Jacob stepped closer, moving like a predator about to strike. I backed away, but he caught me quickly and yanked me toward him. His eyes locked on mine, unrelenting.

I blurted out in defense. "I saw the dress on the bed and thought you wanted me to wear it for the Moonlit Ball, I swear I didn’t take it myself."

His expression twisted. "No." He shook his head sharply. "I would never want that. You are not her. Wearing her dress will never make you her."

My face twisted in confusion "Who?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

"You’re not her!" He shouted, ignoring my question. "Do you understand that?" His voice rose again, booming.

I nodded quickly, though I didn’t understand at all. Who was “her” and why is he comparing me to her

"Use your words!" He roared, and I flinched.

"Yes." My voice cracked.

He dragged me even closer, his face only inches from mine. "Don’t ever try to be her. You can never be her."

"I know," I said out of fear.

My mind kept blinking with thoughts. Who is “her” and why is he constantly talking about it?

Jacob didn’t say a thing afterwards. He just stared at me, and for a moment I wondered if he was even seeing me, or if his mind was trapped somewhere else. When he finally spoke, his voice was lower, almost like he was convincing himself. "You’re not her. You can never be her."

I opened my mouth to speak, but his grip suddenly tightened.

"Say it!" He barked. "Say it! You’re not her!"

My heart pounded so hard it hurt. Words stuck in my throat.

"Say it!" He demanded again.

"I’m not her," I whispered, tears blurring my vision. "I’m not her," I repeated over and over again until he roughly released my hand.

"Good!" He spatted

I stumbled back, struggling to keep my balance.

"Now go change and if you ever wear this dress again, I won’t stop myself from showing you what happens to liars and replacements."

I didn’t understand what he meant, but it scared me. I nodded saying a silent "Okay." and then slipped into the closet.

The tears I hadn’t realized I was holding back spilled down my face. Once they started, I couldn’t stop. Even as I changed out of the dress, the sobs kept coming.

A cold certainty settled in my chest. I was in danger. Jacob was dangerous. And I had the sickening feeling there was more to him than I knew.

I forced myself to steady my breathing and tossed the dress aside. At the sink, I splashed water on my face. My reflection stared back at me, swollen-eyed and trembling, and I couldn’t stop replaying his words.

Her.

Who was she? Why was it so important?

No matter how much I turned it over in my mind, it didn’t make sense. And the dress… if he didn’t choose it for me to wear then who did? And how did it end up lying on the bed?

I sighed heartily.

I shut off the tap and lingered in the silence. I waited, straining my ears, until I could no longer hear any sound from the room. Then, carefully, I stepped out of the closet.

The air in the room felt heavy. I sensed someone’s presence but didn’t dare lift my eyes. "Please don’t hurt me. I’m not her," I whispered, certain Jacob was waiting.

But it wasn’t Jacob’s voice that answered.

"I would never hurt you," Dominic said.

I looked at him and let out a shaky breath of relief. Dominic closed the distance between us and wrapped his arms around me.

"Did he hurt you?" He asked softly.

I didn’t want to admit it, so I whispered, "No."

He pulled back just enough to look me in the eyes. "I know he did," He said quietly. "And I’m so sorry for his behavior, Luna."

"It’s okay," I murmured.

"It’s not okay at all. I’ll make sure he pays for this," He growled.

"No, please. I don’t want any trouble," I begged.

"This isn’t trouble. I can’t just stand by while Jacob treats you like that. It’s awful."

"I just don’t want any more drama," I sighed. My voice trembled as I added, "I don’t understand him. The dress was on the bed—I thought he wanted me to wear it, I swear."

Dominic’s chest rose and fell with a deep sigh. "Jacob is just… crazy."

I exhaled heavily before speaking "Who was he talking about?" I asked. "He kept saying ‘her.’ Who is she?"

He looked at me for a long moment, then let out a soft breath. "Let’s just forget it. It’s over now. We should focus on getting you calm again."

"No." My voice hardened. "It’s strange. He kept insisting I’m not her, that I could never be her. Who is she?"

"Luna, relax. It’s done." His tone was gentle, but it made me feel like he was dodging the conversation.

"You know about this, don’t you?" I asked.

His silence said everything. I stepped closer. "Dom, please."

I searched his face, my voice breaking. "I know you know. Just tell me, who is she, and why does he keep saying I can’t be her?"

Dominic finally sighed, his shoulders heavy with something unsaid. "I’m sorry, Luna," He whispered. "But I can’t tell you. It’s not my place."

"This is my life we’re talking about, Dom. Please." My voice cracked as I pleaded. "I already know Jacob didn’t marry me because I’m his mate. And I know he’s hiding something in that room."

Dominic’s eyes widened in shock.

"Please," I whispered. "Tell me why he married me."

He parted his lips as if to answer, then closed them again. A long sigh slipped from him. "I can’t. I’m sorry."

His hand lifted to brush away the tired tears on my face. "All I can tell you is that you have to stop crying because him," He said gently. "And if he ever hurts you again, you can come to me. I’ll always be here for you."

Then he turned and walked away, leaving me standing there with more questions than answers.

~ OSLINE’S POVThe car was parked in the driveway, and I quickly climbed out, still frustrated with Jacob.I have really had enough of him. I can’t deal with it anymore, I want him away from me. Who does he think he is anyway, talking to me harshly and then making it a big deal when I react to his actions? He’s just a hypocrite. I hate that I still have to endure him.As I walked into the house, Dominic saw me. "Luna, you look like you just finished a heated argument. What happened?" He asked concerned as he stepped closer to me."Jacob happened," I groaned. "I just can’t deal with him anymore. He’s so annoying. I know he’s your brother but he’s the worst, okay, and I really wish I had never met him." I ranted. I have never met anyone who is as annoying as Jacob. He’s the worst and dealing with him is just punishment. I really can’t wait for the day I’ll leave this place for good so I don’t have to talk to him anymore. "Easy, Luna. You’re gonna explode.""I am gonna explode. I hate

  • Sixty Days Of Fire   25: Anger

~ JACOB’S POVI shouldn’t have said that to her. It was so uncalled for and I could tell I hurt her feelings. I know I shouldn’t be caring about her feelings but in that moment I just couldn’t help it.When Osline walked out of my office, I felt so bad that I couldn’t concentrate on the work I was doing. I had to let it be and go find her. My assistant told me Osline took the elevator down to the cafeteria, so I did too, only to get there and find her laughing with a jerk who works for me.I thought I’d find her crying, but instead, she was living her best life, not even caring about what I had said to her.Of course, that pissed me off so badly, and I only got more upset when she refused to come with me. She’d rather sit back and laugh with a loser than come with me. How dare she!I am an Alpha, and that little loser is nothing compared to me. Osline is absolutely insane. No one in their right mind would ever choose to sit with him over me, yet here’s my wife doing the complete oppos

He wishes I were the one who died. What does that even mean? Jacob’s words kept repeating in my head as I walked to the cafeteria and sat down. I don’t know why I’m even thinking about it. It’s stupid and Jacob is so annoying. He’s like the worst person ever and it’s so expected of him to say such harsh things to me, after all, it’s not the first time. But still, it hurts. All I did was try to talk to him, it’s not like I did something bad. I only tried to hurt him or anything. Just one thing and he’s yelling as if I had committed a felony. I’m really starting to hate Jacob more than I already do. "Care for a cup of coffee?" A voice pulled me out of my thoughts.I looked up and saw a handsome brown brown-haired man holding two cups of coffee."No, thank you, I’m good," I said with a smile. "Too bad I already got one for you," He placed it on the table."Thanks." I smiled"You’re welcome. Is this chair taken?" He asked gesturing at the chair across from mine. I shook my head "No

  • Sixty Days Of Fire   23: Bothering Him

Sitting on the couch with my hands on my lap, I twirl my thumbs as I keep my eyes on Jacob. He was working on his laptop and he’s fully concentrated, maybe too focused and it’s making me feel bored. Now it’s time to torment his life."So, when are you having a meeting?" I asked. He didn’t look at me, he was still concentrated on his laptop. "What do you mean?" He asked without a glance."You know what I mean. You came here for a meeting, didn’t you? When are you having that meeting?" I pressed. He glanced at me for a brief second, scoffed ridiculously, and then faced his work. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. "What? Just talk to me."He doesn’t. He didn’t even look at me.I added, "If you don’t want to talk to me, the least you can do is tell me what you’re doing right now."He exhaled heavily, clearly tired "Did you come here to trouble me?"I smirked. "Is that so obvious?"He nodded. "Osline, what do you want from me? Why are you bothering my life like this?""Because it’s fun and

When Jacob was about to enter the car, I quickly walked up to him. "Let’s go." I grinned His brows knitted in confusion as he asked "What are you doing here?""I’m going with you." I said, "Let’s go.""Osline’s, get out of the car. You’re not going with me."I frowned "But why, I want to spend time with you." I plead with my eyes. Still, he stood there, staring at me in shock. He asked "What is the matter with you? Why are you acting so weird?""I’m not acting weird at all. I want to come with you. Is it a bad thing that I want to spend time with my husband?" I said.Jacob looked at me in confusion. I know what he’s thinking and he’s right. I have no interest in spending time with him, I just want to be there because I suspect he’s going to meet Amani. "Osline, get out of the car. You are not coming with me."I shook my head refusing to get out "No, I’m going with you and that’s final. You can’t force me out of here."He let out a heavy breath as if trying his hardest to keep it to

I was fixing my hair when the landline started ringing. I picked up the call "Hello.""Alpha Jacob." A familiar voice came through.I didn’t recognize the voice immediately until I recalled "Megan?" I asked. "Yes, this is me. Can I please speak with Alpha Jacob, it’s urgent." She said "Megan, it’s me Osline," I said. Megan is my dad’s nurse. I can’t believe she called. It’s been a while."Osline, I’ve been trying to contact you but your number isn’t reachable.""Sorry about that, a lot has happened and I lost my phone," I lied. Jacob took away my phone. According to him, I don’t need any contact with the outside world."Okay, I have news. Can you please give the phone to Alpha Jacob?""Is it about my dad? If it is just talk to me. Jacob is nowhere near me." I said. There was a moment of silence on her end that sat with me. I quickly asked "Is everything okay Megan? Is that okay?""I really need to talk to Alpha Jacob first." She said I opened my mouth to speak when the door opened
