Chapter 2

MAKE ME UNDERSTAND

Daisy awoke around 8 a.m. the next morning to the sound of someone knocking on the door.

She massaged her weary eyes before rising to answer the door, pausing for a brief moment to inspect Steve's sleeping frame.

Dave was waiting for her when she answered the door, holding a cup of coffee.

"Thank you, Dave," she said, a little smile on her face.

"You're welcome; how is Sir?" Daisy gave Steve a sidelong glance as she spoke.

"He hasn't yet woken up"

"I'll be outside in case you need anything," Dave added, and she thanked him again before closing the door.

As she took a seat, she clutched her coffee and began to sip it, recalling the woman Steve had been with.

She was desperate to find out who she was and resolved to ask Dave later which room she was in.

She ran to the bed as she noticed Steve start to move.

"Are you okay, should I call the doctor?" She stumbled,

When Steve's eyes met hers, she couldn't help but notice Anger in them, and she began to wonder what she had said incorrectly.

"Steve.."

"What exactly are you doing here, and where is Lizzy?" He shaved her hand away.

"Lizzy?" She repeated before realizing that the other woman's name was presumably Lizzy.

"Where is she?" He inquired once more,

"Steven, you didn't come home last night, and despite finding out you were with some woman in a hotel, I drove here at the middle of the night to come here, and the first thing you ask me is about another Woman?" Her voice was trembling as she struggled to suppress her rage.

"Tell me straight up, is she your mistress?" Steve was quiet for a few seconds before he let out a giggle when she inquired, her tears blurring her vision.

"What's funny, do you think I look funny, and is that why you left me at home and went to sleep with another woman?" She insisted.

"How did you find out we were staying at a hotel, you had me followed, You sent those men to assault us, didn't you?" Daisy was rendered speechless. How could he accuse her of anything like that, much alone assume she did it?

"Steve, how could you even," she paused mid-sentence and took a long breath. Steve retrieved his phone from the table beside his bed and dialed a number.

"Where have you gone? Come to the room I'm in," he added before hanging up the phone.

Dave came in a minute later.

"Get me a wheelchair," Steve remarked, Dave nodded and exited the room once more.

"Where are you planning to go?" Daisy inquired, but Steve did not respond and sat up in bed with a painful grit. Dave returned a moment later with a wheelchair and assisted him in sitting in it.

"Steve, where are you going?" She asked again As Steve began to wheel himself out of the room,

"Steve!!" She called when he did not respond

"I'm going to see Lizzy," he finally said, and Daisy followed him.

Her pulse was pounding every second; she never imagined this once romantic CEO would ever treat her this way, so she followed her husband to the next room, where a woman was waiting.

Her face was swollen, but she recognized this woman right away.

She'd never forget her after making such a spectacular debut at their wedding.

She recalls asking Steve about the woman during the ceremony, and he told her she was a family acquaintance.

She hadn't been suspicious of anything because the woman had been friendly and knew Steven's parents.

"This, Steve, what's going on?" She inquired, trying to make sense of everything.

In response, Steve went up to the woman's bedside, and when he held her hand, she gave a feeble smile.

"Are you feeling okay?" He inquired.

"I'm fine," she said softly.

"I was worried sick about you, I apologize for putting you through this, and I promise I will deal with the person responsible for everything that happened." Daisy looked about as if she was having a nightmare.

She rubbed her eyes to be sure it wasn't all a dream, the way he held her hand and gazed at her with such compassionate eyes.

She had had enough of the disrespect and stepped over to the bed.

"Steve, Answer my question, is she your mistress?" She inquired, her voice breaking,

"Who exactly is this?" The woman inquired, staring at Daisy, who appeared more fragile and sad than when they stepped in, making Daisy wonder whether she was acting.

There was no way this Lizzy lady had forgotten her when she was present at their wedding.

"Don't mind her, you need to get better okay," he said as he brushed his lips against her palm before turning to face Daisy with a stern scowl.

"Go home, Daisy," he instructed.

"you want me to go home?" Daisy asked in disbelief

"Steve, I'm not leaving until you tell me what's going on here."

"You want to know so badly, don't you?Well, yes, she is my woman, and neither of us wants to see you here," he said, as Daisy burst into tears.

"How could you do this to me? Tell me what I did, where I went wrong, please make me understand Steve," she pleaded desperately.

"Dave, get her out of here; she's making too much noise for Lizzy." Steve turned to face Dave.

"Ma'am, please this way," Dave said as Daisy refused to let go.

"Why are you doing this to me, don't you love me anymore, why are you hurting me like this?" She insisted on knowing.

"Steve, talk to me please" She kneeled in front of him and attempted to reach out for his hand but he yanked her off causing her to fall to the floor,

She lay on the cold floor crying, not because she had been hurt physically but because of the emotional pain she was feeling,

Dave eventually helped her up and walked her out of the Room,

"Dave, what's, what's wrong with my husband, what did I do to him, please make me understand, why did he treat me that way?" She asked in a Confused shaky voice,

Dave did not respond to her but instead took her to her car and drove her home,

During the ride, Daisy continued to cry, Dave would occasionally look at her through the review mirror, it was evident that he pitied her but there was nothing he could do but keep shut and watch.

When they reached the house, he dropped her off and went back to the hospital.

A dejected Daisy walked into the house,

Her heart had never hurt like this before, she felt a huge lump in her throat and failed to walk to their bedroom so instead, she took a seat on the cold floor,

She could still remember clearly how Steve had treated that woman,

She didn't believe how things quickly change in a short time,

She had been a good wife who loved her husband and was looking forward to spending the rest of her life with him but all that changed in just a few minutes,

In that hospital room not only had she felt she had lost her husband but along with that, her dignity and self-respect were lost as well,

He had disrespected her in the most horrible way possible, she wiped the tears from her face and reached for her phone before she realized it wasn't with her, She figured she had left it at the hospital and dejectedly forced herself to stand up. Just as she was about to head to her room,

She heard the doorbell ring, wondering who it was, she wiped her face with the sleeve of her sweatshirt and opened the door.

A young man probably in his late twenties stood there, he had dark hair and a tall frame,

"Mrs. Dante?" He asked with a massive smile, Daisy cleared her throat,

"Yes" she answered her voice hoarse from crying

"I finally have the honor to meet you," he said, Daisy looked at him confused, she was certain she had never seen this man before

"My name is Alex Dante, your husband's brother", Daisy quickly moved aside to let him in,

She knew Steve had a young brother but this was the first time she was seeing him, he had been unable to attend the wedding due to some personal issues, she didn't know anything about him except that he was Steve's brother.

"Please come in," she said, she led him to the living room and watched him take a sit

"Can I get you anything?"

"No, am here to see Steve, I did not find him at the company and figured he would be home" Alex explained

"He is at the hospital, he was involved in a minor accident", Even the thought of what he could have been doing before the said 'minor accident' made her heart ache badly

"What happened to him?" Alex asked, even with everything going on, Daisy did not miss his unconcerned tone and found it quite odd

"I don't know," she said as she realized Steve had not even told her what had happened,

"Are you okay, your hand, you are hurt", he quickly reached for her hand where a small cut was visible, it had happened when Steve yanked her off,

She let out a sigh and forced a smile

"Am fine, I will get it cleaned up", Even though this was Steve's brother, she didn't find the need to let him know what was currently going on between her and Steve.

"Make sure you get it cleaned before it gets infected, I will take my leave now, it was nice meeting you Mrs. Dante" Daisy still found it odd that he was showing concern over a small cut while she just told him his brother was at the hospital, she wondered what kind of relationship the two shared but didn't think much of it.

"Please, call me Daisy" She walked him to the door and waved him off.

Immediately she closed the door after him,

She reached for the landline, she needed to talk to her father right away...
