The elevator doors opened slowly. Nathan stepped into the hospital corridor and looked around. It was late. Most of the lights had been dimmed, and only a few nurses moved quietly through the hallway.

He asked a nurse if someone named Serena was in the hospital. The nurse gave him directions. Then he started walking. He wasn’t sure what he expected to find. Maybe Serena is sitting alone with who she was there with. Maybe she would be awake and waiting for him. Maybe he would finally get the ch

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 152- THE APOLOGY I NEVER EXPECTED

I pushed the door open slowly and stepped into Sister Margaret’s room. She was awake. Her eyes moved toward me, and a weak smile appeared on her face. I walked straight to her bedside and sat down. “You scared me,” I whispered. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I didn’t mean to.” I held her hand carefully. It felt cold. “Don’t apologize. Just get better.” She gave a small nod. “You stayed.” “Of course I stayed.” “Please don’t worry about anything right now,” I told her. “You need to rest.” She squeezed my fingers weakly. “But there are things you need to know.” “I know.” “Have you gone through all the documents?” I shook my head. “Not yet. There was too much happening.” She breathed slowly. “There is one thing you should know before you leave.” I leaned closer. “What is it?” “Your father.” My heart skipped. “My father?” Sister Margaret nodded. “He is alive.” For a moment, I couldn’t speak. “You’re sure?” “Yes.” I stared at her, trying to understand what she had just said. “W

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 151- WHEN THE TRAP CLOSES

The next morning began like any other. The sun had barely risen properly when Clara took Lila and Elias to school. Both children were unusually quiet. “Is Mommy coming home today?” Lila asked from the back seat. Clara glanced at her through the mirror. “Yes. She will.” “Promise?” Clara smiled. “Promise.” Elias leaned against the window. “Tell Mommy I want pancakes when she comes home.” “I will.” “And tell her I miss her.” Clara’s smile softened. “I’ll tell her.” At Lumina Studio, Emma arrived earlier than usual. She stepped out of the elevator with a cup of coffee in one hand and Serena’s empty office in the back of her mind. She unlocked her office and placed her bag down. “Another long day,” she whispered. She had barely opened her laptop when the receptionist’s phone rang downstairs. “Good morning, Lumina Studio. How may I help you?” Her expression changed. “Excuse me?” She listened carefully. “Who gave you that information?” A pause. “I’m sorry, but Lumina has mad

Maybe he would finally get the chance to talk to her about everything that had happened earlier. But he wasn’t prepared for what he saw. He stopped. Serena was asleep in one of the chairs outside a private room. Her head rested gently against Adrian’s shoulder. Nathan’s entire body went still. For several seconds, he didn’t move. He simply stared at them. Adrian noticed him. Their eyes met. Neither man said a word. Adrian carefully shifted his shoulder, making sure Serena’s head remained comfortable. Nathan saw the movement.

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 149- THE NIGHT NOBODY EXPECTED

I looked at the clock on the hospital wall. It was already getting late. I picked up my phone and called Emma. She answered almost immediately. “Serena?” “I won’t be coming home tonight.” There was a short silence. “You’re staying at the hospital?” “Yes. I don’t want to leave Sister Margaret alone.” Emma sighed softly. “Alright. I understand.” “Please look after Lila and Elias for me.” “I will.” “Make sure they eat properly. Elias will probably complain about the vegetables, so don’t let him win.” Emma laughed. “I know him too well.” “And Lila?” “She’s already asking when you’re coming home.” My chest tightened. “Tell her I’ll see her tomorrow.” “I will.” I lowered my voice. “Thank you, Emma. For everything.” “Don’t worry about anything here. Just take care of yourself.” The call ended. I lowered my phone and leaned back in the chair outside Sister Margaret’s room. The hallway was quiet now. Most of the visitors had gone home, leaving only the soft footsteps of nurse

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 148- SHADOWS AFTER HOURS

The afternoon passed quietly at Lumina Studio. Without Serena in the office, everyone worked a little harder to keep things moving. She had only instructed Emma to reschedule all her meetings. That was enough. No one asked questions. Inside the design department, sketches covered the tables. Designers discussed color palettes while others made last-minute changes to client presentations. Emma walked through the office, stopping at different desks. “How’s the Harper campaign?” “We’ve finished the final draft.” “Good. Send it to the client before six.” “Yes, Ms. Emma.” She moved to another team. “What about the Riverside project?” “We’re exporting the final video now.” “Excellent.” Everything was running smoothly. Just as Serena would have wanted. On another floor, Clara looked at the clock hanging on the wall. School would be closing soon. She picked up her handbag and walked into Emma’s office. “I’m leaving now.” Emma looked up from her laptop. “To pick up the kids from sc

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 147- A HEART WORTH SAVING

I stood frozen beside Sister Margaret’s bed. Her eyes remained closed. The last thing she had whispered still echoed inside my head. Then I heard hurried footsteps. The door opened, and two nurses walked in with a doctor behind them. “Excuse us,” the doctor said. “We need to examine the patient.” I quickly stepped aside. The nurses checked the machines connected to Sister Margaret. One looked worried. The doctor listened to her heartbeat for a long moment before removing his stethoscope. His expression wasn’t good. I felt my stomach tighten. “Doctor… what’s wrong?” He looked at me. “I’m afraid her condition is much more serious than we first believed.” “What do you mean?” He glanced at the monitor before answering. “Her heart is failing rapidly.” I stared at him. “I thought you said she was stable.” “She is… for now.” Those two words frightened me more than anything else. He continued calmly. “The medication is only keeping her alive temporarily. It won’t solve the problem.”

I stayed slumped against the wall for a long time, his release still sliding down my thighs. The house was quiet now. Too quiet. Later that night, I couldn’t sleep. I wandered the halls, trying to find water, when I heard voices from the guest wing, low, intimate. I froze outside the slightly aj

Where is Lia?” He asked again. His voice cut through the room like something sharp. I didn’t answer. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t know where to start. He swung his legs off the bed and stood up, running a hand through his hair. The calm from last night was gone. What stood in

He smiled. Soft. Warm. Almost boyish. “There you are,” he murmured. My heart dropped. Because even now… He still thought I was Lia. He stepped in, jacket already off, shirt partially unbuttoned, the scent of whiskey and cologne clinging to him. His movements were unstable from drinking, but ther

The days before the wedding passed like a blur I couldn’t escape. People moved in and out of the house carrying fabrics, jewelry, flowers, and invitations while I stood in the middle of it all feeling completely detached. Measurements were taken and dresses were fitted. Every room was filled with
