“We want to be as clear as a window,” Kristen said as she struggled to get up again. This was a normal thing for her right now. As she stood, the three men saw her bend over and get the folder of papers out of Greg’s briefcase. He had been carrying those around since the day they got married, but before that, he had a copy of her IDs and birth certificate in there as well. Knowing that this was going to come to a head sooner or later. Kristen handed it to the police officer and then took her place next to her husband and waited.“Well, this is straightforward.” The man chuckled. “Can I ask why you had these ready?”“A few of the teachers here had asked me to go out for drinks. They were on edge for a few days after the incident at the school. Greg had found out the next day the extent of what this woman was capable of when the police came back to question him again during his break. It wasn’t that day. It wasn’t the next. Two days after the police paid Greg a visit at school that Kristen noticed that a few things seemed off around her car in the morning. She ignored it, though, knowing that she needed the extra time to get around when she got to school. A month later, it was time to see the baby on the ultrasound. Though they both were sure that he was okay. Greg called his parents for the first time in a few months. He knew that they would be okay without talking for so long and probably wouldn’t even notice how long it had been.
