SKYLAR'S P*O*V
Every girl would want a birthday where there's no one to order them what and what not to do. A stress-free day, with lots of goodies and gifts from both families and friends. But mine was a stark contrast.
I would work my ass off day and night, tirelessly cleaning the Alpha's room, and making sure his breakfast, lunch and dinner were ready before he even asked for it.
Yet, none of my actions were satisfying to anyone.
Today, I'll be turning eighteen, and it's just like every other day. Work your butt, get the Alpha's room cleaned up, fetch water, make sure his meals are all set.
Urgh…!
I decided to take a rest from scrubbing the floor while the other maids continued. I wish I could take a minute nap, but Mrs Marie over there will definitely not let me.
She never stops nagging, and it's becoming a dirty habit of hers. Her mind and attention are always drawn to me because I'm the Alpha's personal maid, she believes I am meant to do the bigger work than anyone else.
"Are you taking another break, you lazy fool?" Mrs. Marie shouted as she marched angrily in my direction.
Swiftly, I hunched over to resume scrubbing, my heart racing faster than my breath as I sensed her footsteps come to a halt right behind me.
"Miss Richardson, it appears your lazy attitude has started off again."
"No, ma'am." I began scrubbing hurriedly.
"This is the last time I will ever have to talk to you again."
"Yes, ma'am."
"If only your father wasn't being as lazy as you are, he would have worked the money sooner and you wouldn't have been here in the first place. How on earth would a princess turn into a slave in the blink of an eye?" She walked away.
I stopped scrubbing, trying to sink the words in.
This has become a constant reminder from almost everyone in the pack. They keep calling me names, a fool for nothing all because my father was unable to keep to his bargain with Alpha Denver.
My father's company was bankrupted, and the only way to keep it moving was a sum of a billion dollars. Dad didn't have enough at that time, so meeting Alpha Denver was our only hope.
However, Alpha Denver gave my father a two months grace to make it up to the bargain, but dad wasn't able to. Though the company started moving, it wasn't flourishing as it once used to.
When dad thought of what to do, asking for money from another Alpha wasn't the best option either. I had no idea dad had finally come up with a plan, one that would ruin not just me – but my future too.
I was just returning from Cedric's party when my father threw the news to me.
"I'm sorry, little princess, I had no other choice. You are the pack's only hope to keep moving."
Even till now, those words never left my mind. I feel like my world ended right at that moment he said those words to me, and for a thousand reasons I wish I could strangle the life out of him for selling me off without remorse.
I will never forgive him for doing this to me.
"Are you reflecting on your life history right now?" Her irritating voice seemed to appear out of nowhere, as though she had been standing there, waiting for me to begrudgingly acknowledge her presence.
However, Roselle and I had already prepared a mini birthday make-out for myself and her. She had wanted to make it a surprise, but being the 'no secret keeper' she is, she didn't realize when she spat her little secret to me.
So, we decided to rush the preparation as tonight, the Alpha would be hosting a feast for the moon goddess.
We went to the store room where Roselle had planned the make-out. Unknown to us, Selena, was keeping an eye on us.
It wasn't until a loud knock landed on the door, Roselle and I exchanged glances with horror filled in our eyes. "Selena." We cursed.
I rushed the birthday cake Roselle had managed to buy for me and we were able to hide the remaining in a hidden corner. The continuous banging on the door got my heart racing every second.
"What should we do?" Roselle inquired, her body trembling with fear as she fixed a worried gaze on me.
"Don't fret, it's usually just her nagging," I reassured her.
"But what if she reports us to the Alpha? You could face severe consequences," she said, expressing her concern.
"Don't–" I was going to say the next word when the door banged open.
Mrs. Marie stood alongside a guard, her stern expression was clear evidence of her anger. I had become used to her constant scolding as I had become her primary target.
"You two, follow me. We're going to see the Alpha King right away," she commanded.
My heart raced, and a thousand thoughts rushed through my mind. This wasn't the punishment I had anticipated. Reporting us to the Alpha was far from what I had in mind.
"Ma'am, Alpha Denver isn't in his room," Selena informed her, and a wave of relief washed over me.
Mrs. Marie turned, directing an angry glare in our direction. Her frustration was so clear as she realized her plan to involve the Alpha had been ruined.
"That doesn't mean you two have escaped the consequences of your actions." She said. "Tonight, you will be serving the guest table. While you, Miss Richardson." She blurts out, pointing at me. "You'll be serving the high table."
"But ma'am–" I began, but she abruptly interrupted.
"No excuses. You follow my instructions, or you'll have to answer to the Alpha King when he returns. The choice is yours."
I glanced at Selena, who wore a mocking smile that made my blood boil. I couldn't help but imagine choking the life out of her.
This annoying bitch!
She'd always been a thorn in my side, the main reason Mrs. Marie never gave me a break.
"You two better act properly tonight, or you'll experience misery like never before." As she walks away, she lets out a wicked laugh.

The evening dragged on, and guests began arriving one by one. It was said that Alpha Denver had gone to bring a very close friend of his from the neighboring pack.
Roselle and I had started dressing the tables and everything that needed to be seen on the tables. Selena was supervising us and I knew it was an order from Mrs. Marie.
Roselle had given Selena a warning to stop her incessant watching, but she refused to heed. I remained silent, knowing how desperate Selena wanted me to talk. But I kept to my peace.
In the blink of an eye, the hall was crowded with guests and pack members, creating a lively atmosphere.
As Alpha Denver began his speech, everywhere grew quiet that one could hear the heartbeat of the other. His speech was of a good reproach to everyone who had paid close attention to his words.
While they cheered him up, I stood by a corner, and I didn't realize how stupid I was smiling as I watched him walk to his seat.
From my corner, Mrs. Marie grabbed my left ear, and forcefully pulled me into the kitchen. "The wine isn't enough for the Alpha King, take more to his table."
Wincing from the pain in my ear, I placed the wine jar onto the tray and carried it back to the hall, making my way toward the high table.
I was careful as I held both sides of the tray, not wanting it to fall from my hands. While trying to serve the Alpha King, I lowered my head down, trying to make myself smaller than my small frame.
I tripped on a fair leg, the tray of wine flying from my hand and tumbling to the ground. Crushing – loudly – to the floor and spilling its red content against the figure sitting before me.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'll go get–" I raised my head and caught Alpha Denver's gaze on me.
He had his clothes and a part of his face covered with wine. At that moment, I knew my fate was sealed. I was definitely as good as dead.
SKYLAR'S P*O*VMy heart raced a million beats per minute as I fixed my gaze on Alpha Denver, fully aware that there was no escape from this moment. I had broken the fundamental rules of avoiding beating.I could feel everyone's gaze fixed on me, and the air was filled with murmuring voices as everyone, including myself, waited for what Alpha Denver's action would be."I'm so sorry, Alpha. Please forgive my–"A hefty slap landed on my face before I finished speaking, resounding all through the hall as tears cascaded down my cheeks."You worthless little thing!" He cursed.I could hear the gasps of the guests, none of them dared to do a thing. "Take her to where she belongs." He commanded and the guards quickly grabbed my both hands, seizing me from struggling."No. No. Please, don't take me to the cell. Please, I beg you alpha."He wasn't looking my way, so he was definitely not paying attention to my plea.Being locked in the Alpha's cell was a harrowing phase of life, more like a liv
SKYLAR'S P*O*VI glared around the room as I slowly opened my eyes, taking in a glimpse of my environment. I winced as I tried to make myself sit, my body was bruised and every single place hurts."Don't move, you still haven't healed." Roselle's caring voice sounded from beside me. "Hey, how do you feel?"I dragged my gaze over to her as she approached me with a soft smile and a cup of water in her hand. "How did I make it alive?" I asked, knowing it was only by the moon goddesses intervention one could survive those strokes."I don't know how, but you survived it." She replied. "Here, have a drink."She placed the cup on my lips while I slowly gulped down the water. I sighed heavily, so she went to drop it on the table. "Mrs. Marie." It was the first name that came to my mind."Don't worry about her, she doesn't know we are here."But not for long, the door banged open. In this mansion, there is nothing like privacy. No matter whatever you do, wherever you hide, there are eyes wat
SKYLAR'S P*O*VMy body instantly froze under his voice, my head contemplating over words to justify my action."You're planning on crossing the territory, aren't you?" I shook my head continuously as I mentally found the words to say. "No. I wasn't planning on leaving the territory, I was only trying to see what it's like outside the pack." I knew that wasn't a strong lie, but I needed something to save my life. He grabbed my neck, raising me up so that I wasn't feeling my feet on the ground. I grabbed his hand around my neck, trying to break free from his hold but his hands were tight.I choked, struggling with the little strength I've got in me. "Please. I was… never trying… to escape." I managed to say, my heart beating faster than the second hand."Do you think I'm a kid you can throw a blatant lie at? I can hear your heartbeat loud and clear, and there's no escaping for your actions."I couldn't see his face. The little light from the moon only illuminated the trees behind him
DENVER'S P*O*VI opened the windows so that the breeze could infiltrate my room. There was this unique smell that lingered through my nostrils as I sniffed in the air.It was very faint like whoever owned it had been here a while ago. So faint but my wolf took notice of it.It stirred something inside me. It had hints of rosemary smell, and it was invigorating, causing my wolf to purr.Could this be my mate?I followed it, letting it lead me to whoever the scent belonged to. But as I kept searching, I realized it was directing me to the woodside. At first, I felt suspicious about the feeling. I assumed the scent must belong to an intruder, so I let my curiosity take hold of me.When I saw her, I felt lost, confused and these were not the kind of feelings that I easily welcomed.I am the Alpha for crying out loud. The most respected and feared Lycan king, yet, I had grown weak for a female. And it's not just any ordinary female, it's my slave!I felt intimidated. So humiliated that th
Skylar's P.O.VI felt my heart beat heavily against my chest as he said those words to me. They felt threatening, and for a thousand reasons I want to believe this man isn't just an alpha. There was more to him that I don't know yet, even as his personal maid, I knew I still have a long way to go before I can get to know what kind of man he is.But then...his presence was something I couldn't comprehend.I thought hard to figure out why I was feeling this way towards his closeness. And that isn't something about how, I had felt it the previous night while at the pack's border. It weakened me, and I guess he felt that too. The way he pulled away from me was an evidence that he sensed it, but he was smart enough to cover up. His scent filled my nostrils that I couldn't get over with the smell. It filled my mind, took over my thoughts, leaving me helplessly enslaved to it.Now, even as his presence is just next to me, I seem not to have understood a part of what he had said. I was still
SKYLAR P.O.VI met Alpha Denver's room empty, I did all I could do before leaving. After what seemed like an hour and a few minutes, I returned to his bedroom to drop off his dried clothes, yet, there was no one in there.I met Roselle as she was spreading clothes outside. "Have you seen the alpha king today?" I asked. She shook her head. "No. Is there a problem?""Uhm...no. Not at all." I said, my eyes moving around like I was searching for someone."Skylar?" She arched her brow at me. "Is there something I need to know?"I forced myself to smile. "Nope, nothing. Just curious why he isn't in his room yet."She laughed at me. "Oh please, don't tell me you've suddenly grown worried for him already.""Me?" I point at myself. "No, I don't. I mean, why would I? It's unlike him, that's why I asked, nothing else."She hung her hands on her waist. "Okay, if you say so. But you know, he is the Alpha king, he has every right to leave and go wherever he wants."I nodded my head. "Yeah, you're r
SKYLAR P.O.VI can't bear this anymore. First day meeting her and it feels like it's been months. Nothing feels alright. I couldn't get over the pain I was feeling on my cheek, and I haven't taken my hand off my face.I got to her room with the help of Mrs. Marie's direction. Walking in, I found the room a bit messy. Things weren't in its rightful order. Her luggage was on her bed, with her clothes scattered around it. The wardrobe was wide open, a few clothes were laying on the floor. Her shoes were in different places, so were her underwear.I stood, glaring around the room with no idea on how and where to start with dressing the room. It was looking messed up for a woman of her age.One might think this room belongs to a child. Even myself standing here, I can't explain what I am staring at. I started from picking the fallen clothes up and hanging them back in the wardrobe, to packing her shoes into the lower drawer. Her underwear, I put them in her luggage, folding the scattered
SKYLAR P.O.VI fell to the ground as she finally pulled my face out of the water. I coughed hardly, water kept pouring out of my mouth as I breathed heavily to catch my lost breath. She threw a dagger glare at me, her stare piercing through my soul. She said to me, "This is only the beginning, try to make a mess around me, then I'll teach you how to maintain a good manner."I cursed Selena for doing this to me. I know I ain't strong enough, but hopefully the moon goddess is somewhere – out there watching everything that is happening. And I know she will surely avenge for my innocence. It might not be today, but hopefully some day."Get the hell out of my room this instant!" She yelled.Quickly, I stood to my feet, neglecting how neusious I was feeling. I ran out of the bathroom, and out of the room heading for my room.Tears streamed out of my eyes. I don't know why life would be treating me this way. This is all father's fault. I'm supposed to be enjoying the royal life, but here I a
