By the time I drove to Evangeline's house, it was around nine in the night but her neighborhood was as quite as a graveyard. No wonder why she chose this locality with mostly old people living their solitary lives.

She loves peace and good company.

With nervousness blocking my confidence, I pressed her doorbell and waited for her wrath to burst on me as soon as she opens the door but nothing happened.

I pressed it again and waited. Perhaps, she's tucking our son in his bed.

Our son!

It filled my heart with an unknown emotion but it wasn't bitter but gave me a sense of contentment.

Five minutes passed but no response came which increased my anxiety. What if she's in somr kind of trouble.

Dogs were barking in the background.

"They're not here, Stranger!" I heard an old man shouting.

I turned around and found an old couple with dogs. Both human and their dogs were glaring at me like I'm a thief or serial killer.
