"I didn't glue you to the spot, dude. I'm not keeping you hostage." Stephanie shrugged. Jacob expected no less, and yet he had no intention of losing his cool. "I told you to apologize." Jacob said in return. "And I made it clear that I'm not going to apologize because I didn't do anything wrong." Stephie didn't miss a beat in defending herself. "You defied a clear instruction." Jacob expressed."Which was petty and stupid." Stephie snapped back, then she added, "What's with the tough guy attitude anyway? Especially when your dad or John is around, you act like you run things around here." Stephie decided to call out his behavior. "Because I do.""Says the one who had to keep me trapped in my room just to feel like a man." Stephie fired, wanting nothing more than to ruffle his feathers and upset him for making that
The remainder of the week vanished in the blink of an eye. By the weekend Carter came to pay Stephie a visit at lunchtime, while the young Barlowe wasn't home. This had been planned on purpose by Jacob himself."How have you been Stephanie? I'm sorry for taking so long to do a follow up visit." Carter asked then apologized after she served him a cup of warm milk, just the way he liked it.Stephie took a seat across from Carter, while they spoke in the dining area."It's fine. I'm fine." Stephie shrugged."Are you eating well? Sleeping well?" Carter then questioned. "It would better if I was sleeping in my own bed, at my own place, but hey, beggars can't be choosers." Stephie replied honestly. Carter nodded, "I understand, but this really is one of the best options we could offer. Especially after what happened the fist night you were here." Carter pointed out in notion of the burglary."I'm gonna assume you had the police investigate." Stephie expressed."No." Carter admitted."Oh?"
When Jacob entered his condo that evening, he found that Stephie had respected his rule. His dinner was on the table, but she was nowhere to be found. With the day having been spent in and out of meetings, and heavy reviews of the Swanson proposal in between, Jacob didn't have the energy to be upset that he couldn't see Stephie after such a long day. Instead, he saw to going for his evening run, and upon his return, he reheated his food, then headed to his room for the night. In her own bedroom, Stephie cautiously listened for Jacob's door to close for the night before making her way to the kitchen for a light supper. He had cleaned his dishes and left no extra work for her. Stephie sighed. This wasn't so bad. She would just pretend that she was feeding a shy ghost. After finishing her supper, Stephie cleaned up and headed to her room. But as she was about to enter, she noticed that Jacob's light was still on. It was getting really late. Why was he still up? When Jacob made it only a few minutes away from his condo, his phone dinged with a notification that the elevator to his place had been activated. Checking the notification, Jacob's pressures instantly rose, and with one harsh turn, Jacob rushed back to his building. And now, he found himself staring heavily at the one who he considered to be the most inconvenient troublemaker in the world, and she stared at the table. After being drained from the prolonged silence, Stephie rolled her eyes and crossed her arms while leaning back in her chair. Then she finally looked at Jacob. "So what do you have to say?" She asked with the most pompous tone ever. Jacob sighed. He was tired of her wit and tone, and yet it is the main thing which drew him to her. How could the most unattractive attribute of this girl be one of the main reasons why he smartly kept her close? "First, let's lose the attitude. This is going to be a civilized conversation. I'll start by saying I apologize for the offen
