"Celine, you have to take up your sister's place tomorrow," my father, Mr. Morris Mason, said to me as he stormed into my room with my mother.
"Dad, I do not understand. Why will I have to take up Clara's place tomorrow? Where is she?" I asked my father, aware that Clara had gone for her bridal shower. How could she just flee on the eve of her wedding?
"Something came up, according to Clara, and she had to take care of it," my father said, and I sighed, standing in my bedroom as I had not attended the extravagant bridal shower of my twin sister, Clara Mason.
Clara and I were identical twin sisters, both 25 years old. I knew that many of Clara's friends were saying I was jealous of my twin sister because she was getting married before me, but that was not the truth. I am in a relationship with Martin Enzo, a construction worker, but Martin was not the type of groom my father wanted, so he rejected him.
Everyone was proud of my twin sister. She was the apple of everyone's eyes, even our older brother, Luca. But I was the opposite. I owned a bakery shop in this part of the city, and I had pleaded with my parents last month to allow me to marry Martin. But my father plainly refused and said that only a rich man is allowed to marry me.
Despite my pleas, my parents refused to let me get married and chased Martin and his uncles away after they came for my hand in marriage. Because of this incident, I refused to attend my sister's engagement party or her bridal shower. Now she had disappeared and wanted me to take her place on her wedding day.
"How can Clara just disappear without explaining her reason to her manager that she is getting married to a wealthy man, the groom you all wanted?" I queried my father, who stood in my doorway with my mother.
My father had a dark complexion, while my mother was fair like me and my twin sister. We were her exact replica.
"Celine, I know this is hard to believe, but Clara said she had worked so hard to be among those selected for the stars award, and she cannot miss the modeling shoot. Please, you are her twin sister, and Jace Augustus will never find out," my mother begged me, and I looked at her face in shock.
"Mom, I cannot do it. You and Father need to order Clara to come back right now. Where's my phone?" I moved back to my bed and pick up my phone to contact my sister. She owed me an explanation for this sudden disappearance. How could she expect me to stand in for her on her wedding day? Was she crazy? I had already stood in for Clara, and many would not know that I am not Clara. The worst part is, her fans visit my shop and take photos of me, tagging me as Clara. But I am not my sister. Dammit.
"Clara!" My angry voice boomed over the phone call as soon as she answered.
"Hey, Celine. I'm sorry I took so long to call you. Please, can you stand in for me tomorrow? Please, please, sister," Clara begged me in her sweet, seductive voice that renders me speechless. I was ready to do anything for this crazy sister of mine, just to make her happy and to achieve her dream as a top model.
"Clara, I do not think I can do this. How do you expect me to stand in for you on your wedding? Wait, during the wedding ceremony, the priests will ask us to exchange vows and kiss. How can you trade your wedding day for business?" I could not understand my sister, so I needed an explanation.
"Celine, I wish I could explain this to you, but my phone battery will soon run down. Please, after this one, I won't ask you to stand in for me again. Please, please," Clara begged me once more, rendering me speechless.
"Are you saying that I should kiss your groom? What if he finds out that I am not you? You know that I am not as talkative as you, and I am not that close to him. Did you already tell him that I am not you?" I asked, wanting a better clarification. I knew Jace and I were not close.
I knew that Jace was my sister's fiancé. He showed her off to his friends and other politicians, as my sister is a very popular person with more than 10 million followers online.
"No, Celine. Please, do not tell Jace that I am not you. You have to act as me and pretend that you are me. You know how I behave, so mimic me very much," Clara said, and I sighed heavily.
"This is too risky. What if he finds out and locks me up? What do I tell him? You have to explain to him so that we do not kiss, or even think of me as you. I do not like your fiancé, and I cannot stand in for you. I'm sorry," I wanted to end the call on my sister, and she begged me, "Please, Celine. I'm begging you. If you do not help me out, then we are no longer sisters."
"Clara!" I was tongue-tied. This was her usual threat.
"I do not think I can do this," I said, and she threatened, already sobbing over the phone call. "Then do not call me again."
The phone call ended, and I looked at my parents' worried faces, especially my father's, which was filled with dread.
"Celine, you have to stand in for Clara. If the Augustus finds out that your sister is missing on her wedding, then we are doomed," my father begged me, even going as far as kneeling down.
I guessed this was the price I had to pay for being born as a twin. My twin sister used me for most of her silly business and sent me to cover up for her with the threat of disowning me. Now it was her wedding.
"Fine. I will try and do this, but I hope Jace Augustus doesn't find out. If not, I won't go down alone," I warned my parents, and they shivered.
"No one will know. You will learn to smile and act like Clara until she is back. Besides, this isn't your first time taking her place," my mother said, making me sigh heavily.
"Fine. I will give it a try. You guys should excuse me. Let me have some sleep. It's past midnight," I told my parents, and they smiled and wished me goodnight before leaving my door.
I shut the door and muttered, "I hope I can do this." I later went to my bed to sleep, but dread filled my heart.
Clara's POVWhen Brown arrived before the entrance of Edwin's new Hotel, he slowed down his car and parked it along the way."Thank you for the ride," I told him as I unfastened my seat belt to get out of his car."Alright, Clara. Take care," Brown replied while I got out of his car, and waved goodbye at him.I went into the hotel in search of Edwin. The night had fallen, and I still had to see my son. However, as I met with the receptionist and asked for Edwin, "Hello, I am here to see Edwin?"The female receptionist looked at me and asked, "Do you have an appointment with him?""No. He is like a friend to me," I said with a smile."Then give him a call," the receptionist replied, not seeming interested in calling Edwin.I knew that I had Edwin's number, but even as he was best friends with Jace, I hardly gave him a call. With determination, I phoned Edwin's number."Hey, Clara. What's up? I wasn't expecting your call. I just went back to my suite. Any problem?" Edwin asked me at onc
Jace's POV:Kevin shut his eyes, looked away, and nodded."Yes. His mother came to pick him up. She's a nice person, but Kaleb is rude," my son said, his gaze darkening. I frowned."Why do you dislike Kaleb? You've only met him today, and Edwin said you both weren't getting along. Did you know him before?" I asked Kevin, as this was the first time he seemed so upset because of another child."I didn't know him before. But he doesn't like me, and I don't like him either," Kevin replied, his voice cold. I sighed."You shouldn't be angry or jealous of him. You should know that you'll be seeing him often because his mother is friends with Uncle Edwin," I explained, and Kevin's eyes widened."Oh! Does Uncle Edwin want to marry that woman? She seems kind," Kevin's face brightened, surprising me."Why would you say that?" I asked, seeing my son's happy face."She told Kaleb to apologize to me. He was so naughty, and she ended up scolding him," Kevin smiled at the memory, and I smiled too."A
Jace's POV:I saw Clara leaving Edwin's hotel with her male friend. I didn't bother to call her back or act like I knew her.I turned away and continued chatting with an old friend of mine, Kendrick."You've really changed, Jace. Isn't that your wife? I remember you both used to display your love openly. Now you don't even want to call her over for us to say hello," Kendrick Collins teased, but I looked away from the car park."Some discussions are better left unsaid," I said, closing my eyes at the memory. Kendrick didn't push further."That's alright, Jace. I would have loved to join you and our old school friends for dinner, but I need to run. Take care," Kendrick said as he hurried to his car, as if he was in a rush to meet someone.I watched him get into his sleek black SUV. He waved at me, started his car, and drove off.Sighing, I went back into the hotel. Edwin was still busy, so I didn't push him to keep me company. He was my buddy, and in situations like this, I understood h
Clara's POV When I arrived at Banana Island airport, I contacted Jace to inform him of my arrival, but he wasn't picking up. I had already made it clear to him that I would be attending Edwin's Secret Palace Hotel launch. How could I miss such a significant event? Sighing, I sat in the cab that drove me to the hotel venue. It was a luxurious five-star hotel. I arrived at the hotel at six, wearing a lovely red dress. I knew Jace would be there since my subordinate kept me updated on his whereabouts. I made my way into the hotel lobby to check in. I received a warm reception and booked a room in the third-floor VIP suite. The hotel was fully booked, and I was the last client available for the VIP suite. I wanted to ask for Jace's room number, but I knew the staff wouldn't provide such information. I hadn't seen my son, so I decided to call Jace later to catch up with him. After checking in, I was led to the third floor where my room was located. Once inside, I set down my suitca
Celine's POV.Becky came into my office to greet me, "Welcome, Madam." "Thank you," I smiled at her as I knew that she had been a great help. She donned a silver top and black skirt, and she had a white apron tied around her chest. "Hey, Kaleb. How are you doing?" Becky waved at my son, and he greeted her with a warm smile, "Good afternoon, Aunty Becky.""Afternoon." Becky replied to Kaleb, then she turned to face me and asked, "Do you need anything, madam?"I was aware that my sale was made through an online transaction, as we do not accept cash. Also, my cooking budget was the same as always. "No. I don't need anything. I should be the one asking you that?" I asked Becky in a gentle tone, and she smiled. "Not at all, Madam." "Alright. You can get back to work. I just came to greet you guys and to see if you need any help. The hotel partnership has been cool, and Mr. Hugo was a friendly man." "Alright, Ma. I am glad that you accepted the partner." Becky looked genuinely happy f
Celine's POV."It's okay. You don't need to be hard on the kids. They are boys and all naughty boys," Edwin said, but I shook my head. I took my handkerchief to wipe off my tears."It's fine. I don't want to raise a bully. I know how wrong it felt to be bullied. I was bullied growing up by my own family," I said, shutting my eyes at the memory as I wiped off my tears. My parents always felt that Clara was better off and good at everything than me. They wanted a perfect daughter, but I ended up the opposite. The memory stung. How they declined everything that I wanted to do, until I stood my ground and insisted."I am so sorry. I didn't know that this child would make you feel sad. Now, all of you, apologize to aunty Ann," Edwin told the two kids next to him.My son looked at me confusedly, as I am sure that my face had turned red."I am sorry, Mom," Kaleb said, instead of getting angry with me."It's fine. I am okay. Don't mind me," I smiled and my son smiled back."It's alright. I gu
