I walked into Sapphire Lounge, a famous and expensive bar in New York. The colorful flickering lights and the girls in skimpy clothes dancing seductively, when was the last time I came to a bar?
“ Hey! When you said we’re going clubbing, I thought you meant a regular club,” my best friend, Cario tugged on my gown. “ I thought you said we were going to have fun tonight. Are you having second thoughts now?” I frowned, slightly disappointed. “ I might even snag myself a man for the night,” I laughed eccentrically. “ That’s obviously not it and you want to have a fling? Anyway, my problem here is how are we supposed to afford anything here?” She pointed at the expensive lounge we had entered. “ We’re college students,” she reminded me. “ Have you forgotten that I’m from a wealthy family?” I turned around to look at her. “ How can I not remember? That’s even how we were able to get in to begin with,” she folded her arms. “ I plan on using my allowance tonight so you don’t need to worry. For tonight, I’ll be Isabella Genovese,” I stated as I continued walking, weaving my way through the people around. “ I thought you said you wouldn’t use your dad’s money ever!? Isn’t that why you’ve been working part-time and even got a scholarship?” She followed me behind. I stopped abruptly in my tracks. “ Yes, I said that but I’m really feeling out of it right now. It’s like my heart has been torn into shreds,” tears gathered in my eyes as I expressed. “ Can’t I just let loose for once?” The moment I asked, I felt a hand on my back. “ You don’t have to explain yourself to me, I understand,” she moved her hand from my back to my hair, ruffling it. “ Come on, let’s party till daybreak!” She said enthusiastically. “ You can’t say no to a party, can you?” I laughed. “ You know me too well,” she winked. Grabbing me gently by the wrist, she took me to the counter to sit. “ Two bottles of Smirnoff vodka Red,” she ordered and the bartender stared at us awkwardly. “ Hey! Are you planning on embarrassing us here?” I pulled her hand down and whispered. “ What did I do wrong?” She whispered back, her voice hinting impatience. “ Look around you, we’re at a luxury lounge. We’re going to look like bums here if you order a fifteen dollar drink,” I said in a hushed tone. “ It’s twenty dollars though,” she pouted with folded arms. “ I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. My friend here isn’t all that familiar with the drinks you have,” I laughed awkwardly, scratching the back of my head. “ We’ll have two bottles of Diamond is Forever Martini,” I gave a warm smile, hoping he hadn’t already begun suspecting us. “ If you don’t mind, I’d like to verify who you are,” the bartender said. I knew he was wary of us now. I took out my ID and handed it over to him. “ I’m Isabella Genoveseand I came here to have a good time with my friend,” I said as he looked at it. “ I-I’m sorry for bothering you,” he bowed his head in apology. I guess being a Genovesewasn’t all that bad. “ It’s fine so just get us our drinks,” I waved it off. I just wanted to cry my heart out and everything and everyone keeps ruining the mood to be depressed. He came back in a few minutes with glasses and two bottles of what we ordered. I and Cario started drinking without saying a word to each other. “ What?! He cheated with who?!” Cario raised her voice as I narrated everything to her in my tipsy state. “ I always knew he was nothing but trash,” she spat. I had just been dumped and to make it worse, my boyfriend, Levi, had been cheating on me with my sister. “ I feel like garbage,” I smacked my head against the counter in agony. “ I thought things like this only happen in movies,” Cario clenched her glass. “ To think he’d do that to you after all the years you’ve spent together,” she was angry. Maybe even angrier than I was since she had never liked him. I and Levi had been dating for five years now and even our families were aware of it. Just like I was, Levi was also from a wealthy family and we even promised to get married after we’re done with uni. “ Damn it!” I cussed through grit teeth. I hated how I was feeling. I wish everything that had happened was a lie or at least that it didn’t affect me. “ I always knew something was odd about him. I never liked how he acted,” Cario said.Isabella's POV.NINE MONTHS LATER.The first cry filled the room and I felt a rush of emotions. It was my baby's cry as my daughter's voice claimed her space in the world. My chest heaved as I held on to Declan's hand. His fingers were tight around mine and his eyes were wet and unblinking.“She is here. Declan our baby is here.” I whispered as tears streaked down my face. The doctor smiled warmly at us as he placed my tiny bundle against my chest. My baby girl was so small and so perfect. Skin was warm and her little fists were clenched tightly as if she was already ready to fight the world. The moment had my cheek pressed against me. I knew that I was never going to be the same again.“She is beautiful Isabella. She looks just like you.” Declan said as he leaned in closer. And I let out a shaky laugh because I was overwhelmed by everything.“No, there is no way she definitely looks like me throughout. From what I'm seeing here she has your mouth, I mean look at the shape of her lip
Isabella's POV.One month later, the pregnancy test strip sat on the bathroom counter like it held the whole world inside it.It showed me two pink lines and it was clear and unmistakable. My hands shook as I grabbed the pregnancy strip tighter than ever. My breath got trapped in my chest and for a moment I couldn't move. The sound of Aria's laughter sounded faintly in my ears despite the fact that I was in the bathroom. She was in the living room where she was watching cartoons with her brother. And the ordinary noise of home life suddenly felt surreal. But inside of me something extraordinary was happening again. I was pregnant again. My eyes welled up with tears because after everything Declan and I had gone through. The betrayals, the lies, the separation, the wars we fought just to find each other again. This felt like the universe handing us a miracle. But along with the joy I had I felt scared. Or should I rather say I felt fear inside of me? What if Declan wasn't ready for
Isabella's POV.The police car flashing lights still glowed faintly through the curtains as I stood frozen in the spot I was in as I tried to catch my breath. Sabrina screams echoed in my ears and it was sharp and desperate. Even though she was already gone. She had already been arrested for fraud manipulation. There was no better way to punish her for her sins and Declan made sure to get her arrested. She was punished for every cruel lie she had built her life upon.I pressed my hand against my chest, steadying the fast beating of my heart. Declan stood beside me and his face was still pale.We had returned back to the same house that I left and for the first time in so many years , everything looked very clean to me. Like the poison had been drawn out of it but yet there was still no celebration in his eyes, only sorrow. He looked at Ethan who was so small as he stood by the door, clutching the sleeve of his biological father.I wanted to cry as Ethan looked at us and heartbreak wa
Declan's POV.I held the envelope in my hand like it was poison. My chest burned and my throat was tight but yet I couldn't let it go.The DNA reports felt heavier than any deal I had ever signed. It was heavier than all of the years I had worked to build my empire. Sabrina was standing in the living room and her arms were folded across her chest. She looked defensive and scared at the same time. Isabella was beside me but she was very quiet and I could feel her steady presence at my side. She was calm in the storm, though I knew fire burned in her too.“Do you have anything to say for yourself?” I asked with a cracked voice as I threw the envelope on the coffee table.“I was prepared for all of these because you already gave me the information over the phone but I want you to know that, whatever that paper says then it is a very big lie. Isabella is behind all of these and I'm sure she's the one who told you to run the DNA test right? Isn't she? She's just a jealous woman and she's
