Chapter 4 Teaching You a Lesson

Usually a girl like Lin Mengya would not have been arranged to wed a prince. There had to be some sort of plot behind it.

It was also strange that her younger sister, child of a concubine, acted like her elder sister’s superior. She must have worked hard to acquire and blend so many types of poison. Why was she so desperate to kill her own sister?

This was far more exciting than watching some drama on TV.

Lin Mengya found herself grinning. And here she’d been worried life in ancient times would be boring.

Well, she would play her role in this drama.

After her silent ride, it surprised her when a voice pierced the curtains.

“Stop the sedan! Open the door!”

The sedan was set down carefully.

Lin Mengya assumed they’d reached Prince Yu’s mansion. Next would be the ceremony to welcome the bride.

A door opened and she could see a pair of feet in expensive shoes walk towards her.

According to tradition, the bride could not walk on the floor. She was to be carried on the matchmaker’s back until she was past the threshold of the room.

Instead of blessing her with lucky words, the matchmaker went to lift her veil. She didn’t know the traditions of this world, and Su Qingge had never married in her own, but this still didn’t seem right.

She sat quietly, waiting to see what would happen.

A pair of white hands grabbed her veil to lift it. When they moved to pull it off, someone yelled,

“The bride is dead!”

The drumming stopped and Lin Mengya could hear the commotion outside.

Her eyes were icy with contempt. She reached out to grab the matchmaker’s hand before she could tear off the veil.

“What’s wrong with you?” asked Lin Mengya. “How dare you assume you can go against me? You not only try to pull of the bridal veil of a princess, you claim I’m a corpse on the day of my wedding!”

Su Qingge was surprised by how soft and sweet her voice was, even with her cold tone.

The old face in front of her, dusted with jasmine powder, twitched. The matchmaker felt like her soul had jumped out of her body.

Earlier, as the elder Lin girl got into the bridal sedan, the second daughter had given the matchmaker a bribe. In return, she was to announce the elder daughter’s death when the door opened.

At first, she’d been afraid to get her hands dirty, but she couldn’t resist the shine of silver.

But now the elder daughter was not dead, and she was in an awkward situation.

Cold sweat started to drip down her forehead.

“Oh god, she hasn’t risen from the dead, has she?”

She was preparing to shout again when a cold voice came from behind her.

“How dare you!”
