Chapter 10

AMBER.

I was awoken by the clang of a steel door in the distance. I tried to open my eyes slowly but I remembered being blindfolded the day before. I gritted my teeth the moment I felt debris of sand on my temples. My body wasn’t left out as it was throbbing in pain. Every single movement sent waves of pain all over my body, extinguishing the little ounce of strength I had gathered from sleep.

Wrapped in total darkness and silence, I wondered what time of the day it was. I crawled on the floor with the chains jingling until I got to a wall where I sat straight up. The silence was soon broken by another bang and footsteps down the corridor, followed by the barking of a dog. I listened intently as the footfalls came closer and just as I had predicted, they stopped right in front of my cell.

I was already bracing myself for another day of nothing but pure torment. The shift in the air already signaled that the guards had arrived.

“Time for your punishment, princess!” he mocked, chuckling
