Cassandra stood frozen in the doorway of the café.

The man sitting beside Adrian had her eyes. Her nose. Her chin. He was older—gray streaked through his dark hair, lines etched around his eyes—but the resemblance was unmistakable. It was like looking into a mirror that showed her future.

"Cassandra," Adrian said softly, rising from his chair. "This is Daniel. Your father."

Her father.

The word felt foreign. Wrong. She'd spent her whole life believing her father was dead—a man she'd never known, a loss she'd mourned without ever understanding. And now here he was. Alive. Real. Sitting across from her like a ghost made flesh.

She didn't move.

Daniel stood slowly, his hands clasped in front of him. His eyes—her eyes—were filled with something she couldn't name. Regret. Longing. Love. It was too much. It was everything.

"I know this is a shock," he said, his voice quiet, careful. "I know you have questions. I'll answer all of them. But first—" He paused. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

---

Cassandra sat down.

Her legs wouldn't hold her anymore. She sank into the chair across from Daniel, her hands trembling in her lap. Adrian sat beside her, his presence a quiet anchor.

"I didn't know," Daniel said. "About you. Grace never told me."

Cassandra's throat tightened. "Why?"

"We were young. We were in love." He looked down at his hands. "But Grace was already tangled in something dangerous. She pushed me away to protect me. She said it was the only way to keep me safe."

"She was pregnant with me."

"I didn't know." His voice cracked. "I found out five years ago. Adrian found me. He told me everything—about you, about Grace, about what happened."

Cassandra looked at Adrian. "You knew? All this time?"

Adrian nodded, his expression pained. "I was trying to protect you. I didn't know if Daniel could be trusted. I didn't know if he was involved in what happened to Grace."

"I wasn't involved." Daniel's voice was fierce. "I would never have hurt her. I loved her."

---

They talked for hours.

Daniel told her about Grace—how they'd met, how they'd fallen in love, how she'd pushed him away. He told her about the years he'd spent searching for answers, the nights he'd lain awake wondering if he had a child somewhere in the world.

"I thought about you every day," he said. "Even before I knew you existed. I felt like something was missing. A piece of me that I couldn't find."

Cassandra's eyes burned with tears. "I felt it too."

Daniel reached across the table, his hand stopping just short of hers. "I'm not asking for forgiveness. I'm not asking for anything. I just—I want to know you. If you'll let me."

Cassandra stared at his hand. The hand that shared her blood. The hand of a stranger. The hand of her father.

"I need time," she whispered.

Daniel nodded, pulling back. "Take all the time you need. I'll be here."

---

Cassandra returned to the safe house hours later.

Dante was already there, waiting. He took one look at her face and crossed the room, pulling her into his arms.

"What happened?"

She told him. About Daniel. About her father. About the truth she'd been searching for her whole life.

Dante held her as she cried. He didn't tell her what to do. He didn't offer solutions. He just held her, his arms wrapped around her, his lips pressed to her hair.

"I don't know what to feel," she whispered. "I'm angry. I'm relieved. I'm terrified. I'm hopeful. It's too much."

"It's not too much." His voice was soft. "You're allowed to feel all of it."

She pulled back, looking up at him. "What if he's lying? What if he's working with Marcus Kane?"

"Then we'll find out. We'll investigate. We'll do what we always do." He cupped her face. "But you don't have to decide anything tonight. You don't have to figure it all out right now."

She leaned into his touch. "Thank you."

"Always."

---

Meanwhile, Evan and Dante had a conversation of their own.

They sat in the study, the door closed, the world shut out. Evan's arm was still in a sling, but his eyes were sharp, alert.

"I've been thinking," Evan said. "About the traitor. About what Adrian told you."

Dante's jaw tightened. "What about it?"

"Vincent isn't the only one. There's someone else. Someone closer." Evan leaned forward. "I've been noticing things. Strange things. People coming and going. Phone calls in the middle of the night. I didn't want to believe it, but—"

"But what?"

"I think it's someone in the household. Someone we trust."

Dante was silent for a long moment. He'd been betrayed by so many people—his father, his mother, Isabella. He didn't know who to trust anymore.

"You can trust me," Evan said quietly. "I'm your brother."

Dante looked at him. For the first time in years, he saw Evan not as a burden or a screw-up, but as an ally. An equal.

"I know," he said.

---

That night, Cassandra's phone rang.

It was Daniel. His voice was urgent, tense.

"Cassandra. You need to know something. About Marcus Kane. About the night your mother died."

Her blood ran cold. "What?"

"I was there. I saw what happened." He paused, his breath shaky. "It wasn't Vincent who killed her. It was someone else. Someone you know."
