POV: Gabriel Navarro
The door had barely closed behind her when Gabriel leaned back in his chair, brow furrowed.
Elise Ramos.
She was beautiful — but not the polished kind he usually dealt with.
And those eyes...
I’ve seen them before. Haven’t I?
Gabriel reached across the desk and pulled her resume back toward him.
He scanned it again. Name. Birthdate. Education. Work experience.
“Single mother.”
He flipped to the second page. Employment gap: 7 years ago.
Exactly 7 f*cking years ago.
That was Baguio.
He swallowed hard.
That night — he never remembered all of it.
Rain. A red dress. A woman crying while laughing. Warm skin. The smell of cheap whiskey and lavender.
He remembered waking up in a hotel room, alone. Sheets cold. No name, no number. Just a dull ache and emptiness.
He had been too wasted to care.
“Is it possible?” he muttered, rubbing his temple.
“No... It can’t be.”
But still…
He couldn’t shake it.
He was already two shots in when she slid onto the barstool next to him.
“Broken din?” she asked, not looking at him.
He didn’t answer right away.
“Something like that,” he muttered, taking another drink.
She smelled like rain. Her eyeliner was smudged. She looked like someone who’d cried for hours, then said “f*ck it.”
He respected that.
“Love is bullshit,” she said, raising her glass.
“To careers over relationships,” he replied.
“To cheaters and liars,” she added.
They clinked glasses.
They talked about how love ruins people. How fathers fail and mothers stay silent.
He didn’t ask for her name. She didn’t ask for his.
There was no flirting. No seduction.
Just... pain. Shared between strangers.
And then… silence.
“Do you want to forget tonight?” she asked, voice barely above a whisper.
He looked at her — really looked at her.
Broken. Beautiful.
And for the first time in weeks, he felt something.
“…Yes.”
Her body was warm. Her hands, trembling.
They didn’t speak after.
No goodbye.
Gabriel tossed the resume onto the table, frustrated.
Could it really be her?
And if it is… why the hell does it bother me this much?
He looked out at the skyline.
The past…
Gabriel Navarro.
Karma ba 'to? Tadhana? Kalokohan?
Umikot ang mundo niya nung nagkatinginan sila. Pero ‘yung way na tumingin siya kanina…
Parang may naaalala siya.
“Have we met before?”
Oo. Sa hotel room. Sa ilalim ng ulan. Sa gabi'ng pareho tayong sirang-sira.
Pero hindi niya pwedeng sabihin ’yon.
Napatingin siya sa bintana ng bus.
Sofia’s face flashed in her mind. Yung ngiti, yung kulit, yung mata...
Mata ni Gabriel.
Sh*t.
He didn’t leave the office.
“Single mother…”
He read the line over and over again.
Seven years ago.
No employment.
No partner listed.
“Sir?” tanong ng HR assistant sa intercom. “Do you want us to proceed with background checks?”
Gabriel hesitated. “No. Ako na bahala.”
Pinatong niya ang resume sa desk.
What if she’s the same woman?
What if… that night…
"I just want to forget everything."
Ang tagal na nun. Akala niya bangungot lang. Or some drunk blur.
Pero ngayon?
What if may iniwan pala siya sa gabing 'yon?
7 years ago, Baguio
Dahan-dahang bumukas ang mata ni Elise.
Sunlight filtered through the thin hotel curtains. The room smelled of linen, alcohol, and something bittersweet.
Wala na siya.
She sat up slowly. The other side of the bed — empty.
She didn’t even know what he was called.
She wrapped the blanket around her and stared at the window, watching the fog roll over the Baguio pine trees.
“Anong klaseng babae ang gumagawa ng ganito?” she whispered to herself.
she gave herself away.
And now…
She left the hotel without looking back.
And somewhere in the city, isang bata ang naghihintay sa nanay niya.
May mata siya na parang kay Gabriel.
At isang sikreto ma nanatili kayang sekreto?.
Navarro Holdings – Monday Morning“Team, please welcome our new Senior Consultant, Mr. Adrian Cruz.” HR’s voice echoed across the room. And just like that — boom. The entire design department suddenly had a reason to smile.Adrian walked in — tall, clean-cut, with a lazy grin that could probably sell a million-peso project by accident. Suot niya ang rolled-up sleeves, no tie, confident posture, and a voice that made half the female staff suddenly forget how to breathe.“Good morning, everyone. I’m excited to work with you,” he said, flashing dimples. Cue collective sighs.Even Elise had to admit — the guy had presence. Polite, witty, easy to talk to. In short: the complete opposite of Mr. CEO-with-a-stick-up-his-suit.“Miss Ramos, right?” Adrian asked, holding a cup of coffee as he leaned on her cubicle.“Yes po,” she said, smiling politely. “Welcome to the team.”“Salamat. Heard you’re the best designer here.”Elise blinked. “Sino may sabi niyan?”“People talk,” Adrian said, gr
Navarro Holdings – Friday Morning“Good morning, Miss Ramos.” The voice — smooth, confident, slightly smug — made Elise freeze mid-sip ng kape. Here we go again.“Sir Gabriel,” she greeted flatly without looking up from her laptop. “Or maybe I just wanted to make sure my favorite designer came in on time.”She sighed. “Sir, please don’t say things like that. People might—”“—talk?” he cut in, grinning. “Let them. They always do.”Elise gave him a glare sharp enough to cut glass. “Some of us actually came here to work, Sir.”Gabriel leaned closer, whispering, “You sound like you’re trying to convince yourself.”She turned to him, eyes narrowing. “You’re unbelievable.”“Thank you,” he said, straight-faced. “I try.”If rolling her eyes burned calories, Elise would’ve lost ten pounds by now.By lunchtime, Gabriel called for a design review. Elise came in with her team, determined to stay pro
Navarro Holdings – The Next DayElise avoided Gabriel like the plague. Since the coffee incident, the teasing, and the nonstop meetings, she’d had enough.“Miss Ramos, Sir Gabriel’s looking for you—”“Tell him I’m on break!” mabilis niyang sagot habang nakayuko sa mga sketches. Her officemates giggled.“Uy, may tampuhan ba kayo ni boss?” “Ganyan talaga, pag may chemistry!”“Walang chemistry!” she hissed, but her cheeks betrayed her — namumula.Truth was, Gabriel Navarro was driving her insane. One second he’s cold and intimidating, the next he’s teasing her like they’ve known each other for years. And the way he looked at her sometimes — parang may tinatago ring kwento sa likod ng mga mata niya.“Sir,” sabi ng secretary, “your next meeting is in Makati, 2 p.m. Traffic will be heavy.”Gabriel nodded, closing his laptop. “Alright.
“Project meeting lang ‘to.
Sofia looked down at her drawing — a picture of her, her mom… and a blank space.“For now,” Elise said softly, brushing her daughter’s hair, “ako muna ang mommy at daddy mo, ha?”Sofia nodded, pero may lungkot sa mata.Gabriel didn’t know why he was there. Unprofessional. Creepy. Stupid.Pero he couldn’t ignore the gut feeling. Then she appeared — Elise, hawak kamay ang isang malii
Gabriel stared at his phone for a few seconds before finally pressing the intercom.“HR. Tawagin niyo ulit si Elise Ramos,” he said flatly.“Sir? Akala ko po tapos na—”“Tell her there’s been a… second screening. I want to speak with her again.”Click.Lying wasn’t usually part of his professional playbook, but this wasn’t business. This was something else.He needed answers. And maybe… closure? He couldn’t get her eyes out of his head. That haunted, guilty look.Kung hindi siya 'yung babae sa Baguio… then why the hell does my gut say she is?“Ma!!!” Elise dropped her bag and crouched to hug her daughter tightly.Sofia Ramos, age six. Bibo. Madaldal. “Crush agad, anak?
