I didn’t understand what was happening. One minute I was speaking to Connor and the next second I was suffocating on Alpha pheromones. My mind was hazy, my neck bowed in submission as the force of his power washed over me.

I have never felt so small and powerless before. I could smell him. When it happened back in the office I thought it was a one time occurrence, but here I was, trapped, drowning in his scent. My knees weakened, my breath coming out in harsh pants. I felt the need to fall on my knees before him and plead for forgiveness but another part of me wanted to bury my nose in his neck and take in more of the delectable scent until the ache in my chest subsided.

I snapped out of my thoughts when his voice broke through the barrier that my mind had created and I found my body obeying his command before I could even comprehend it.

I stood in the corner silently watching as they exchanged words. From afar it looked like brothers having a normal conversation but I knew better. My mind was still confused by Zane’s outburst and the need to run away from there grew stronger as he glanced my way.

“I’ve never known you to be in the market for Omegas.” The word grated on my nerves and left me feeling small.

“We all know Alphas don't mate with Omegas.” Gems taunting words rang out in my ears.

I knew what I signed up for when I agreed to the contract but I didn’t know I would be stuck between Alphas. It felt like a game and I was the helpless pawn.

My heart raced as I watched Zane harshly pull Conner to his feet. What would he do next? If he could treat his cousin in that manner then what about me?

I didn’t mean to disobey him but I had to get away from the judgments of the people that flocked around him. I stayed with Connor because he made me feel comfortable, seen and safe even. He was nothing like the persona he showed in front of Gem but it was clear that Zane hated him and I didn’t know why yet.

I frowned as he walked towards me. His face was blank but his eyes betrayed him. I could see the anger swirling within them. Tension was rolling off him as he walked up to me and grabbed my arms.

I winced in pain but he didn’t care as he pulled me to the dance floor. “Ow! Alpha. What are you doing?” I whispered.

“What does it look like? It is time to show everyone who you fucking belong to.” He hissed and pulled me to the middle of the dance floor. Slow music was playing and I gasped as he pulled me flush against his chest.

My cheeks turned red in embarrassment as eyes fell on us. He wrapped his arm around my waist and my skin heated up from his touch. “Smile and don’t you dare pull away. You are bound to be my Luna so fucking act like it.” He said with a smile on his face but the threat was clear.

I forced a shaky hand to his shoulder and my lips quivered into a smile as we waltzed on the dance floor. And I hated him at that moment.

I hated how he treated me like a child. Commanding me and turning me however he wanted, like he was stringing a fucking puppet and not someone to respect.

“Why are you doing this?” I whispered as he dipped me backwards and pulled me back against his chest.

“Don’t flatter yourself, Omega. I have no interest in touching you. This is just for appearance, so the news spread faster.” He said dryly and my jaw clenched in irritation.

“Is this all a game to you?” I spat and he chuckled.

“What else is it? Don’t tell me you have started feeling special because my cousin spoke a few empty words to you.” He sneered.

His words stung more than I expected. Our eyes met and my chest burnt with anger.

The air grew tense as I looked up into his eyes. “The only thing I feel is anger, Alpha. I’m not a fucking toy that you can push around however you like. We were having a nice conversation before you popped out of nowhere and decided to embarrass me.” I snapped.

The air turned cold as tension crackled between us. I could feel the anger coming off him as his hands tightened around me. I gasped in pain as he glared down at me.

“Bold of you to talk back to me, Omega.” His nails were digging into my waist and I whimpered in pain. “Don’t forget that you belong to me and I can do whatever the fuck I want with you.” He hissed

“I’m your mate and not your property.” I bite back.

“You’re too much of a failure to be my mate. You can’t even follow a single command and you put yourself in danger just because you won’t listen.” He snapped.

I trembled in fear as his voice dropped. He leaned in, his nose brushing mine, his breath hit against my lips. “You are my property until I decide otherwise.”

Tears welled in my eyes but I refused to let them fall. “I’m not yours. Or did you forget that this whole thing is fake?” My voice cracked as I whispered.

He smirked as he pulled back. “You can fight me, but don’t ever forget, fake or not, you’re mine. Every damn inch of you belongs to me.”

My breath hitched as he twirled me, then yanked me back into his chest. “Your defiance is only going to get you into trouble with the only thing that can keep you safe from getting eaten alive in this world.” He whispered into my ear. The hair on my skin stood as goosebumps rose where his breath touched.

“Then why did you bring me into your twisted game?” I asked in a shaky voice.

He smirked. “It’s time for us to leave, Omega.” His steps halted along with the music. He gripped my hand and lead me out of the dance floor and hall without a word.

The ride back to his house was quiet. I didn’t know what I was feeling. My mind was brewing with a storm of questions that I had no answers to. I didn’t know what I was in for. I thought it was going to be easy. Just play dress up and get it over with but what I saw since I arrived at the mansion and the gala just further proved that I was in for something dangerous. And I was already in too deep.
