Chapter sixteen: Flash back
"Would you relax" Amelia said sitting on my bed watching me pace back and forth. I looked over at her and smiled. Even in just in pjs I thought my best friend was truly beautiful. I was glad she was here with me. I couldn't shake the thought that Elstan should have been the one sitting there.
"Sorry I'm just so nervous." I said sitting next to her. We were wearing matching pjs just like we always did when she spent the night. Though since she turned eighteen three months ago and found her mate we hadn't really hung out much outside of school. It hadn't really bothered me much at that point because I had still been dating Elstan. Now I was alone though. He had broken up with me a week ago. Amelia had done the best she could to be there for me. This was the first time we had any alone time together though.

I was left on that bed of spikes for what felt like an eternity but I no real way to tell how long I had been here. I was still groggy and half asleep when I was abruptly woken. I was barely aware of Evans voice as he pleaded with me for something. I just couldn't tell what. I suddenly felt cold after hearing his voice for several minuets, perhaps longer. Before I could register why I was so cold I felt a sharp prick in my arm and then I was being dragged against something hard and cold. It was most likely the floor. I heard a squeaking sound of a heavy metal door with most likely fairly old and rusted hinges and then a bang of the same door as I was dragged out into the fairly hot day. The feeling of the sun on my skin finally oriented me to the current moment. I was being dragged by Elstan towards the woods. "Come on Kaydence you can do it. Stop unnecessarily squirming and remember what I taught you." I took a deep breath and focused on the ropes. I focused on where I felt each knot and tried to reach for one of the ones I was sure would give me slightly more mobility. It was hard when I was tied to a pillar and I wasn't allowed to use my wolf strength. I was never allowed to use my full strength for this training. My father always insisted that it was because if I got captured chances are I would be injected with something to prevent me from turning or using my full strength. I think he just enjoyed making me go through these mental exercises. These ropes were tighter then any of the ones he'd ever had me tied up with before and there was significantly more than normal too. I guess this was the most he could do. "Hey wake up. Elstan gave everyone on patrol duty orders to make sure you don't sleep." I opened my eyes slowly to see Bran, one of the warriors significantly older than me, standing in front of me. The second day passed pretty uneventfully. Every now and then I would see a warrior or two pass by but very few paid any attention to me other than to check if my ropes were still tied under Elstans orders. I wasn't surprised really. I knew I could escape these ropes if I had more strength but unfortunately that didn't seemi to be happening any time soon. Occasionally a warrior on patrol who pitied me enough would give me some water or let me nibble on something. Never much because they knew, hell we all knew that if Elstan found out they would pay for it. I stayed quiet unless I was directly talked to. I had devised a plan to be on my best behavior just until Elstans Alpha ceremony. I would make them think I had submitted and would blindly obey him just until then. I woke to Amelia snoring very loudly in my ear. I opened one of my eyes in a squint to see my best friends face much closer to me then I would of preferred but I resisted the urge to laugh. I felt a surge of energy shoot through me and smiled. I guess I was too excited to go back to sleep anyways. I rolled over towards my alarm clock and inwardly groaned. By the fifth day the heat was getting to me. From the little sunlight that did filter through the trees I was sunburnt and it was severely uncomfortable. The warriors who passed by on patrols took pitty on me but didn't dare offer me any sunblock for fear Elstan would notice. From the little information I had been given each day from those who were sympathetic to me things were getting worse. Elstan was basically a tyrant and letting the power of being Alpha get to his head. Kyle told me yesterday that Elstan was pushing the warriors too hard during training that one of them actually collapsed and when they wouldn't get up he had the warrior dragged away and beat into submission. True to Elstans words about an hour or so after he left the next patrol came around. They were silent as the ropes were undone and I was helped down from how I had been positioned on the tree. Unfortunately for me most of the wonds on my back had become infected and the warriors who were on this patrol were not ones I was particularly close to. They hadn't even bothered to bring me clothes or tried to clean and dress any wounds or give me anything for the slight rope burn that had occured on my wirsts and neck.
