A Spineless Parent

Early the next morning, Lucius started his research on his mate before the date for her coming to the pack house will be set.

"Alpha." a pack information sorter came in and bowed.

"You can speak." he raised his hands as a gesture for the man to raise his head. "What is it?"

"The report coming from the information desk of the pack sir." he replied,

"Go on." Lucius sat erect and rested his arms on his desk.

"Eugene is not in the pack, he was captured by the enemy pack last month, during the fight that broke out from Crystal pack. His family is safe but he is not."

"Send men to find out what the Crystal pack Alpha would like to negotiate with our pack to get Eugene back." Lucius ordered and dismissed the reporter

Ethan came in next with a smug look on his face, "someone is going to get married." Ethan smiled and pretended to dance like a bride.

"Why did I get a beta that finds misery funny." Lucius chuckled.

"My Alpha, I only cry in your misery and laugh in more misery." he bowed.

"You're an asshole." Lucius throws a pen at him.

Ethan had always been an easygoing guy, he was the only one that could make Lucius heal from the loss of his parents, Ethan's father was Davis's beta at that time, and after Davis's death, Ethan's father took care of him as his own child and he became close to Ethan, Ethan never saw him as his Alpha but as a little brother since he was the elder among them, but when it came to official show off, Ethan was a good actor at making it seem like Lucius was his god. Also, Ethan did not only help pull Lucius out of depression when he was little but he also taught Lucius how to create a bond again after losing his parents. Lucius could always confined in Ethan and Ethan always made him feel better, he needed Ethan close to him that's why he made Ethan his Beta at his coronation ten years ago. Ethan was not the strongest in the pack, but he had pure blood and was of course the wisest in the pack, Lucius knew how smart he was and made use of it to keep his pack in maximum peace, stable growth, and maintenance of their power.

"You look worried," Ethan noticed.

"The father of my mate is not in the pack, they reported to me this morning that he was captured by the crystal pack during the fight that broke down between packs last month." Lucius replied.

"What did you send them to do."

"I told the reporter to send men to ask the alpha what he would negotiate to give Eugene back."

"You would have sent a letter to him, a read-and-deliver the kind of later, making the negotiation yourself will make it easier for you to pick what you can actually negotiate, instead of leaving it to him to choose something not negotiable and put you in a tight spot."

"Why didn't I think of that," Lucius said.

Ethan chuckled, "I'm here to think for you." he took a seat and relaxed his back.

Lucius's mind linked to the reporter that was with him minutes ago.

The mind link was one of the advantages the werewolves had when it came to communicating with one another from a distance and without needing to talk. "Come back to my office, I'll send a letter through you instead of sending men," he said.

"Yes alpha." the reporter bowed even when he was not in front of the Alpha to show his reverence to Lucius.

While Lucius and Ethan were engaged in another conversation the reporter knocked on the office door.

"Come in," Lucius said.

The reporter bowed as he entered the office.

"This should be okay, the sun of money is good enough for them, but it won't affect our account in any way," Ethan said.

"It's better than giving them the opportunity to ask for our lands in return, our lands are the most precious asset we have," Lucius said.

"I'm sure that they would want the part of rivers if they were given the opportunity to choose," Ethan said.

"They are not so smart." Lucius passed the letter to Ethan, after Ethan finished going through it he passed it to the reporter and sent him off.

The journey was going to take till the next day, they would probably offer his reporter a place to sleep before he continues his journey the next day, although that will only happen if they accept the negotiation.

Lucius went to his room at the end of the day, he changed and went for a run, he would like to hunt something fresh for dinner tonight.

When he went into the woods he remembered the night he saw a girl run through the path he followed, the blonde girl that haven't left his thoughts since. While feasting on the meat he had caught in his wolf form he sat on a higher land to admire the moon. His eyes moved to the caves after the boundary of his pack in the north, the caves were used as boundaries between the crystal pack and the mountain pack which was Lucius's pack, the new alpha of the crystal pack is troublesome and he wondered if they would come to fight for who would take the lands of the caves, it was there as a peace treaty of the last alphas before them, the cave had never been claimed by any of the pack to avoid war, but come to think of it, the new alpha could go against that treaty and attack them for that land. Before that time comes, Lucius could assure himself that he would be stronger with his mate by his side.

After his watch at the moon and his feast, he went back to the pack house and rested for the day.

Lucius woke up a bit earlier than usual, he couldn't wait to get news from his soon-to-be father-in-law. After his breakfast, he went to his offices to do some paperwork as he waits for the reporter.

By noon, the reporter returned with Eugene.

"My alpha." Eugene fell on the floor and bowed.

"It's okay you may leave us." Lucius turned to the reported "Stand up," he said and went back to his seat.

Eugene stood up and stood still, like if he moved he would be struck dead.

"Please take a seat," Lucius said.

Eugene kept mute and did as asked.

"I'm sure you are wondering why you are here, I'll just go straight to the point," Lucius adjusted his seat forward "Your first daughter is my mate."

Eugene blinked, he didn't know how much had changed since he was kidnapped, he had no idea about the moon reader and her prophesy.

"You look confused, let me explain." Lucius sighed

"Last month after the trouble that the crystal pack gave us a moon reader joined our pack, she reviewed that destiny brought her here and she knew a way to break my curse. On my birthday she reviewed the description of my mate and it's your daughter, a blonde girl."

Eugene nodded.

"Please say something." Lucius tried respecting the man since he is to be his father-in-law.

"I am glad that you have finally found your mate, I'm honored for your mate to be my daughter," he said humbly and bowed.

"You may go home, the crystal pack had set you free on my behalf." Lucius dismissed him.

Ethan greeted the man as he entered and shut the door after him. "That's your soon-to-be father-in-law?" Ethan asked.

"Yes, you know him?" Lucius raised a brow.

"He is known for being a weakling in the pack."

"How so."

"Ever since his human mate died he became useless, he let his loss for his mate become his downfall and stayed that way, even after marrying a new wife he didn't heal, he only got worst, stopped training, stopped everything he did as a pack member and let his wife control the situation, he has no say in his family so they say."

"The mate bond must have been broken badly, his human mate might have hurt him."

"No, she died as she was in labor for the child that is to be your mate," Ethan said.

"That is heartbreaking, not all werewolves can survive sure death of their mate, the mockery will stop one's they know his daughter is their Luna."

"I hope so." Ethan knew that people will still distaste him because firstly, he was mated to a human which is seen as a bad thing in the pack because they take humans to be weak, meaning that whoever is mated to them is as weak as them.

"The date of the introduction should be set immediately, I can't wait any further to meet my mate," he said.
