Thirty-One

Sally's POV

I frowned at the question. "How long?"

I don't believe my answer. I need someone else to help me stay sane.

“Three days,” Athena said slowly. “You had a cold for three days straight.”

Why do I feel like I've only slept a few hours? I have to go home. Everyone at home must have thought I was dead.

“Can someone drive me to town?” I made my request loud and clear for everyone to hear, ignoring all pleas for me to stay. I can not do that.

Ryan seemed dissatisfied with my stubbornness but still suggested. "I will take you away."

“Thank you,” I nodded. “See you later.”

“Sally,” Athena called.

I turned my back to her.

“How did you end up with bullet wounds in your shoulder and thigh and broken ribs?”

And as soon as the front door opened, the gentle afternoon air embraced me so lovingly. It didn't make me shiver at all, somehow it just cooled me down.

I turned around, hiding all the emotions on my face. “All I can say is he didn't do it this time.”
