VIOLETIt’s time to leave, to head back to the real — cruel world again. Stefan has managed to inform everyone. We will attack on the day after tomorrow because tomorrow is the full moon — the night when werewolves are the strongest and the next day is the one where werewolves are too exhausted to fight.Time is on our side, it seems, because we didn’t have to wait long.“ Are you ready for this? ” Gysla has asked me the same question for the tenth time now.“ Gysla. Can you please stop overthinking this?! You make me nervous every time you ask me this question. ” I tell her, sighing heavily.“ She is worried about you. ” Kane chimes from behind me.“ I know. ” I say, turning to face them both.We are standing outside the cabin, patiently waiting for Stefan, Wolf and Cassius as they are taking too long to come out.“ I know that you are worried Gysla but…trust me. I got this. ” I assure her.“ This doesn’t put my mind at ease. ” Gysla shakes her head, raking her fingers through her ha
VIOLETMy heart beats on a calm rhythm even though I am panicking inside. We get to the small mansion where the Queen of the Elves, Marissa lives. Contrary to the white exterior of the mansion, the insides are all Golden. The golden walls, golden shining floors, Golden paintings, Golden furniture. Everything that I see is a shade of Golden. This makes my eyes hurt.We go straight to what they call the throne room. It’s a Golden empty room in this place. There are three stairs before the small Gold chair embedded with jewels where Marissa sits, waiting for us.Her eyes light up right after she sees Wolf entering her throne room. To my surprise, Wolf releases my hand and walks forward, moving past Stefan, Kane, Cassius.“ It’s an obligation. ” Gysla whispers close to my ear.I don’t understand what she means but when Wolf climbs the three stairs, halts in front of Marissa and kisses the back of her outstretched hands, realisation dawns upon me.Gysla’s advance explanation doesn’t help m
VIOLET“ So…what now? ” I question, looking at the vast number of people gathered outside the city of elves. As far as I can see, there is no empty spot. I feel nervous after seeing so many people gathered in the same place and I don’t want to imagine what it will feel like to see the Werewolf King’s Army.“ Don’t get nervous. It’s a weakness and hinders your ability to think clearly. ” Wolf holds my hand, trying to talk me out of feeling this nervousness.“ We are going to war. You have been to wars before but…I have never done this. ” I mumble, tightening my hold around his hand. The night, then the day and this night passed by in a blur. Wolf had disappeared after we had sex yesterday night and then I am only getting to see him now.“ It will be alright. Everything is set. ” Wolf kisses the side of my head, assuring me.“ Are we still going to pretend that you are not going to die? ” I utter, bitterly. We haven’t talked about it. Cassius came to me in the morning and did fight. He
VIOLET“ What are we going to do now? ” Kane questions, looking up at Wolf.We have been silent — utterly silent for a whole five minutes because we have been tricked into walking right into a trap once again.I think…We always tend to forget that we are up against Katrina — the witch, the only dead spirit who has managed to escape Orphena.“ What else? It’s the final showdown. We have to go back to the city and fight alongside them. ” Cassius answers instead of Wolf.Wolf has been thinking, I can see it in his eyes. He is finding out what he is supposed to do when he knows what he is going to do. For a moment, I think he is simply staring at me, stalling time, delaying the turn of events and his death even if he knows that this wasted time is costing him lives.“ Mind—link everyone. Tell them to come to the city of Elves instead of Moon Valley. ” Wolf finally speaks up, his voice sounding deeper.Stefan gives us his back, mind—linking everyone he knows so they can get to know about t
VIOLETIt becomes a constant struggle. Katrina continues to attack me, again and again. And I do the thing I am best at — defend myself.A moment comes when I stumble over the cliff and barely manage to land on a protective shield down on the ground. It knocks the breath out of me and blood splatters out of my mouth. She doesn’t waste a moment and starts attacking me again. She can only attack me physically and I know it’s infuriating to her. She wants to control my mind, get inside my head and shatter everything that I am — but she can’t.Katrina doesn’t want to kill me either because if I die, she won’t be able to take my powers. She wants me to stay down and give up, that’s why she is playing with me.I admit, it’s embarrassing but I have to stall time to make Plan A work.Another blow of magic lands on my guts and I go sliding on the ground, my whole back scratching and bleeding.Ignoring the pain, I get up and raise another shield.“ We can play like this for a long time. ” She
VIOLET‘ Leena! ’ I call upon her again but she doesn’t appear.Stefan and Cassius have already rushed here. Shocked, grieving and not ready to believe that their brother is dead. Amidst their own overwhelming emotions, they fail to question Gysla or turn against her.I get up and walk backwards. My side is bleeding heavily and I don’t think I can stay conscious for much longer.“ VIOLET! ” Katrina shrieks. The sky grows darker. My breathes come out laboured. There is eternal silence in the battleground.Everyone is frozen. The one who brought together our Armies and was supposed to keep everyone together is lying dead in the middle. What do they have to fight for now?Lifting my head, I glance at all the people around me. They detach their eyes from Wolf’s figure and look up at me.It doesn’t take me long to realise Katrina is not behind the changing atmosphere. And these people are not willingly lifting their heads.“ Kill whoever still wants to fight. ” I hiss, taking another step
VIOLETOrphena is not the endless desert for me anymore. It’s like a vast city, a never ending one, with different spots for spirits here. There are houses, there are lakes, mountains, wide fields filled with flowers.I did imagine this place to be more hellish, spirits burning in fire or getting roasted in steaming oil, but it’s the opposite. Everyone seems to be doing okay here.Although I knew I will have to come down here sooner or later, I didn’t want it to be the time when I had to escort Leena.I can’t help but feel sad, miserable. We stand under a rainbow which appears from the farthest corners of Orphena. “ You have to let me go. Go find the people you want to see instead. ” Leena tells me after I don’t make any efforts.“ Is this where I have to say goodbye to you? ” I sigh, hanging my head low.“ Yes. From here on, you have to cross the rest of the way on your own. I must warn you…All of the Orphena is not like this. It’s the hell you think it is if not worse. ” Leena sta
VIOLET“ I am dead. ” Wolf deadpans.“ And I am the Orpheuns! ” I squint my eyes, saying.“ You want to break rules again. ” He concludes, folding his arms over his chest.I notice Wolf’s gesture and glance down at his folded arms. Now, he can’t grab my hand and he doesn’t want to unconsciously try either.“ I have 2 more chances left, you know… ” My tone softens while my eyes stay rooted at his arms.I was supposed to be able to touch him even if the world wasn’t able to do it…But…I can’t. “ They will call you back up. And taking a spirit out of Orphena will not be counted as merely breaking one rule. ” Wolf unfolds his arms, taking note of how I am now glaring at them.“ I don’t care. ” I breathe, lifting my gaze to his.“ Well, then you should! Because I do! ” He hisses and his eyes come alive again.“ Go back home. Don’t waste your time here. ” He tells, turning around once more.“ I am telling you there is a chance that we can be together again and you are giving me lectures abo
