Chapter 1

WHAT WRONG WITH MY HUSBAND?

Daisy Montero Dante stood staring out her bedroom window on a cold wet night, waiting for her husband to get home.

She should have gotten used to it by now, because he had been coming home late or not at all for the previous two weeks they had been married.

This wasn't right, she sighed deeply.

She had no idea where she had gone wrong; her husband Steven had been sweet and appreciative of her since the day they met.

She had never expected her marriage to be this unpleasant; not only did he rarely speak to her, but he never acknowledged her as his wife except on a few times when they had to attend social functions together.

She let out another deep sign,She needed to talk to Steven and ask him what was wrong and what she could do to improve their marriage.

As she reached for her phone, the booming sound of her ringtone jolted her out of her reverie.

It was her father who called; she checked the time on the wall clock, 11 p.m., and wondered why he would call so late.

"Hey Dad," she said, attempting to sound as though she had just awoken from a deep sleep.

"My Dear, how are you doing, are you okay?" Her father inquired,

She stepped away from the window and sat on her bed.

"Of course, Dad," she promptly lied. She had not told her father about her current position with her husband because she was afraid of disappointing him.

He had been opposed to the fast wedding from the start, as any reasonable father would be. She had only been seeing Steven for 11 days before announcing their unexpected engagement.

He had expressed his suspicion that Steven wanted to marry her for his selfish gain, but it did not make sense at the time. Steven Dante was one of the youngest successful CEOs in New York, sure her father was a billionaire, but Steve also had money, but looking back on the two weeks of their marriage, she now felt that perhaps she had been too naive.

"Where is your husband?" Her father surprisingly inquired.

"He is working late, he will be back any second now," she lied hurriedly, hoping that her voice wouldn't sell her out.

"Perhaps you don't know the man you married; he's in a hotel right now with another woman Daisy; you must leave him," Daisy's pulse was hammering as if she had just finished a marathon.

Another lady? This had to be a mistake, right?

"She is one of his business partners, Dad; why are you following my husband?, You promised to stay out of my marriage."

"I know honey, but I can't let that man disrespect you in this way, tell me, are you unhappy?, you know all you have to do is tell me and I will make sure you divorce him before you know it," she knew her father's words were not to be taken lightly. She loved Steve and wanted their marriage to work.

"No, Dad, please stay out of this, Good night," she pleaded before hanging up the phone.

She sat on her bed and placed her phone on the side table.

She couldn't stop thinking about what her father had just said, and whether or not he was already cheating on her with another lady.

No, it was just impossible, she reasoned. Something was wrong with Steve, but it wasn't because of another woman.

Daisy was awakened a few hours later by her phone ringing; she rubbed her weary eyes as she took the call.

"Hello, who is this?" She inquired, noticing that it was still dark outside through the glass window.

"Mrs. Dante, this is Dave." Alex's driver spoke up, and she immediately sat up, terrified.

"Dave, what happened?" She inquired.

"Mr. Dante was involved in a car accident"

"What, how, and where?" She asked at once worry consuming her.

"We are currently at the hospital, i will explain everything when you get here." Daisy hung up the phone and hurriedly dressed.

She was still in shock and worried about Steve's possible health.

She got the awful sensation that her father was behind it all; after all, he knew where Steve was and was probably watching, she really hoped that wasn't the case. She arrived at the hospital 30 minutes later and immediately met Dave.

"What happened to him, Dave, and how is he?" Dave did not answer to her question, but instead led her to the room Steve was in.

Daisy's eyes were drawn to Steve, and she was taken aback by the revelation that she had been correct.

Steve hadn't been in a vehicle accident or anything like that, as she had been told; he had been attacked, as the wounds on his body suggested. Daisy turned to face Dave.

"Who was it that did this to him?" Dave cleared his throat lightly as she questioned sharply.

"I don't know, ma'am," he responded nicely. Daisy appeared to be thinking for a few seconds, her gaze set on something.

A Doctor entered the room just then and began to introduce himself.

"Good day, Doctor." "How is my husband doing?" She inquired, wiping away a tear that had fallen down her cheek.

"He'll be fine, the wounds are minor, and he should be able to wake up when the medication wears off," the Doctor replied, checking Steve's temperature and eyes before returning his attention to Daisy.

"Do you have any way of contacting the other lady's relatives? She is in a much worse condition." Daisy shifted her gaze from the Doctor to Dave, whose face was lowered.

When her father told her Steve was seeing another lady, she hadn't believed him. She couldn't help but be unhappy; what could he have been doing at 4 a.m. with a woman if she wasn't his lover?

"What, which woman Doctor?" She inquired when she eventually found her voice.

"Mr. Dante was brought in with a woman, and they were attacked together, didn't he?" the Doctor paused mid-sentence, as if realizing something.

"I'll take my leave," he stated as he exited the Room.

Daisy's heart ached as she glanced at Steve; she couldn't decide what hurt more: the fact that he was laying there lifeless or the knowledge that he was cheating on her.

"You are excused," she murmured to Dave, sighing deeply. She began to cry as Dave left the room, releasing all of her misery.

How could Steve do this to her? she questioned herself over and over as she sobbed, she had been nothing short of a wonderful wife, she couldn't understand what she had done wrong or rather what she lacked for her Husband to cheat on her in the second week of their married Life...
