Chapter Eighteen: Nice Work
Autumn POV
It was during English class, and Mey took the seat next to me at the back of the room. Jess had driven all of us to school that morning, and we had had a great laugh on the way despite the threat letter that had kept us awake the night before.
“Okay, class, I am going to distribute your tests results. Anyone who didn’t pass, kindly meet me after school to schedule your retest.” Joe held a stack of papers on his arm and started walking around, handing out our results.
He stopped by my table a few minutes later and put the paper on it. “Nice work, Miss Summers. It would have been an A-plus if not because of some minor mistakes on number three.”

If I had walked fast enough, I probably wouldn’t have heard her cry.
