Alessandro’s POV

The message burned in my pocket like a live coal.

A blurry image. Me. Shirtless. With Micah.

I couldn’t breathe. Who sent it? I looked around to see if there was anyone smirking or way too interested in what was happening, but there was none. Just people laughing and toasting with their champagne glasses like nothing was up.

I wanted to scream.

I thought about telling Micah. But his smirking face and shrugs came to mind, and I dead the thought down. If he thought it was a game, he’d treat it like one. This wasn’t a game. This was my life. My future.

I continued my walk with heavy steps.

The ballroom had gold chandeliers dripping light onto polished marble floors. The tables were dressed in white silk, each with a rose and crystal glass. The room was glowing. Cameras flashed as the elite of New York poured in politicians, billionaires, CEOs. Laughter bounced off the walls like music.

Sandra who is the star of the ballroom stood at the centre wearing a stunning emerald gown that fitted her. Her hair was flawless and her smile bright. A perfect mask. Everyone was doting on her as she raised her glass to those congratulating her, while they whispered about how lucky I was.

Lucky.

I felt trapped.

Then there was Micah. Across the room wearing a dark suit with a black tie. The picture of elegance and danger rolled into one. He did not smile for the cameras, but his eyes, his damn eyes, kept finding me. Taunting.

I looked away first. Of course I did.

The whispers started near the champagne tower. Two women in sequins leaned close, voices sharp as knives.

“They say his father forced a marriage once before.”

“Another merger, another sacrifice. These families never change.”

My hands curled around my glass. My throat burned. Were they talking about me? About my father? About how I was just another pawn?

I tried to shake it off. Then chaos arrived.

A man ran through the double doors with a flushed face. Sandra’s ex. I knew him from a photo I had seen once; a tall, scruffy mess in a crumpled suit, clearly drunk. He shoved past waiters, nearly knocking over the champagne tower, and pointed straight at Micah.

“You!” His voice trembled. “You think you are better than me?”

The room went still.

Micah raised his glass slowly. “Clearly, yes.”

Nervous laughter shook the room, but the ex was not laughing. He suddenly lunged at Micah, grabbing him by the collar, and gasps echoed around the room.

I froze. My body screamed to move, to stop it, but Sandra slipped her arm through mine, holding me back like a chain.

“Stay out of it,” she whispered, too calm.

Micah did not flinch. He bent towards the man’s ear and whispered something sharp. Whatever it was, it made the ex’s face crumple with rage. He swung a fist.

Micah caught it. Effortlessly.

“You are boring me,” Micah said with no emotion as he twists the man’s wrist until he screamed. “Leave. Before I break you in front of everyone.”

Security rushed in, dragging the ex out, kicking and cursing. The crowd erupted into nervous chatter again, pretending nothing happened. But my heart hammered against my ribs. Micah’s eyes lifted across the room, straight to me. And for a split second, I saw it. Not the smirk. Not the taunt. But something raw. Protective.

I looked away again.

“Alessandro.”

The voice made me spin. Nicole. My best friend. My anchor. She wore a sleek silver dress, hair pinned back, smile soft but guarded.

“You’re late,” I muttered, too shaken to hide it.

“Traffic,” she said, slipping beside me. Her eyes scanned the room, too quickly, before landing on me again. “You look… tired.”

“That’s one word for it.”

She moved closer, dropping her voice. “Be careful with this family, Ale. They’re hiding more than you think.”

My blood ran cold.

I gripped her arm. “What do you mean? Do you know something?”

She shook her head. “No. Not yet. I just do not like how they move and how they watch you.”

Her eyes flicked toward Sandra, then Micah. Then back to me.

Before I could press, someone else cut in.

“Alessandro.”

Micah. Of course.

He pulled me away, more like dragged me away, from Nicole, into a shadowed corner not far from the balcony. The way his hand gripped my wrist was enough to set my nerves on fire.

“You’re jumpy,” he said smoothly.

“Gee, I wonder why,” I hissed. “Maybe because your family is insane? Maybe because your sister’s ex just tried to knock you out in front of three hundred guests?”

Micah tilted his head, studying me. “You are not worried about me. You are worried about yourself. What is going on?”

I glared. “Stop poking.”

He leaned closer, so close I could feel his breath. “Everything about you is my business.”

“Stop.” My chest heaved. “You don’t get to say that. You don’t get to corner me. You don’t get to…”

“Do what? Do you want me to remind you of last night?” His eyes flicked down my body, slow and deliberate. “How badly you wanted me… and how badly you still do?”

“Shut up.” My voice shaking. I pushed him by his chest, but he did not move.

“You can lie to them,” he whispered, “but you cannot lie to me.”

My entire body trembled. Part anger. Part truth. Mostly fear.

“Let me go,” I said.

Micah stepped back, finally, but his eyes stayed locked on mine. “One day, Alessandro. You’ll stop running.”

I staggered back into the light, pretending my lungs weren’t on fire. Sandra glided toward me, perfect and unreadable, slipping her arm through mine again. Cameras flashed. People clapped. The image of a golden couple.

My phone buzzed.

I glanced down. Another message.

This time, the photo was not blurry.

Crystal clear. Me and Micah and in bed. Sheets tangled. Skin flushed. Faces unmistakable.

The caption:

“Congratulations on your engagement. Wonder what they’ll say when this leaks?”

The phone nearly slipped from my hand.

My chest caved in.

Someone wasn’t just watching. Someone was waiting.

And I was running out of time.

  • Straight Until Him   Epilogue: Home

Micah’s POVThe morning smells like rain and roasted beans. Wet earth clings to the air, fresh and cool after the night shower. The street is quiet, puddles shining under grey sky. I breathe deep.We are walking down the rebuilt district; the same street that once looked like a graveyard for glass and dreams.Alessandro looks around, quiet for once.“Feels different,” he says.“It is lighter,” I tell him.“Like the city finally exhaled.”He nods. “We did too.”We stop near a street vendor. He buys roasted corn like he always does, peels it halfway, and hands it to me. “For you,” he says, voice low. I take it, our fingers brushing for a second. The vendor’s fire crackles nearby, smoke curling up into the evening air. The corn is hot, golden, kernels plump and sweet. “You are still doing that,” I say.“It is our thing now.”“You mean your way of bribing me into forgiving you for past crimes?”He laughs. “Worked, did it not?”“Barely.”We keep walking. There is laughter somewhere

  • Straight Until Him   After the Fireworks

Micah’s POVThe morning after the wedding smells like coffee, rain, and peace. We are sitting on the balcony; barefoot, hair messy, wearing each other’s shirts. The city hums below, but it feels like it is ours alone.Alessandro stretches and yawns. “You are staring again.”I grin. “I married you. Staring is part of the contract.”“Did not read that clause.”“You should have. It is legally binding.”“You look too happy for someone running on two hours of sleep.”“I am wired on love and caffeine.”“Caffeine mostly.”“Do not ruin the romance.”He takes a sip from my mug. “You made this too strong.”“Correction… you are too weak.”“I just said vows to you, do not push me.”“Please. You said vows, cried twice, and nearly dropped the ring.”“That air was slippery.”“Sure.”“You are impossible.”“Yet you married me.”“Biggest risk I ever took.”“And your best investment.”“You sound like a business proposal.”“Everything is a pitch when you are married to a CEO.”“Ex-CEO.”“Fine, retired C

  • Straight Until Him   Vows in the Garden

Alessandro’s POVThe garden smells like white roses and fresh rain soaking the soil. Delicate petals glisten with tiny droplets, releasing a sweet, clean scent that fills the warm air. I can hear the soft buzz of the remote tune floating gently, but it is my heartbeat that is the loudest thing here, pounding crazy in my heart like a thump bouncing through the silent night, rapid and shaky with thrill.Sandra catches my eye from the front row. Her face is calm amid the buzzing crowd, and she mouths the word "breathe" slowly, deliberately, like a lifeline. I feel my chest tighten less, air slipping in easier, her steady gaze pulling me back from the edge of panic. Then I see him.Micah.He is walking down the aisle with his father beside him; calm, glowing, wearing that grin that always wrecks my composure. His steps are slow and sure, like he owns the moment. The lights catch his eyes, making them sparkle. My heart races; I grip my flowers tighter, trying not to stare too long. H

  • Straight Until Him   Engaged Chaos

Sandra’s POVI am seated in the mansion, song playing on the stereo, my mother cutting apples.“Did you see the news?” She asks me suddenly.“I live on the news, Mother. Be specific.” I answer her skeptically as I do not know where this is going.“The engagement! It is everywhere! Romano and Duvall are engaged! Half the city is confused, the other half is crying!”“Why are they crying though??” I asked, confused.“Because the two most eligible bachelors in the city got engaged to each other.”“Oh…I see… Eligible bachelors my foot.” I roll my eyes. “They should be applauding. It is about time those two made it official.”“Official? They double proposed to each other on a rooftop!” My mother says excited.“That is very them. It is insane.”“It is love.”“You sound like a rom com.”“I raised one.”“You raised two. And both dramatic.”“I will take that as a compliment.”“Do not.” I groan because she will make a big deal out of it.“We have a wedding to plan, Sandra.”“We?”“Yes, we. Mrs.

  • Straight Until Him   The Proposal

Micah’s POV“You are acting weird.”“I am not acting weird.”“You are definitely acting weird. You have checked your watch five times in the last minute.”“I like time.”“No one likes time that much. What are you hiding?”“Nothing. Why do you assume I am hiding something?”“Because your face looks guilty. Like you stole something.”“I did.”“Oh, really? What?”“Your heart.”“Stop. That is too smooth for a Saturday night.”“Fine. I just wanted to make you laugh.”“Mission accomplished. Now tell me why you are pacing.”“I was actually going to take you somewhere.”“Again? The last time you said that, I ended up in a pottery class surrounded by retirees.”“They loved you.”“They called me ‘sweet boy’ while criticizing my bowl.”“You made an ashtray.”“It was modern art.”“Right. Come on. You will like this place.”“I swear if it is yoga again…”“It is not yoga.”“Promise?”“Promise.”Fifteen minutes late“Micah… this is our building.”“I know.”“Why are we here at midnight?”“Because I n

  • Straight Until Him   Between Us

Alessandro’s POV “Look at the city. Still awake, like it is proud of you.” I said to Micah as I stood on the rooftop. He is sitting sipping juice.“Proud of us, you mean. You were up there too, Ale.” Micah utters. “Barely. I just stood there looking pretty while you set the room on fire.” “Pretty? That is all I get?” “Fine. Devastatingly handsome. Better?” “Much better. Come here.” Micah pats the space beside him.“Already walking. See? These legs work when you call.” “Sit. You are still in your tie. Let me fix that.” “Fix or strangle?” I tease him.“Depends on how honest you get tonight.” “Cruel. I like it. Loosen away.” He looses my tie.“There. Breathe.” “God, that is better. You smell like champagne and victory.” “And you smell like my cologne. Thief.” “Borrowed. I will return it in kisses.” “Start the payment plan.” Micah points to his lips.I kiss him.“Mmm. Like that?” I ask him.“Again. Slower.” He whispers“You are greedy.” “I know but… only for you
