scrabble. He gets sleepy, so I get him some snacks and watch him eat before he goes to have a nap.
I don’t know why, but I step out of Ethan’s room and start to look for Alan’s. I want to talk to him. Scold him, even. Ethan’s room is barely a child’s room. Now I understand why he’d left it dark… there’s barely anything to look at. Even if it’s temporary, at least there can be some Christmas cheer?
I know it’s not really my place to say anything about all this, but my heart just aches for that little boy. I need to speak to his grumpy dad.
I walk around until I decide I won’t be able to locate his room myself. I’m about to turn around and head back when a door opens. I swivel back around to meet my boss’s piercing gaze.
“How’s my son?” His tone is sharp, demanding.
I straighten, “Uh… good. At least he’s good now. He seemed a little moody before, though. He barely speaks too, even if he looks like he has a lot to say. He just stares at me, smiles rarely… he’s going through something. Have you bothered to ask, Sir? Have you—”
“Ms Reina Summers.” The blast of his voice makes me go mute. He continues, “You seem to always see the need to lecture me. It’s still early, and I can still let you go… but at your own detriment. You’d be owing me everything I’ve paid you upfront and a bit more for wasting my time. It’s stated in the contract. Is that what you want? To be dismissed?”
I didn’t even realize he’d gotten so close. He was not the only one with a labored breathing too. We both had our chests heaving up and down.
“I don’t…” I bite the inside of my cheek. I need to choose my words carefully. Yes, I care a lot about Ethan, but he’s right. Loosing this job at this moment would be at my detriment. “I’m not trying to be disrespectful, Sir, and I apologize if I have come across as disrespectful in any way. I just… Ethan seems so lonely, I wish you could get through to him somehow. I have ideas, I could help you. I’m not saying you’ve not been doing a good job, but you can… you can do much better. That’s all I’m saying.”
He lets out a sigh. There’s silence for a long while, and then he steps back. “I appreciate your care for Ethan. And I’m not blind, I see that he fancies you. You can keep him happy, make him smile with your kindness and love. But let this be the very last time you open that pretty mouth and try to lecture me on dos and don’ts around my son. Are we clear, Belle?”
I swallow. No, not at all.
I nod regardless.
He frowns. “Words.”
“Clear.” I almost roll my eyes. He notices my sauciness, of course, nothing really gets past this man. I see a ghost of a smirk on his lips, but it quickly goes away.
Alan gives me a quick once over. I feel my cheeks flush when he looks back up at my face.
“From tomorrow, you’ll be on uniform like the rest of the staff. You’ll take the uniform from my room, by noon.”
From his room? I don’t get to ask anything, because he walks off at once.
REINATHREE DAYS AFTER…I’m deep in sleep, snuggling into my duvet even more as the cold outside becomes more unbearable.Suddenly, my door creaks open. It’s quiet, slow. I snap my eyes open, high at alert. I don’t expect the figure that walks into the room, clad in only boxers that outline a very hard dick.Alan stands by the door for long seconds, watching me as closely as I watch him. His hair is a rough, yet sexy pile on his head, and his upper body is a taunt at me, religiously defined. Alan’s gray eyes glisten with mischief and I just lie there, my pussy fluttering at just the sight of him.I haven’t really had time to think of sex before… not until I met Alan. Now I think of sex all the time. What it would feel like to have a man like Alan situated between my legs, fucking me to the point of no return.Okay, maybe not to that point, but.“S-Sir?”“Tell me to leave. Do the right thing and send me out, Reina.” His voice alone travels all the way to my center, and I hate myself in
REINA“When can we have another karaoke night, Reina?” Ethan’s voice makes me look up from the plant I’m watering with a start. He’s rushing into the garden where I stand above Japanese maples, holding a watering can. It’s the next day after the most wholesome karaoke night ever. Even I want a repeat, but I doubt we’d get it anytime soon. I let my lips quirk up in a smile, almost mirroring the grin his face is lit up with.He stops right in front of me and I switch the watering can from right to left hand so I can gently ruffle his hair. I squint in the sun, watching his bright eyes burn with excitement.“Someone’s excited.” I rather note, switching hands again so I can continue to water the maples. They’re growing so beautifully, it’s always a new sprout whenever I come back out here. Ethan looks as entranced with the plant as I am.He replies, “Dad called at my lesson. It was fun.”Warmth spreads across my chest. “That’s really nice, E.”“He said he’ll be back early to spend time wi
ALANI drove into my driveway last minute.I truly had a long meeting. I decided to send everyone home before we could conclude on everything, rescheduling the final meeting tomorrow. Her message did it for me. Reina had typed; ‘With all due respect, Mr King, do you really want to let your own son down today? I know you have work, I know it’s important to you and all, but you have a family.. a son back here too. He needs you. Nothing would make Ethan happier than seeing you tonight. I’m not trying to take anyone’s place like you always tell me. I’m only trying to help here. Ethan could heal so much faster if you’re by his side. You have to be here. We’re starting by 8pm. You can come in thirty minutes late? Or not. Just… please be here Sir. Please.’Had me bobbing my knee up and down under the table while everyone shared opinions and traded ideas. I got sick of pretending to listen at a point, that was when I called it a night.Stepping out of my SUV to hear her voice blessing a song
REINAI have no idea how I’m going to convince Alan to join karaoke night, but I know it has to happen. I promised. Even if he only stays for one minute, just to hear Ethan out. That’s all I need.“This was a really bad idea.” I turn to the sound of Thelma’s voice. She goes on to say, “Not the karaoke night, of course, we already had that planned out. The part where Alan’s gong to be attending. You know that’s not happening, right? There’s no way that man is gonna join us in the living room, singing our hearts out to Olivia Rodrigo songs. I’m sure he has tons of more important work to do.”I wipe a bead of sweat off my forehead, staring at the absolute chaos that we had created in Alan’s pristine, ‘don’t-touch-anything-or-you’re-fired’ living room.“He’ll join us.” I promise absentmindedly. “I mean… I’ll try my best.” I flash her a smile. Thelma shakes her head and walks past me to adjust a disco light. Worry’s stubbornly etched on her features.“Oh he’s going to have a heart attack i
REINAI expect Alan to leave the house early after last night, but he surprises me and stays for breakfast. Granted, he doesn’t look at me throughout the time we all sit there and eat, but at least he’s sitting there. There was really no emergency last night. Thelma raised a false alarm… not knowingly, of course. I barely grasped the details when she tried to explain, because all night, all I could think of was him. I had to change my panties because of how embarrassingly drenched I got.I want his hands all over my body again. But this is so wrong…I finally manage to tear my eyes off him, only to meet Thelma’s glare. I straighten. I know she’s noticing something between Alan and I, and she’s heavily frowning on it.I try to make small conversation with Ethan, mostly so Alan can hear him speak.“Do you like your food, E?”He looks up at me, then back at his food and shrugs.“I made your favorite myself. And the eggs, just how you like them. Great, yeah?” I try again. He just nods.Al
ALANReina Summers gets off from annoying me.I stay up in my dim-lit office, browsing through my laptop to see what a Chanel 25 is, and what it’s worth. I shut the laptop, a tad disappointed. It isn’t even up to ten thousand dollars, so why’s she so happy about it?I banish the thoughts in my head that continue to tell me to get a more expensive bag for her. Now why the fuck would I do that? She’d probably even shove it back in my face, that woman always finds a way to mess with me.Sighing, I decide I need a cold swim. It’s 2am, but I need to clear my head. I’ve been pissed all fucking day. From work to this tempting nanny who decides to rile up my blood pressure whenever I set foot in my own house.Came home early only to see Jeff’s Mercedes parked in front of my building. Cannot perfectly explain the amount of red I saw.Stopping by my room, I strip until I’m only clad in boxers, then I head outside. I open the double doors as quietly as I can manage. The security outside have loo
