Chapter Ten

For a minute, I was discouraged and sad. "Why don't you want to pick me?" I questioned.

He gave me a cold stare, "You're someone no wolf would want to pick," he mocked and closed the door. "You're useless," He finally insulted.

My heart shattered into pieces as I let the tears roll down my cheeks as he said those words.

He continued. "I can't take you as a mate. I'll rather stay here in the woods than take one of my biggest enemies as a mate."

I frowned at his words. How was I one of his biggest enemies? "What are you saying? I'm nobody's enemy."

The light smile playing at the corner of his lips faded immediately. "You're a human and humans are the people I'm desperate to kill, I'm even surprised at how I haven't killed you yet but believe me, I'll make you suffer and regret your existence on earth."

How could one hate humans when they've not done anything to him?

His eyes glared as he said those words that I became scared of him. "Humans have done nothing to you," I suddenly found my voice. "Why do you hate us?"

He ignored my question and sat on the ground. "I don't want to be seen with a useless human as my mate, I'm seen as one of the strongest and toughest wolves."

Well, I wasn't buying his stupid replies, I wanted him as a mate and nothing more. If I had him as a mate, I could use him to escape this god-damned academy and find my way back to the city.

And yes, if he could reject me, why couldn't I also reject his rejection?

I braced myself and turned to look at him. "I, Hailey Marquis, do not accept the rejection of Alpha Blake. Thus, the rejection can be reversible at any time."

He laughed. "You should sleep."

I suddenly remembered the party Zoe invited me for. "Can you please take me back to the academy? I have a party to attend, I promised my friend I'll come for the party."

He stared at me, dumbfounded. "Wait, what? You're seriously going to risk your life because of a mere party?"

How could he understand?

"Look, I promised her I'll be at the party if I do get out alive and I have to fulfill my promise. I'm nothing like you, I have a heart."

"Sometimes, promises are meant to be broken." He murmured.

"I'm nothing like you," I reminded him again.

He let out a silent chuckle. "I hope you keep this same energy when I return back to the academy."

"I don't care about you."

He threw a small pillow at me. "Manage that and sleep, imbecile." He cursed and I ignored and laid on the bed.

How I wish he could take me as his mate so I would be able to escape? I desperately wanted him to pick me as his mate even though I didn't like him. He was so arrogant and rude.

And who does he think he is? No wonder the moon goddess cursed him. She must have noticed he'll have a proud and bad behavior from birth.

I closed my eyes, concentrating on the dark reds and blacks swirling in the afterimage. I was aware of my heart slowing, a sensation of falling, a flash of yellow flared, briefly became a face, then vanished, to be replaced by another, a feeling of crawling on the floor, and then I drifted off into sleep like a newborn baby.

When I woke up, I was surprised to find myself in a familiar room on top of the bed. Damn, how long did I sleep? I asked myself as I got up and pulled up the curtains. Where was I?

I looked around and discovered that I was already at home. I was already in Mr Brandon's house. Blake was definitely nice and strong for him to have brought me here without waking me or anyone up. How did he do it?

A light smile played on my face as the image of my mom filled my head. I could picture her in my head telling me to be strong and be bold for what was going to happen in the future. And I could still remember her beautiful smile when she informed me of her new job that day, I had never been so excited.

Tears began to fill my eyes as those memories returned but I managed to control myself from crying. After taking a short shower, I wore a blue shirt and a black baggy trouser, it was a perfect combination for me.

"This is what I call fashion." I murmured to myself as I wore my black canvas.

I did a light and simple makeup on my face and walked out of the room, excited for a new day. "Good morning," Kyle greeted me as we both climbed the stairs. "I didn't know when you came in last night."

"Hey Kyle, I sneaked in so I wouldn't wake anyone up." I lied and he nodded. It seemed so easy for him to believe.

"I'm glad you made it out alive, you should definitely be a good police woman in future."

I smiled. "I don't think so though."

Zoe almost screamed on seeing me. "Oh my gosh, is this a dream?" She asked, still shocked.

A smile plastered on my face as I saw her facial expression, it made me feel like I was strong and could overcome any obstacle.

She was definitely surprised to see back alive. "It's not a dream, I'm back for real."

"That's absolutely wonderful," she said and held my hand, dragging me out of the house. "You're even early for school, we'll eat at the cafeteria, I need all the latest gist. What happened in the woods?" She asked.

Now, she turned a dangerous topic into a friendly and exciting topic. Was she thinking I went for an excursion in the woods?

"A lot happened, I can't spill yet."

She frowned. "I can't believe you're doing this to me, you definitely are not going to keep me waiting right?"

I nodded. "I'll tell you soon. What about yesterday's party?"

She grinned excitedly. "Fortunately for you, the party was postponed and it's happening tonight. Have you gotten your outfit ready because we're going to rock that party and stand out?"

I shook my head. I honestly didn't know what I was going to wear. "I don't know..."

She interrupted. "I have a lot of party dresses in the wardrobe in your room so you don't have to worry . When we get back from school, we'll check them out." She said excitedly.

I noticed her excitement and I became anxious. "What's going on? You seem to be excited."

"Guess.. .."

"I'm not good at guessing."

"Just try,"

"Alright, an Alpha has picked you."

She shook her head. "You're not even close at all. I'll just spill the tea. Alpha Blake is back in the Academy and everyone is dying to see him."

"Alpha Blake?" I asked, a little bit confused.

My eyes widened when I realized she was talking about the Cursed Alpha who saved me the previous day. He was back in school and this meant that we'll definitely meet.

I didn't know how to respond to this news, I somehow felt excited.
