The meeting took hours and by the time Killian returned to his mate it was already very late at night. His mate was lying peacefully on the bed, she looked like she was in deep sleep. The maids had also dozed off but when the king stepped closer to his mate's bed they all jolted awake, they almost screamed because they were trying to stay alert but they recognized their Alpha instantly even in the darkness.

They bowed slightly and didn't say a word before walking out of the room. Leaving the king standing beside his mate, staring at her. He shook his head and let out a sigh, he noticed that she was not sleeping at all, perhaps she was faking the sleep in an attempt to make the maids go away.

“Why don't you open your eyes my lovely,” Killian said, smiling. “I know you're not sleeping.”

Hailey knew the king had entered the room, she didn't have a sharp memory but she could remember his footsteps no matter how silent they were and his aura was something you could feel even if your eyes
