Springtime of Life

Life is too short, to dwell on sad things for long, which is why Augustus Hale, always believed in moving forward with the best memories.

He was a positive person, but at the same time sensitive, and he acknowledged all his flaws, because he was aware of the beauty of imperfection.

He let his passionate and dreamy soul guide him towards his destiny, like a free bird, who fell a lot of times, before finally relishing the joy of flight.

Coming to London was a hasty decision all together, but his friend Austin had saved him from regretting it.

The brown haired was a second-year university student, majoring in interior designing and had transferred to the London Institute of Design, because back in the countryside Hampshire, where he initially lived, his first year had been very rough, especially after his grandmother passed away.

His older brother who worked in a company in Japan was worried for him too, and suggested to start afresh in a new city.

Even though Augustus was reluctant at first, he realized that this was the best option for him, and now here the twenty-year-old boy was.

His brother Jamie, was overjoyed when he found out he was going to live with their childhood friend Austin Lee, they knew each other very well and it made the older feel at ease, knowing that his younger brother would not be alone in a foreign place.

Augustus was excited to stay with his old friend too, he had planned a lot of things that they could do together, he also knew that the ginger-haired boy would refuse all of his plans, but he has always managed to convince him thanks to his irresistible puppy eyes, and he was sure he would win him over this time too.

Although his plans were all forgotten, the moment Augustus met Evan, the brown haired absolutely adored kids and when he found out that the little toddler was a resident of the same building, it literally made his day.

“Tinny look at his little yellow duckie shoes!” Augustus cooed as he bent down to remove it for the two-year-old and put it in the rack.

“Yeah Gus, I look at it every day.” Austin dryly replied, while pulling in the luggage.

“You got class now Luke?” The ginger haired turned towards Lucas, who was quietly eyeing a playful Augustus with Evy.

“Ah yes, but I’ll come back early today and Kyle gave me an off too, so I was wondering if...” The younger trailed on, scratching his neck awkwardly.

“If?” Austin asked, sensing the raven-hair’s discomfort.

“If we could go out for a little outing, but Augustus just arrived and maybe you two would be busy.” Lucas spoke hesitantly, not wanting to intrude.

“Oh, I’ve got a little pending work at the studio, I would have definitely joined you otherwise, but Auggie could tag along, if you don’t mind.” Austin suggested thoughtfully.

“I don’t mind, but umm, I don’t know if he might be okay with it, I mean we just met you know?” Lucas rambled in a low voice with a frown on his rather chiselled face, he honestly was very nervous and so he was making excuses.

“Oh right, you don’t know him.” Austin let out a laugh, confusing Lucas.

“He won’t ever refuse going anywhere with little children, and he’s very adjusting so don’t worry about him being uncomfortable, in fact, for you, it would feel as if you’re going around with two toddlers, because Auggie’s mental age is like 4.” Austin added, speaking out the last part loud enough for the brown haired to hear, and he was rewarded with an offended gasp from Augustus.

“Hey, what nonsense are you telling people about me, I’m an adult.” Augustus said, with an angry pout.

“I’m sure you are Gus, by the way, would you like to go for a little picnic with Evy and Lucas?” Austin asked cheekily, raising an eyebrow.

“Of course! I’d love to, ah wow, it will be my first time going for a picnic in London, it will be so much more fun with Evy!” Augustus began squealing like a child, proving Austin’s point totally, as the ginger haired just shrugged his shoulders, while Lucas looked on with a small smile.

“When are we going!?” Augustus suddenly turned towards Lucas, startling him.

“I h-have class now, so in an hour or so.” The raven haired replied with a sheepish stutter.

“Oh, okay then, I will unpack my things later, today is going to be a fun day with little Evy!” Augustus squeaked, lifting Evan in his arms again, “thanks for inviting me, and come back soon, we’ll be waiting.” The brown haired smiled at Lucas, who nodded quickly.

While Augustus and Evan stepped towards the couch, busy with each other, Austin took the opportunity and dragged Lucas out of the door, shutting it gently behind them.

“Is it too much for you to handle Auggie? He’s a little talkative but he’s not nosy, and I can assure you he won’t make you uncomfortable.” Austin began explaining, he could feel the raven-haired boy was a little reluctant.

“No, no Austin, if it’s anyone who’s hard to handle, then that’s me, I might come off as rude to him or maybe too boring, he’s here for the first time, and I’m not the best company to do fun things.” Lucas blurted his heart out, in front of the elder, wallowing in self-doubt.

“Lucas, it’s okay, relax,” Austin stepped forward and gently shook the younger’s shoulders, “don’t overthink so much, this outing is for you to take a break too dummy.” The ginger haired explained, with a chuckle.

“Don’t laugh,” Lucas whined, "I'm just being honest." he said with a flustered pout, making Austin realize once again how young the raven haired was.

Despite everything, the difficult situations had forced Lucas to suppress his inner child, he didn’t deserve his youth to be withered away like that and Austin knew exactly who could handle this well.

“You really don’t know him Luke, Augustus is really unique in some ways and you’ll understand what I mean, when you two spend some time together.” Austin added with an affectionate smile, as he ruffled the younger’s hair.

It made Lucas wonder for a moment, how it would actually feel to befriend the lively brown-haired boy.

“I see, I’ll head to class now then, Evy will surely enjoy his day today.” The raven haired cheered up, as he turned to leave.

“Yes, he sure will, see you later,” Austin called out to the younger, who waved back at him before disappearing down the stairs, “and I’m hoping you will too.” The ginger haired mumbled to himself, with a soft knowing smile.
