"They will come after us," Saoirse said.

We all sat around the fire, eating what passed for dinner. We were fast running out of trail rations, and would soon have to hunt more often for meat. But that was only until we could get back to where Cassian's Humvee was parked. Once there, it would only be a two or three day trip back to Silver Creek.

"But they've retreated already," Barry pointed out. "What's the point of trying to chase us again when we already got away? They would only be putting themselves in danger."

"They stopped the chase," she replied, "because they didn't know about the scrolls I took. They just wanted to capture Cassian and make him pay. But now, everyone will know what I did. And what Cassian did. They will want revenge."

Cassian scoffed, his arm over my shoulder, holding me to his side. "Let them come."

"Did you really have to cut out his tongue?" Saoirse asked. "You shouldn't have done that."

Cassian's expression was unchanging. "He insulted my mate,

I was hardly away from my pack for long periods of time, but whenever I did, I could always feel it taking a toll on me mentally. The mental bonds that tied me to the pack members grew taut with distance, and I always longed to return home. This time was no different. I could also always tell when there was something wrong with my pack or its members. Which was why immediately we got close enough, I was on high alert. I couldn't explain the feeling I got. I was tense, and getting a general feeling of urgency from the pack. I thought of mindlinking Max to ask him, but decided against it since I would be seeing him soon, and it was always better to talk face to face. I got my first proof that something was wrong when halfway to the pack borders, we were stopped by sentries. Usually, the warriors kept to the borders of the pack and didn't venture out to no-man's-land unless there was a suspected threat. They stepped out of the forest, standing right in the middle of the road that l

I was warm. Almost unbearably so. Through the blankets, I could feel the hardness of the ground beneath my hip. It was uncomfortable, but something kept me from moving. Cassian's arm, thrown across my middle. Sometimes during the night, my shirt had ridden up, making that the first bit of skin on skin contact I'd had in days. Cassian's arm was warm too, but not in a way that made me want to fling it off. I wanted to do the opposite actually. I started to readjust myself a little so I could scooch closer to him. Cassian stirred, his arm tightened around me, and he abruptly dragged me backwards until my back hit his chest, and our bodies were molded together. I gasped. The ground wasn't the only hard thing in the vicinity. Cassian's thighs were perfectly cradled against mine, and further up, his erection rested against my butt. I swallowed. Ever since we started on this godforsaken trip, Cassian had treated me like I was made of glass. I wa sick, yes, but technically, he was the

"Wait!" I yelled as Cassian disappeared from sight without a backward glance. He was going back the way we'd come. Towards the witches. Towards certain death. I couldn't let that happen. I rushed after him, only to be gently pulled back by Barry. I snarled at Barry and struggled out of his hold. He simply held me again. "Let me go!" I ordered. He shook his head. "Sorry, Luna. But I have to follow the Alpha's orders." I yanked my hand away. Or tried to. Barry wasn't letting go this time, and I was too fucking weak to do anything. "We have to keep moving," Saoirse said urgently. "They'll catch up to us soon." "I'm not leaving without Cassian!"Saoirse looked resolute. "He knows what he's doing, and he asked us not to let you go after him. He'll find us. Let's go.""No!" "Keep your voice down!" She hissed. "And if you won't come, Barry isn't above carrying you! You'll get us caught if you keep this up." "But Cassian—""Is a grown man who told you he'll be fine. Just trust him,

I'd always been a light sleeper, but that night, I slept with one eye cracked open in case the witches tried to use one of their cloaking spells to get past me. Who knows what they would do? They could try to take Iris away from me, or worse. I could still remember the panic I felt when I saw those men try to pull Iris away from me. I would have done worse to them than just toss them aside if I hadn't been making a conscious decision to not hurt them. Our packs had been taken and searched, but we were not searched. A mistake on their part since Iris's cold iron dagger was now in my hand, unsheathed and ready to end the life of the first person to try something stupid. If I hadn't been half awake already, I would have missed the door opening completely silently. There was no one there, and no sound. Which meant someone was there, with a cloaking spell. And they were coming right for Iris and I. I clutched the dagger tightly, ready to strike out, when Saoirse suddenly materializ

CASSIANIris and I were cuddled up on the tiny bed that night when Saoirse arrived. She knocked once on the door, then unlocked it and stepped inside hurriedly, as if she was sneaking in. I sat up, waking Iris up in the process. Her eyes widened when she saw Saoirse, and she staggered out of bed. "You're alright!" To my surprise, Saoirse let Iris hug her. I thought she was still pissed off about the incident with Rosa. "I'm alright," Saoirse repeated. "They told me about the prophecy I gave." "They told you?" Iris asked, sounding incredulous. "You didn't remember?" Saoirse shook her head. "I don't remember anything about it. It's the first time it's ever happened to me. Normally, I had visions. But this..." "What was that? Were you...possessed or something?" Saoirse nodded. "Or something. My grandmother said it was the spirits of some of the greatest seers. Sometimes, when they want to pass an important message, they do it through a seer, like me." "It looked more like they
