Isabelle sat in the lawyers conference room as she waited for Lucas to arrive.

"Was I here earlier than I was meant to be?" She anxiously asked Lucas's lawyer as she looked at her phone to check what time it was.

"No, my client will be here anytime now." His lawyer responded confidently.

Isabelle scorfed. She had been sitting in that conference room for over forty-five minutes, and Lucas wasn't there yet.

Her stomach had turned and twisted more times than she thought possible.

'Where could he be?' she thought to herself.

She reached into her purse again, trying to grab her phone when she saw him, Her eyes found Lucas through the glass wall that separated the conference room and the hallway. 'How could anybody think a transparent boardroom would be a good idea?' She asked herself so many times since she had arrived. 'Aren't these types of these meant to be private?'

Lucas walked majestically as he came in. He walked as if he were a model on a runway and there were people waiting to take a picture.

'How typical of him,' Isabelle tried to look away but something about how confident he carried himself around drew her even more to him.

Isabelle was star-struck at his sight. She remembered why she had fallen for him in the first place. He knew how to put himself together good enough to turn heads. And he did turn heads. Every female in the entire building stared as he walked.

'Is he wearing a new suit?' Isabelle thought to herself as she stared at him with every step he took. Isabelle knew Lucas only wore new suits to very important business meetings to impress his clients or potential clients and to very important celebrations or occasions. 'Does he consider this a very important meeting, or does he think this is a very important occasion?' Her heart rate increased, and she started sweating. She was relieved that he cardigan would at least hide that fact and was grateful for the working air-conditioning in the room. 'I mean, what else would I expect from Lucas's lawyer?'.

Lucas was accompanied by two women, his mother and someone else Isabelle did not recognise.

The trio walked into the conference roo. and took their seats. Lucas's lawyer greated them and started the meeting by introducing himself.

But before he could finish, Lucas interrupted him, "Where's your lawyer, Isabelle?" Lucas said as he adjusted his tie.

Isabelle almost spoke when she noticed the cufflinks he had on, and her heart sunk at the realization. Lucas wasn't here to play games or teach her a lesson or any other reasons and scenarios she had created in her head. He really wanted out.

Lucas had on the cufflinks his grandfather had passed down to his father, who had also passed them down to him. He loved those cufflinks so much that he reserved them for important events only. He considered them his good luck charms.

'He needs luck to get divorced?' Isabelle thought.

Lucy snapped her fingers, bringing back Isabelle to reality. "Did you not hear my son speak? or have you suddenly become utterly useless?" Lucy barked.

The unknown lady let out a laugh.

Isabelle knew Lucy wasn't one to reason, and so she knew that not even talking back at her would help her know her place. So she decided to be the bigger person and took the higher road.

"I don't need counsel present." Isabelle said as she crossed her hands in front of her. "I have had enough time to read through the divorce papers and because I am not illiterate," placing emphasis on the word illiterate while staring at Lucy, she continued, "I understand every sentence perfectly."

"Good." the lawyer said, "that means we can all agree and go on..."

"I wasn't done talking," Isabelle chimmed in. "After 16 years of my life that I have given to you and this marriage? after everything you have put me through?" She brought one hand to her chest beating it softly, "this is all you think I deserve, Lucas?"

Lucy tried to speak, but Isabelle threw her other hand in the air towards her, indicating she didn't want to hear whatever Lucy was about to say.

Lucy scorfed and mouthed "rude" under her breath.

"A car that was originally your gift to me and a few hundred thousand worth in settlement?" Tears formed in Isabelle's eyes, she didn't want to let Lucy think she was winning so she took in deep breaths as she trued to calm herself down in order to get through the meeting without crying.

"Ungrateful!" Lucy stood from her seat and hit the table. She pointed at Isabelle, and on top of her voice, "I always knew you were just looking for an easy way out when you married my son!" she said. " You should be kissing his feet for not leaving you out on the street. You get to walk away with way more than you came into this family with, and you have the nerve to complain?".

She let out a fake laugh as she continued, "Did you somehow forget about the prenuptial agreement you signed?"

Lucy turned towards Lucas and said, "I told it was necessary, If you hadn't listened to me, she would be extorting everything your father worked so hard to build! I always wonder what you saw in this nobody!" Lucy ended as she sat back down.

Isabelle sat there for a moment, hoping Lucas would say something, anything in her honour, if not for anything, then for the love and care she had shown him the last sixteen years.

But he didn't. He sat there quietly and unapologetically.

"Sign the damn papers, Isabelle." Was all he said.

Isabelle had always known Lucas was his mommy's boy, but she always hoped that one day he would grow up and stand up for himself. Now, it was evident to her that that day was never coming.

She signed the divorce papers, and part of her was relieved she wouldn't have to live through the torture and pain she had lived through the last 3 years of her marriage.

Yet another part of her shattered in tiny pieces that could never be fixed again.

Isabelle moved closer to the door. There was total silence for a moment and she wondered if everyone had just disappeared into thin air as she did not hear any footsteps that would entail their leaving.“What the fuck did you just say?” Lucas’s voice broke the silence. Before Marcus could respond, Isabelle heard more footsteps. Heavier footstep walked up the hallway and Isabelle assumed it was the building security. 'One of the neighbours must have called them,' she thought to herself and realised that she was still clutching her phone in her hand.Mark tried to calm the situation by talking calmly and reassuring them that there had been a simple misunderstanding which had already been sorted but Lucas was too hot headed and, in the moment, too upset to even listen.Isabelle remembered she had an eye hole in her door she could use to peep through. She was more than curious to out a picture to all she had heard. So, Isabelle moved even closer to her front door and began to peep. Even t

Isabelle was ashamed. She did not get the answer she hoped she would from Marcus, but it was not as if he said he would not do it.She knew he would not take it lightly but a part of her expected him to understand and even agree. She also knew how fond of her he was and hoped that her charm would work this time as it always has.Isabelle knew that it was selfish of her to use Marcus’s feelings for her to get what she wanted but she really needed him to do this for her.“Thank you for walking me up.” Isabelle said to Marcus as she unlocked the door to her apartment.“No need to thank me.” Marcus said quietly. He sensed that Isabelle was not too happy with the response he had given her earlier on whether or not he could pretend he was her unborn baby’s biological father.Marcus would have loved to do anything Isabelle asked him to do, even without question but something about this request did not sit right with him.Isabelle finally managed to unlock her front door and opened it slightl

Lucas felt a sting in his chest after he heard what Mark had said. He wanted to argue, give his reasons, reasons that he thought would somehow justify his actions, both past and present but he could not.He knew that no amount of excuses would rectify what he did or the results thereafter and most importantly, he knew that Mark was not in any way trying to spite him or drag him further in the ground than he already was. Mark had always been there for him, especially in times like these. Times in which all he needed to hear was the truth. Even if it was the hard truth. It did not make it easier or lessen the pain he felt but it helped him think a little clearer and more realistic than he previously was.“Do you think she was cheating on me with him?” Lucas finally placed his glass down and let it go. He brushed his fingers through his hair again.“Isabelle?” The shock on Mark’s face was as clear as day.Lucas saw the look on Mark’s face and he immediately realized that he was being sil

Lucas sat the bar alone, if not for the almost glass of whisky that sat on the counter in front of him. He thought hard about the decisions he had made. The decision that had led him here. The decision that had broken him this bad and made him, for the first time in his entire adult life feel weak and uncertain about who he was or what he would do to sort out his problem.Lucas felt a palm on his hand, He lifted his head to see who it was and was met with a familiar voice before he could turn his head to look.“Lucas Archer? With his head bowed? In public?” Mark Quinn, Lucas’s long-time best friend mocked jokingly.“Lucy was right, you have really lost your spark.” Mark continued as he took a seat next to Lucas at the bar.“A glass of whatever my good friend is drowning in please.” Mark waved to the man behind the bar.“How did she know I was here?” Lucas asked and the sighed.“She did not.” Mark responded. The bar tender placed a glass in front of Mark and began to pour brown liquor.

  • THE BILLIONAIRES LOST LOVE   Chapter 64

After a week of sulking and throwing a pity party, Lucas decided it was time to do exactly what Isabelle had done. Get over their time together and move on with his life.He had acknowledged within himself that he may have been wrong to treat her he way he did and divorce her in the manner that he had. He loved her through all the harshness and the pretence of not caring about her or about their union and the promises made to each other. But she should have waited, she should have given him time to figure it all out. Time to figure out how he could be with her without breaking his promise to his mother but she did not.‘The very first thing she did after getting divorced was find a new man and get pregnant by him.’ He thought.‘How dare she go to the hospital that she very well knows I practically own and even go to myself for medical attention? Did she want me to see her there with that man? See that she had moved on with someone else? That she was having his baby?’ Lucas began to ob

"I have thought hard about how I would like to proceed with all this and I did not come up with anything, unfortunately. So much to think of and consider. In the meantime, though, I would like to ask if you are okay with me not clearing the air about what Lucas's wife to be assumed." The text message ended.Marcus read the last part of the text message three times. He could not comprehend it.At some point, mid-way through the text message, he had assumed Isabelle would suggest ending whatever was going on between them, but she did not. Instead she asked him if he was alright with pretending to be her baby's father.Marcus had already silently placed himself as a stand in father for her child and was more than willing to be her or his legal father if he was allowed to of course be, but this? this was a different request. She was asking him to be her child's pretend father not a stand in father but a pretend one.Marcus weighed his options, he considered what would be of his yet to be
