Chapter 63

**Ronan's POV**

The cafeteria looked like a war zone.

I stood among the wreckage, stepping over broken tables and scattered food, my wolf whimpering inside my chest. The silence felt wrong. Unnatural. Like the world had stopped breathing.

Evangeline was gone.

She'd run out of here twenty minutes ago, and I'd been frozen in place ever since. Frozen by the memory of what I'd witnessed. The raw power that had poured out of her like a dam bursting. The way she'd lifted Principal Morrison into the air with just a thought. The way shadows had moved around her like living things.

She wasn't what I'd thought she was. Wasn't what anyone had thought she was.

"We have to go after her." Maeve appeared beside me, her face grim with worry. "Now."

"She doesn't want to be found," I said, my voice hollow. "She made that clear."

"That doesn't matter." Maeve grabbed my arm, her grip surprisingly strong. "She's in danger. More danger than you can possibly understand."

  • THE ALPHA WHO HATED ME   Chapter 67

Chapter 67***Ronan point of view**The world came back to me in pieces.First, the smell of antiseptic and herbs. Then the soft murmur of voices talking above my head like I wasn't there. Finally, the crushing weight in my chest where my wolf should have been.Nothing. Complete emptiness.I tried to sit up, but my body felt like it was made of lead. Every muscle ached like I'd been trampled by a stampede. When I opened my eyes, bright light stabbed into my brain like knives."He's awake," someone said. A woman's voice I didn't recognize.Slowly, shapes began to form in the blur. My father stood beside the bed, his face hard as stone. My mother sat in a chair by the window, her back straight and her expression cold. Between them stood an elderly woman with wild gray hair and hands stained purple from whatever potions she'd been brewing. The pack magician. I'd only seen her once before, when I was a child and had broken my arm falling from a tree. She'd fixed the bone with a touch and

Chapter 66**Evangeline point of view**Silas held out his hand to me, and I stared at it for what felt like hours. This was it. The moment that would change everything.I placed my trembling fingers in his, and the world exploded around us.One second we were in the cursed woods, and the next we were falling through darkness so thick I couldn't breathe. My stomach dropped like I was plunging off a cliff. Silas's grip on my hand was the only thing keeping me from screaming. Then we hit solid ground.I stumbled, my knees buckling as we landed on cold stone. The air here was different, heavier, like breathing through water. It tasted of ancient magic and something else. Something that made my wolf pace nervously in my chest."Welcome home," Silas said softly, and the way he said it made my heart skip.I looked up and forgot how to breathe. We stood before a massive castle that seemed carved from midnight itself. Black stone walls rose into the sky like jagged teeth, disappearing into sw

  • THE ALPHA WHO HATED ME   Chapter 65

Chapter 65**Evangeline point of view**The forest breathed around me, ancient and alive. Each step I took deeper into the cursed woods felt like stepping into another world. The trees here were different, twisted, dark, their branches reaching toward me like desperate fingers. The air tasted of old magic and forgotten secrets. My heart still hammered from what happened at school. The memory of Celeste's face as I pinned her down, the terror in her eyes, the way my shadow magic had erupted like a volcano... it all replayed in my mind. I had almost killed her. I *wanted* to kill her.The thought should have scared me. Instead, it felt like relief.I walked until my legs shook, until the school was nothing but a bad dream behind me. The pendant Maeve gave me hung heavy around my neck, its warmth the only comfort I had left. But even that felt different now, weaker somehow, as if my rage had burned through its protection.A branch snapped behind me.I spun around, my heart jumping into m

Chapter 64**Ronan point of view**We searched until dawn. Maeve used magic to light our way, calling on powers I didn't understand. I shifted back and forth between forms, using every enhanced sense I had to look for any trace of her.But the forest had swallowed her completely. When the sun finally rose, we were no closer to finding her than when we'd started. My clothes were torn from scrambling over rocks. My hands were bloody from digging through debris. My voice was gone from calling her name."We have to go back," Maeve said finally. "People will be looking for us.""I'm not leaving her.""She's not here, Ronan. If she survived the fall, she's long gone by now. And if she didn't..."She didn't finish the sentence. She didn't need to.The walk back to civilization was the longest of my life. Each step took me further away from the place where I'd lost her. Where I'd failed her one final time.By the time we reached the school parking lot, word had already spread. Students and fa

Chapter 62**Evangeline's POV**"Evangeline." Maeve's voice cut through the roar of shadow magic surrounding me. "Look at me."I didn't want to look. Didn't want to see the disappointment in her eyes. Didn't want to face what I was becoming. My hands were still wrapped around Celeste's throat, power crackling between my fingers like hungry lightning."Child, this isn't you," Maeve said, stepping closer despite the darkness that hissed and writhed around me. "This isn't who you're meant to be.""How do you know who I'm meant to be?" The words came out distorted, layered with shadows that made my voice sound like multiple people speaking at once. "Maybe this is exactly who I am."Principal Morrison burst through the cafeteria doors with several teachers behind him. "What is the meaning of..."My shadow magic lashed out before I could think. Dark tendrils wrapped around the principal's body and lifted him into the air, suspending him twenty feet above the ground. He struggled against the
