Chapter 10

“Don’t yell at her.” Ethan stepped between Xander and I. “And what are you all staring at? Get back to your training!” It was interesting how everyone moved, scrambling away as if the last person would be punished.

“Ethan, this is between Selene and I. Move,” Xander said through gritted teeth.

“As you can see, she’s in no place to be interrogated. I’m taking her home,” Ethan reached out to me but Xander slapped his hand away.

“That was not a suggestion,” he said. “Go away.”

“That’s my sister who’s hurt. I’m taking her home,” Ethan insisted.

“That’s – fuck off. That’s a command,” Xander barked.

There was a subtle war of nerves between the two but Ethan finally walked off with one last look at me. When he was gone, Xander turned to me with the full force of his burning gaze. I would have flinched away if I wasn’t drained to the point where even subtle movements were difficult.
