Chapter 2- The present day

Present day

"Where is she?" Legolas demanded, swiping his desk clear of everything from maps, notebooks and papers to his laptop, paper clips and pens. It had been eight years since he had last seen his mate, and the memories weren't pleasant. For weeks he had beaten her black and blue for bewitching him into becoming his queen of the moon. It had been the other way around. The witch  had tricked him into becoming the moon queen and harming his true mate. He hadn't let himself live those events down. Each day he has punished himself for betraying his mate and not believing in her.

"We've looked everywhere," Carlton replied. The alpha wasn't the only one feeling guilty. Everyone in the pack had believed Yuna was the Alpha's mate and Sarah was the witch. No one had stopped to think about how Sarah grew up In the pack and had never shown any sign of being a witch. They all had called her rude names, spread vile rumors and punished her when they got the chance.

"Not everywhere, because she's still out there," Legolas  grumbled , shifting through the papers and maps.

"Alpha, it has been five years since the witch's death, and eight years since she left. If she isn't dead then should could have move on." Carlton spoke what was on everyone's mind. He didn't want to think about it, especially since Sarah was his sister and he had a hand in hurting his sister. He had taken part in beating her for information and for fun.

"She is still out there," Legolas yelled and slammed his fist on the wall. Whimpered escaped him but because of the pain from the punch. He missed his mate so much that it hurt. It caused him physical pain thinking about not ever seeing her again.

Carlton reached out and touched Legolas's  shoulder in a comforting way. "We'll find her if she is out there."

"Alpha," a young female asked, disturbing Legolas from his paperwork signing. Lately or within the last few , he had been getting little to no sleep. Constantly searching for his mate was his main priority but that didn't mean he skipped out his pack work. During the day, he searched for his mate and at night,he found it more peaceful to blast through his emails.

"What?" He rumbled, taking a sip of the rum.

"It's Monday sir," the female said, her gaze never wavering at the carpeted floors. Legolas noticed the white apron she wore and the smell of cleaning supplies outside that door.

"And," he asked, going to re-read the email about a pack transfer.

"Your office is usually clean on Mondays, Alpha," she said quietly, afraid that if she angered the alpha she would lose her head as many had before her.

"I'll be done momentarily," Legolas grumbled. He closed the email and packed away his laptop. Since he had been Mateless for so long, having any free time was dangerous. Often his wolf wouldn't make an appearance, but when there was nothing to distract the alpha, his wolf would attempt to come forward and attempt to sniff out their mate. It had happened a few times before. Each time Legolas would wake up in an unknown part of the world after having blacked out for days.

"No problem, alpha." The girl moved out of the way as the alpha stormed out of the room laptop and charger in hand. As soon as he was down the hall, the girl  started cleaning the room without disturbing the piles of paperwork on the desk.

Legolas went to his room, deciding to work there. He stripped his work clothes and put on a pair of sweatpants. He plugged his laptop and started it up again. Although, once the mail program opened up, Legolas couldn't find any motivation to answer the emails. Mist of them were concerning wolves wanting to transfer in and out of his pack to be with their mates. His eyes began to fill up with water as he saw it.

All he wanted was to see his mate again. But he couldn't. When the witch had tricked Legolas that Sarah wasn't his mate, he had ordered all photos of his mate destroyed. Now, he sat on his bed, his laptop thrown to the side of the side table. He thought about his mate and the good times they had together. First dates. First kisses. First time together. Introduction to his parents. Shopping trip. Road trips. All he had to remember her were by eight years old, hazy memories and a bad parting.

His wolf whimpered at the back of his mind.

Legolas couldn't hold the tears back, as they rolled down his face and to the pillow. His hands were crossed over chest holding the memories he had left and his legs were tucked in. Sleep daunted him that night. Wouldn't let him close his eyes for a second without the overwhelming pain of guilt and loss. He regretted ever letting the witch into his study. He regretted believing the witch wanted to help settle the war between night creatures. Now he was paying for those mistakes. He only wished that something good would happen soon.

The next morning, the alpha was startled awake by the slamming of his door. Albus bagged in with a box of sugary cereal. "Good morning alpha!!," he joked , sauntering over the bed to take a seat.

Legolas growled at the intrusion. But Albus  didn't seem to mind as he happily munched  away on the frosted flakes. Albus had been one of Legolas high school friends growing up and didn't seem to get affected by the alpha voice. Nor did he listen to any commands he didn't want to. Which is why Albus got away with calling the alpha rabbit food.

"Come on alpha!, why so glum?" Albus asked.

Legolas growled, pulling the covers over his head and hoping that would get Albus the hint to get lost. It didn't. Nothing to get the ball of energy out of the room unless his mate called him. Perks of being a white wolf. Something very rare. White wolves weren't affected by the alpha's command since they were descendants of the moon goddess.
