‘Easy my foot.’
I inwardly snort at my drunk best-friend jumping and screaming on the dance floor under the disco lights. The minute we stepped into this party, Stephanie seemed to have a nose for the bar because she managed to navigate through the drunk and high noisy crowd directly to the bar, while holding my hand.
Stephanie was quite popular among other department so It wasn’t a surprise when she greeted some students on our way to the bar. On the other hand, I remained quiet and followed her like a chick trailing after its mother hen.
My outfit was simple maroon long sleeves dress, quite decent and elegant. When Stephanie pulled out this dress for me, I was very shocked because I have worn much worse than this to her parties.
In her words, I am a to-be mother, so I must show my unborn child how to be decent-looking at parties.
On the other hand, Stephanie’s outfit was a jean shorts with crop top and boots. Her tattoos were on her belly and shoulder out in display.
Typical Stephanie with her hot and crazy looks.
‘She can handle herself alright.’ I laugh lightly at Stephanie who slapped a guy’s hand inching to her waist and gave him a middle finger.
‘’Do you need more water?’’ The bartender asks and I silently shake my head in response, taking my eyes off Stephanie and gulped down some water from the red plastic cup. Before moving to the dance floor, Stephanie had ordered some strong wine for herself and plain water for me.
‘It’s really noisy.’ I unconsciously bob my head to the nice beat of the music, and somewhat appreciated the noise. Normally, noise and I were like water and fire, but now....I needed that noise for the sake of sanity.
Just something to shift my mind away from my thoughts and life.
‘’Why hello there.’’ Someone greets me from the side, and I turn my head to a lady in a short and glittering silver gown on the stool. ‘’Haven’t we meet before? You face seems quite familiar.’’ She smiles with her red cup.
I shake my head and deny her claims with a small ‘no’
If the person here was a man, I would have inwardly gagged at his pick-up lines that have been used for ages. But, this was a lady, probably a student like me from a different department.
‘’Really? I’m sure that I have indeed met you in the past.’’ The lady furrows her eyebrows in thoughts. ‘’Oh dear, my old memories must be failing me quite a bit.’’ She giggled lightly and took a sip of her drink.
‘’......’’
Old?
At the strange word, I stare at the lady weirdly. I couldn’t but help eye her outfit to see where this old was coming from.
Just when I decide to end the conversation quite politely, her eyes suddenly lit up and she exclaimed quite loudly. ‘’Aha! You’re the gal whose future I read, the one with a twin sister.’’
Twin sister?
Now that got my attention.
‘’You met my twin sister?’’ I carefully ask, deliberating if I should label this lady as one with lost screws. Only fortune-tellers claim to speak of futures and they were outright scammers, collecting people’s money with fake words of the future.
‘’Oh? You’re her twin?’’ The lady suddenly grins in mysterious manner, and immediately inch her face closer to mine. I retreated a bit to avoid her alcoholic breath with a small frown on my lips. Did this lady not understand the meaning of personal space or was she that drunk?
She met my displeased eyes that widened slightly at the flicker of a purple light in her own eyes. Am I see things or was I drunk from the smell of alcohol?
‘’You really don’t look like that gal, but your features are quite similar.’’ She leaned back with stare on me. ‘’I remember she has blonde hair. Fraternal twins, perhaps? Now, that I look at you more clearly, your fate is a little different from its original course with obstacles here and there.’’ The lady chuckles in amusement, sipping more of her drink.
‘’......’’
Blonde hair.
My twin sister definitely had blonde hair that always seemed to shine gold. I have always been quite envious of such beautiful and luscious hair.
But...my twin sister has hardly stepped out in the human society alone. There were times my father took us out there, and I remember my twin sister did not seem interested in humans in general.
The only time I remember that my sister was interested in the human society was on the day of that incident.
So, how did my twin sister meet this strange lady?
‘’As expected, the smell of an Alpha terribly stinks, especially from a child with a mix of beta female and a strong Alpha.’’ She waves her hand in front of her nose as though dismissing a scent. ‘’Quite a sturdy fellow you have there, Luna.’’ Her words lace with hints of mischievousness.
I choke on my water at the unexpected words of the lady, and carelessly drop my red cup that falls to the ground. The remaining water splashes on my maroon dress, but I pay no mind to the damage.
‘’Hey, you alright?’’ My ears caught on some words of concerns, but I did not care about them except this lady before my gaze.
‘’Y-You...’’ I stare wide-eyed with a hoarse voice while coughing in my hands. How did you know? I wanted to ask, but my choking coughs prevented from doing so, and the lady immediately bid her farewell with a mischievous wave.
‘’Bye-bye!’’
‘’W-Wait...’’ I struggled to stand up and chased after the figure of the lady through the noisy crowd.
‘’Hey!’’
‘’What the heck?’’
‘’Watch it!’’
‘’Rude!’’
I push through the drunk bodies and even stepped on some shoes with excuse me and apologies here and there. However, my eyes were focused on the fading figure of the strange lady amid the noisy crowd.
I was sure this lady was human from her scent. She also did not carry the scent a werewolf like Logan did, so how was she aware of werewolves, especially my unborn child whom I have yet to reveal his or her existence to anyone asides my best friends?
‘’W-Wait...’’ I pant with my hand in the air, hoping for the lady to stop escaping from my view, but it appeared she did not want to be caught.
‘’A-Aha....’’ I try to catch my breath with my hands now on my knees. Right now, I cannot tell if the lady was within range, or even in the frat party. Perhaps my energy was a bit drained that I suddenly feel lighthearted, and my steps turned wobbly.
‘’Woah! Hey! Hey, you okay?’’ My head falls lightly on a chest and a light musky scent wafts to my nose. This person already grabbed my shoulder and tried to balance my stumble. Using the opportunity of balance, I manage to calm myself and look up gratefully.
‘’Thank you.’’ I say, freeing myself from his hold, and intended to walk past him, only to realize that I am in quiet corridor with few people. I also sensed curious glances in my way, and immediately understood that I have caused a bit of commotion.
‘Why did you humiliate like this?!’ I need to knock some sense into my overreacting self from a moment ago.
‘’Are you lost?’’ The same person asks, probably seeing the mixture of confusion and embarrassment on my face.
I quickly nod, ‘’Yes please.’’
He laughs lightly at fast answer and gestures forward with his head. ‘’Come on. I’ll take you back.’’
‘’Thank you.’’ I sigh in relief that this person was not like the freaks from Stephanie’s dark stories of the frat parties. Though, I could be wrong if he doesn’t direct me to the main party, but if this human tries to any funny games, it wouldn’t take much strength from me to render him unconscious.
The taxi rattles along the empty road, headlights cutting through the darkness as we left the city behind. My phone buzzes on my hand, and I look down to see more messages from the wild rogue.‘’Keep heading north on county road 86.’’ I read out the messages to the taxi driver. ‘’There should be a new turn somewhere, take it.’’The taxi driver glances at me through the rearview mirror, his eyebrows furrowing slightly at my words, but said nothing.Minutes stretch like hours before a new turn appears on the way, the road barely lit by a single streetlamp.*Where to next?*I send another message to the wild rogue as the taxi driver found the new turn, the vehicle jolting over potholes and the sound of gravel crunching underneath the tyres. After sending that message, I go over my chat with Jared, still finding no reply from him yet. He had requested for the phone number the Rogue Alpha had used to communicate with me, the same number I have been using to communicate with the wild rogue n
‘’Selena wait.’’Right after the call ended, I did not waste time in leaving the Alpha’s office. Jared tried to stop me on the way out, but I ignored him.Outside the pack house during the sunset, he quickly blocked my path.‘’Out of my way.’’ I glare at him.‘’You can’t go to him without a plan.’’‘’Seriously?’’ I scoff at his words. ‘’Our pup is either dead or alive and all you care about is some stupid plan!’’‘’What if he kills you?’’‘’Then I die as long as the two omegas bring Lucian back alive.’’ I tell him without hesitation. Lucian’s safety was all that mattered to me and nothing else. Not even my own life.‘’What if no one makes it back alive, Selena?’’ He carries on.‘’Stop being negativity here, Jared.’’ I nearly yell because his words were becoming more and more infuriating. ‘’This is our son’s life we’re talking about.’’How could he say that Lucian might not make it back alive?‘’I am trying to be rational here.’’ He defends his words.‘’Well, your so-called rationality
‘’Have you gotten anything yet?’’ On the edge of my seat, I ask Jared for the umpteenth time in the alpha’s office of the pack house. It’s been thirty minutes since I arrived at the office, and it’s almost 6:00pm on the dot. Lucian’s circumstances were still unknown and that made me very anxious to the core.‘’...Nothing yet, Selena.’’ He replies from his own seat.‘’Well, are you trying enough?” I was already frustrated that Jared has been telling me nothing yet for the past hours.‘’I have informed the elder council and other packs, Selena.’’ He tells me. ‘’No one has called back, yet.’’‘’Then we should just do nothing and wait?!’’‘’......’’I let out a small scoff at his silence that pretty much answered my question. I was very upset that we were doing absolutely nothing, and just waiting for any call, while Lucian was somewhere goddess knows where. Before now, the pack members had called for Jared under my orders, and I explained everything to him starting from Lucian’s school b
Fortunately, the house wasn’t too far from the pack’s elementary school. Gazes and whispers poured my way from the pack members as usual, and some of them stepped forward to ask Evelyn if everything was alright like I was threatening her or something, but I just didn’t care about them at the moment.*Knock**Knock*Evelyn knocked a door to one of the houses here. A moment later, the door swings open and a familiar face comes out.Tiffany?I was a bit taken back to know that this was her house. Was the sick classmate her son?But it does not seem like she’s marked, judging from her clear neck.Tiffany glances my way for a moment.‘’How can I can help you?’’ She asks Evelyn.‘’Miss Tiffany—‘’‘’Is Lucian here?’’ I cut in, not patient enough for the pleasantries. ‘’Miss Evelyn says the future Alpha came here with a sick classmate and I want to know if he’s still here.’’Tiffany holds my gaze for a moment.‘’He left some time ago.’’ She replies. What?Lucian left some time ago?Why did I f
Tears blurred my vision as I clutch the letter in my trembling hand, shaky breath escaping my lips. I read these four letters over and over again with the papers getting soaked from my tears.Sienna did this? She did this to me?That Sienna betrayed me this much, and not only me, everyone in the pack! She lied that night, and I actually thought she was the innocent one out of this. I never expressed my hate once for her because I felt she did not deserve the unjustified hate. I might have expressed my complicated feelings towards her, but never hate. And now, I get this?I get this for not doubting her? These heart-shattering secrets from her?!Mine wasn’t even the least of it. She had deceived everyone in the pack and worst of all, Jared.Their pup, or rather Sienna and the Rogue Alpha’s pup.Jared didn’t even know the pup wasn’t his. I am certain he has never suspected once. Even I never suspected she could have done something like this. The night passes on, but I remain awake, readi
*I sensed him outside the border during a sleepover and I secretly went there. I was very disappointed to find that he was a rogue at first, but I didn’t mind, Selena. He was my mate, the one I have been dreaming of for many years.I even planned to migrate from the pack to the human society with him after school like other pack members with their rogue mates. I knew our parents would support any decision of my choice. If you remember, I had sleepovers at Emma’s or Blaire’s many times at some point. I was meeting him secretly in the forest under the guise of sleepovers.A border warrior was my accomplice because I told him about my rogue mate. He promised to hide my secret until I told everyone and helped me in meeting my mate.We talked. We laughed. We explored the forest in our werewolves together. Everything was perfect and so magical like a dream come true, Selena. I told him everything about myself and family, and he told me about himself. A rogue born from another rogue, and wor
