HAZEL

By the time people have finished with the clothes, I mean really finished, the presidential suite looks like a fashion battlefield after an apocalypse.

Garment bags are empty. Hangers are bare. The staff keep thanking me as I’ve personally solved their financial problems for the next decade. I lie back on the chaise lounge in a silk robe that may very well cost more than my first apartment, eyes closed, while warm oil is worked into my shoulders.

“This pressure okay?” one of the therapist

  • THE DON'S CAPTIVE MISTRESS    Racing

HAZEL Axel guided me toward the door anyway, Lisa glued to his side. His hand rested steady at my back, firm and grounding, but even as we moved, I couldn’t shake the feeling settling deep in my chest. This wasn’t just another business meeting. This wasn’t going to be what I had planned for tonight. This wasn’t going to give me the answers I wanted...the answers I had carefully built this entire evening around. If anything, it was probably going to leave me with even more questions than I already had.We stepped outside, and there it was, a sleek, black sports car waiting under the dimming light. The window of another car rolled down, and there were Cassio and Cara, completely lost in each other, making out like nothing else in the world existed. No shame. No hesitation. Just them, tangled together, careless and loud in their affection. I couldn’t help the small breath that escaped me.Axel didn’t say anything or seem bothered. He simply moved us toward his car and opened the passe

  • THE DON'S CAPTIVE MISTRESS    Holding On

HAZEL Axel’s brother Cassio, finally glanced at me, then back at Axel, then at Lisa, who was still holding onto him, and smirked.“You’re going to let her hold onto you all night?” he asked, his tone teasing.Axel didn’t answer. Didn’t react. Cassio’s gaze shifted back to me now, fully, deliberately, like he wanted everyone in the room to understand exactly what he was doing before he spoke again.“Are you going to introduce her?” he asked, the teasing still there, but now edged with something sharper. Something intentional. That was when Axel’s eyes flicked back to me, and I swear I could almost see the exact moment it clicked in his head..... Hazel is here.Just like that, the air shifted. Axel’s gaze found mine and held it. Something unreadable passed through his expression before he gently removed Lisa’s hand from his arm. She frowned slightly, but she didn’t argue, stepping back just enough, though not far enough to really let go of her place beside him. Then Axel turned fully t

  • THE DON'S CAPTIVE MISTRESS    The Background

HAZEL The first woman to walk inside… was beautiful. Blonde hair, blue eyes, flawless in a way that didn’t feel real. She looked like she had stepped out of a magazine—no, more than that. Like she belonged on a runway, under flashing lights and cameras. An angel. That was the only word that came to mind. And the way she walked.... God. There was confidence in every step. Control. Power. Like the room belonged to her the second she entered it. Even on six-inch heels, she moved effortlessly, owning every inch of space she crossed. For a moment, I just stood there, watching her. Completely, unexpectedly… mesmerised. I was so focused on the first woman, the blonde, the one who seemed to command the room without even trying, that I didn’t notice the second one at all.Not until she moved. She rushed past me in a blur and went straight for Axel, practically throwing herself at him. That’s when my attention finally snapped to her.She was beautiful too. Dark hair, long and flowing all the

  • THE DON'S CAPTIVE MISTRESS    A Brother

HAZEL Angela assured me that I was ready and good to go, so I walked down the stairs at 6:55. I didn’t want to be late. I didn’t want to keep Axel waiting. And, if I was being honest, I wanted a few minutes to myself before I saw him, to steady my thoughts, to remember everything I had planned. But the moment I stepped onto the staircase, I realised he was already there.... He was standing at the bottom, one hand in his pocket, the other holding his phone, his attention fixed on the screen. For a second, I paused, watching him without him noticing me. He looked composed, calm, like he always did. Like nothing ever really touched him. And for a brief, foolish moment, I let myself think… he’s waiting for me.I decided to believe it. The thought settled in my chest just as I took another step down. The sound must have carried, because his head lifted. Our eyes met. And then he saw me. Not just a glance. Not just acknowledgement.... He saw me.Something in his expression shifted, subtle

  • THE DON'S CAPTIVE MISTRESS    The Girl In The Mirror

HAZEL Angela was already there when I arrived, and the moment she saw me, she smiled slightly and said, “Someone must be hungry today.”I paused, then gave a small, uncertain nod. “Yeah.... I am.”She served me food without asking for anything else. I was the only one at the table as always during lunch. The silence stretched around me as I ate, my thoughts louder than anything else in the room. Amanda’s face kept flashing in my mind, her voice, the fear in her eyes. Every bite felt automatic, like I wasn’t really there, like I was somewhere else entirely. When I finished, I didn’t leave immediately. Instead, I waited And when Angela came back in, I looked up at her and, for the first time, asked, “Would you help me get ready for tonight?”She stopped immediately giving me all her attention.“Get ready for what?” she asked.“I’m going out with Axel tonight and I want to look great,” I said, not even trying to hide the excitement in my voice. She didn’t respond immediately. Instead

  • THE DON'S CAPTIVE MISTRESS    This Was Good

HAZEL After Nico left, sitting there didn’t feel good anymore. I hadn’t gotten anything from him except Amanda’s brother’s name, and sitting here only reminded me of Amanda, of the moments we would steal just to talk and when she would bring me something outside to eat. And now she was in trouble, and I couldn’t even help her.By now, I was used to feeling helpless when it came to myself. But being helpless when it came to someone else… that was new. And it didn’t sit right with me at all. I stood up and decided to go back inside. Maybe I would finally find the courage to find Axel and ask him about Amanda.A few minutes later, I was already walking through the hallways of the mansion, no direction in mind, just moving, just thinking, hoping to find someone, anyone who could give me something..... And then I bumped into him.The one person I really did not want to meet right now. Not like this. Not when I wasn’t ready. I collided into him, and his hands came up instantly, gripping m

HAZELI calculate where I could sit.Do I go and sit beside Kat?Do I sit on Axel’s other side?If I sit beside Kat, she’ll think she won. That I am her second, beneath her .If I sit on Axel’s other side, it will look like I’m stepping into some twisted territory, like I’m claiming something, like

  • THE DON'S CAPTIVE MISTRESS    The Boss

HAZELI can’t take it.“Axel,” I say, my voice too loud in the room. “I am not in the mafia. This has nothing to do with me. I don’t want to be anyone’s boss. I don’t want anything to do with anyone.”My chest tightens, panic pressing into my ribs. I look at Axel directly.“Actually, if you wanted

HAZELI didn’t sleep. Not even a little.I spent the night tossing, turning, and flipping my pillow over and over like that would change anything... It didn’t. The thoughts didn’t stop, the headache didn’t stop, and the tightness in my chest didn’t stop. When morning finally came, it felt like I ha

HAZELAxel stops. The room seems to fall quieter, stiller, and colder. He doesn’t turn right away. He just stands there, unmoving.
