Veyra and her mates decided to journey to the Oracle's temple in search of answers or anything that could help. The journey had taken a few days but finally they had gotten there.

The wind howled as if mourning, low and keening across the jagged cliffs that cradled the Oracle's Temple. Veyra stood at the base of the winding stone staircase that led up to the entrance, her cloak billowing behind her like smoke. The ancient ruins shimmered beneath the weight of magic, the air itself charged with an uneasy tension.

Her mates flanked her—Zarek close and silent, his jaw tight. Zevi's gaze scanned the darkness, his fingers twitching near the dagger at his waist. Rune's posture was rigid, every muscle taut beneath his clothes, and Lioren stood with his arms crossed, watching her with quiet protectiveness.

"This place reeks of old blood," Rune muttered, wrinkling his nose. "Are we sure about this?"

  • THE CURSE OF THE FIFTH MATE   THE BOND FRACTURES

Night draped itself like velvet over the Nightveil lands, the skies heavy with silver clouds that veiled the moon's face. A hush had settled across the pack grounds, but inside the Alpha's den, storm clouds brewed within Veyra Hale's mind. Her body was curled tightly beneath the furs, breath shallow, lashes fluttering as sleep took hold—and with it, the shadows. In her dream, the world was on fire. She stood in the middle of a blood-soaked field, the sky above her weeping crimson rain. Wolves lay strewn across the earth, broken and still—familiar forms that tore her heart asunder. Zevi's curls were matted with blood. Rune's strong hands were limp at his sides. Lioren's lips, once always smirking, hung parted with no breath between them. Zarek—gods, Zarek—was sprawled nearest her, his chest unmoving, his black hair dusted with ash and ruin."No," Veyra whispered, stumbling between their fallen forms. "No, no, please—"A presence moved behind her. She felt it before she heard it."You c

The sun had barely crested the horizon when the Nightveil Pack gates opened to welcome their returning Alpha. But there was no triumphant cheer this time, no proud stance on horseback or confident stride through the stone arches. Zarek Vorn was carried on a makeshift stretcher, weak, wrapped in moon-silver blankets that shimmered with protective runes. His chest rose and fell in shallow breaths, and his usually sharp, commanding features were dulled with exhaustion and pain.Veyra walked beside him, her palm resting gently on his as though the constant contact could tether his spirit to the mortal plane. Her silver hair was loose, falling like silk over her shoulders, her eyes hollowed with worry but set with unwavering resolve. The moment they crossed into pack territory, her voice broke the heavy silence."No one disturbs him," she said, commanding the gathered warriors, healers, and scouts. "Zarek is to be placed in the Alpha wing. No questions. No visitors. No council until I say

His eyes opened just a fraction, a glimmer of recognition flashing in their depths. For a moment, he was disoriented, his gaze distant, as if he was caught between this world and the next. But then, he focused on her, and his lips curved into a faint, painful smile."You came..." he rasped, his voice rough from the strain of his wounds."Always," she said, her voice breaking. She leaned down, pressing her lips to his in a kiss that was filled with all the things she couldn't say, all the emotions she couldn't contain. The kiss was desperate, frantic—an expression of relief, a plea, a promise all wrapped into one. It was a kiss that spoke of the bond they shared, the bond that could never be broken, not even by death itself.Zarek's arms, though weakened, found their way around her, pulling her closer, as though he needed her warmth to stave off the cold that had settled within him. The fierce, primal need for her seemed to awaken inside him. It was a bond that pulsed with the force of

Zarek's journey had taken him far from their territory. A neighboring pack had reached out for assistance, their land under threat from the ever-growing influence of the Order of the Obsidian Fang. The task was straightforward, or so it had seemed: a diplomatic meeting, an exchange of information, and a show of strength. But nothing ever went as planned in these dark times, and today was no exception. The air was thick with the scent of impending danger as Zarek and his scouts rode through the dense forests, their horses' hooves barely making a sound on the soft earth. They were close now, the edge of the neighboring pack's borders just within reach. The atmosphere had changed since they'd crossed the threshold. There was an eerie stillness in the trees, and the usual sounds of wildlife were conspicuously absent.Zarek's senses were heightened, every instinct screaming that something was wrong. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up as he rode at the head of the group. His mind, s

  • THE CURSE OF THE FIFTH MATE   FAMILY REMINISCENCE

Veyra's thoughts drifted to her mother—The hole her mother's absence had left in their lives had never quite healed. Her death had been a wound that time hadn't been able to close. The air in the room shifted, and Veyra felt her chest tighten as the memory of her mother's face, gentle and kind, swept over her."Do you think she would be proud of me?" Veyra asked quietly, looking between Elias and Jon.Elias was silent for a moment, his gaze softening as he regarded his daughter. "She would be proud of everything you've become, Veyra," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "You've carried her spirit in every step you've taken. You have her strength, her wisdom, her heart. Don't ever doubt that."Jon nodded, his eyes glimmering with the same pride that had been in Elias's. "We all see it in you, Veyra. Even when you can't see it in yourself, we do."A tear slipped down Veyra's cheek, but she quickly wiped it away, not wanting to show weakness in front of her family. "I just wish she we
