The whole car ride to the safe house, was spent in total silence. No one spoke and no one needed to. I didn’t know that my dad had a safe house. Did my mom know about it? If she did, why didn’t she tell me? It was now an hour and we still weren’t there. We were heading to the mountains and the deeper we went I saw less and less proof of civilization.

An hour later, Gio finally spoke up, “We’re here.”

I watched as he pulled into a lane that led to a small shack.

“You’ve got to be kidding me Gio,” I couldn’t help but say. “I don’t mean to sound spoiled but my father is a rich man. I assumed that he would have bought a bigger safe house.”

Gio got out of the car and smirked at me. “Your father is a very rich man indeed.”

I raised my brow at the way he spoke. As if he knew something I didn’t.
