CHAPTER 28

I stare in the mirror and in its reflection, I see someone on the verge of change. I inhale and exhale, the air musky with the scent I’ve grown accustomed to for so many years.

This will be the last time I’m using this large space, this large sink adorned with my bath products and traces of Logan’s aftershave too, when we still slept together in the same room.

With the last courage I’ve mustered, I step out of the bathroom in my robe. The dress I’ve worked so hard cutting and sewing for the last hour laid on the bed. It must have been Jane sabotaging me — fortunately for her, it would be the last time she has to do that now that I’m soon off her sight.

I was about to head over to the bed when three consecutive knocks were heard first before I was to do so. I instantly covered the dress with the sheets and headed to the door in my robe.

Who could it be with the party thirty minutes away from now? Surely they wouldn’t have the time in their hands to idle around instead of preparing for
